Dear all,

I am writing to inquire about how to authenticate the listener.

If you would like to protect nf01.mp3 (still, you would like to edit an RSS file so that anybody can know nf01.mp3 is now available), what would you do?

The point is, the client software such as iTunes cannot know which file is free and which is not.

I would like to know how to make the clinent software react to the 401 HTTP code (unautorized) adequately.

If you are familiar with a good solution, please do let me know in detail.

I hope this is all clear.

Thank you very much for your attention.

Yours faithfully,

You can make your RSS feed password protected and secure, check out this post for a discussion on private RSS

Another option is to post the RSS in the open - then use htaccess to password protect the mp3. That way anyone would know if there was a new mp3, but only those authorized would be able to get at the file. I don't think iTunes or clients would be able to do this automatically.

Hope this helps
