As I said before, I am a new podcaster and I am trying to get it out there. I submitted my feed, made a promo, and signed up for numberous forums trying to get my show out, but with little luck.
Are there any other ways to promote podcasts? |

Promoting is the same if you are promoting a podcast or trying to sell life insurance. You need a good product and then you need to tell everyone you know about it as well as you can and as much as you can.
My observation is that the people who do the best job of promoting their shows do it well and are relentless about the producing new shows and promoting them. The first thing I would do if I were you would be to produce quality shows on a regular basis. Daily is better than weekly, 2x per week is better than 1 per week etc. Also, post on the forums AND provide links to your site, your show and the show in the directories. I would also set up an email list from the site to promote via email announcements for people who sign up. Start telling your friends and family. Send out your mp3s to everyone you know and ask them to send it on. If you have some money to spend you can advertise via Google using adwords. They let you target sites that you want like Digital Podcast. Some other sites will also take direct advertising spend from you. The other thing to do is contact other podcasters. Interview them. Ask to be on their show. Ask them to play your promos. Make friends and get them to help you. Go to the podcast expo in September and make friends to get the word out. The options for promoting a good podcast are limited only by your imagination.

Thanks!
I'm trying everything I can to get this out. And I know this is going to sound a bit stupid, but when should I start heavily advertising?

I don't think there's any right time to start heavily advertising.
Come up with a marketing/advertising plan and just get started. The trick will be balancing your marketing efforts while still producing quality content.

The key to effective online Internet advertising is to have a inclusive, integrated plan that focuses on where your prospects can be tapped online. It's completely not enough to concentrate your efforts on just one Internet online advertising strategy - that's like putting all your eggs in one basket. An active approach would be to leverage your online Internet advertising by various means best suited to your goals.
