Forums » How to Podcast » Itunes RSS wont update?

Reply

Hey, I created my rss for www.fightclubradio.com awhile ago when Episode 1 came out. However, it didn't have album art or an author. So after submitting, I fixed the rss, uploaded and replaced the old one. However, the changes aren't updated in iTunes. Isn't it supposed to update automatically with the RSS feed provided? Thanks,

Z

Zea,

I looked at your RSS feed and it does not have any iTunes tags in it. I think iTunes needs the iTunes specific tags to get images etc.

You can see examples of what the iTunes RSS tags look like at

Ok thanks. I think you were looking at my site's rss feed.

Here is the rss submitted with iTunes.

I do have the correct iTunes tags, but the author and image isn't showing up within iTunes. What's wrong?

What's the URL of the RSS feed you gave to iTunes?

In reply to guest

http://www.fightclubradio.com/FightClubRadioPodcast.xml

When you open it up in a browser there is an error I believe but you can still view >source, thanks.

Try replacing
<rss version="2.0">
with
<?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?>

<rss xmlns&#58;itunes="http&#58;//www.itunes.com/dtds/podcast-1.0.dtd" version="2.0">
That will fix the error when opening up in a browser and make the feed a valid feed. It may fix the itunes problem too. If it does not there must be some problem on Apple's side of reading your rss.

Alrite, I switched that, but you still get an error reading it in a web browser.

I added the tag in this one http://www.wiznetweb.com/fcradio/fightclubradiopodcast.xml

to redirect to my new site where it is located here:

http://www.fightclubradio.com/FightClubRadioPodcast.xml

They are both changed to how you suggested, but still the problem is there. Thanks for helping,

Zea

You have a few unexpected dashes (-) in your feed.

check this out to find them

http://feedvalidator.org/check.cgi?url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.fightclubradio.com%2FFightClubRadioPodcast.xml+

Also try updating you pubdate - tunes may be waiting for that to change.

Alrite, well I fixed that. Thanks a lot for your help, and you can now browse the feed in a web browser, however, the album art still hasnt shown up in iTunes yet. Should this take a while? Thanks a lot for your help though up to this point.

I took a look in iTunes and the feed they have for you is
http://www.fightclubradio.com/FightClubRadioPodcast.xml

So they got the redirect, but when I pinged iTunes to update your feed I get a weird error message.

https://phobos.apple.com/WebObjects/MZFinance.woa/wa/pingPodcast?feedURL=http://http://www.fightclubradio.com/FightClubRadioPodcast.xml

You may want to try taking out all the white space in your feed and try pinging iTunes again to see if they give you the same error message. Sometimes line breaks and spaces can cause problems.

iTunes should be checking your feed every day, but the pingPodcast above should check the feed when its pinged.

If you can't get the pinging to work and they don't update within a day you should go to your site listing in iTunes and report a concern. I have seen other podcasters with valid feeds not getting picked up for reasons on Apple's side. I think it can take a while - very frustrating :(

Ok, it did take a while, and it is good that they got the redirect. I searched for "Fight Club Radio" within iTunes, and it came up, with the author, and album art all working fine. Also, I had to re-create the ping which is this now:

http://phobos.apple.com/WebObjects/MZStore.woa/wa/viewPodcast?id=119736170&s=143441

I updated that on fightclubradio.com, and everything is working fine now. Thanks a lot for your help Alex, I appreciate it.
