Podcasting and the internet is the public taking radio back from the conglomerates.
Recent case in point: The major stations were planning to not put the new Dixie Chicks single into their rotation, but the download numbers and pre-release orders for the album forced them to acknowledge that this band was coming back whether they were ready for it or not.
Don't get too excited yet, but podcasting and blogs are slowly allowing us to reshape the electoral process, too.

Pod casting is the way by which publishers create audio content, and post it to a web server, typically in MP3 format.

A video podcast is a television-like show that is distributed on the Internet and available for download to portable MP3 players capable of playing videos. Video podcasts are similar to audio podcasts -- many are scripted serial shows that have a theme and an audience. You don't have to have a television studio to create a video podcast, all you need is a camera, a show idea and a computer.
