The Sarah Love brand became mainstream knowledge the world over when she began her weekly BBC Radio 1Xtra broadcasts and on screen presenting for MTV Base. She used these platforms as a vehicle for true Hip Hop with no prejudice to which country it is recorded in, and endeared her a wider audience and opened up opportunities to once again work with old friends and family. From the Deal Real Records (original Deal Real!!) and Kung Fu eras of British Hip Hop and further, she opened up a path to work as a sort of special envoy for Hip Hop worldwide and maintains good relationships with the legends and stalwarts of the American scene from Grandmaster Flash to Souls Of Mischief to The Roots, KRS One, Raekwon of the Wu-Tang Clan and many more. Many female DJs have fallen off or never even got noticed in the mans world that is DJing, but Sarah has a substance and technical ability high above many men on the 1′s and 2′s, and does what she does without having to bark on about not just being a pretty face. This is why she's garnered a respect throughout the worldwide Hip Hop community that has her jet-setting around the planet.

 SOUL OF SYDNEY 147: Brazilian Beats & Breaks by DJ MK-1 | Dec 2013 | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 00:58:31

A Classic mix from the archives, this mix was so popular overseas before our old soundcloud got deleted. Our good friend DJ MK-1 drop[ed this killer mix tape just before Christmas 2013 digging deep in beautiful sounds of BRAZILIAN BEATS & BREAKS. This mix is a true testimony to this mans versatility as a DJ and Beat Digger. MK-1 unearths some super rare and super dope Brazilian cuts on this mix. ABOUT MK-1 / Born John Khilla in Sydney 1979, MK-1 aka Mista Killa began DJing at the age of 15 with the aid of mentor and friend, New York’s legendary DJ Steve Dee (founder of the X-men and inventor of the funk a.k.a beat juggling). By the age of 18 MK-1 had developed his own distinct style of DJing, shunning the many cultural clichés of the Hip-Hop scene. With sets geared more towards a showcase celebrating music past to present, Mista Killa is certainly a rare breed of current DJ's who prides himself in rocking good music - PERIOD. From rocking plenty of the world's most famous venues, to being one of the exclusive DJ's for the 2000 Olympics, to releasing a myriad of mind-blowing mixtapes and singles with the music industry's finest. The following phrase, spoken urgently, would set the next three years in motion. “Hey, I’ve got to go rehearse for a dance showcase, cover the booth for the next hour and a half.” Since then he has opened for the prestigious Dancekool Volume annual hiphop festival/competition alongside such notaries as DJ Matt Fernandez and DJ Naiki and has proven himself capable of supplying the backbone for dance battles of all styles in Sydney. Among those Seb One has had the honour of playing for include notable hiphop personalities Buddha Stretch and Loose Joint (Elite Force, NYC), B-Boy Y-not (Rock Steady Crew, NYC) B-Boy Physicx (Rivers Crew, Korea), Kumari Suraj (The Waackers) and Mamson (Wanted Posse, France). Bridging his love of music and food he further supplied the beats section of the Good Food Month "Bagels, Beer and Beats,” at Helm Bar, an event jointly held by Helm Bar and Brooklyn Boy Bagels. More recently Seb One partnered with Red Bull to provide the VIP foyer pre-show entertainment for the Sydney leg of the Rihanna tour. Among his other pursuits he is a semi-active photojournalist and acts as Dancekool Studio’s Systems Technician. Acknowledging the need for a strong foundation in today’s budding talent and in order to give back to the community he grew from, he also assists DJ Naiki in a DJ course/workshop held at Dancekool premises. Seb One currently reps the 319 as well as his personal philosophy, >1 (greater than). Links: www.greaterthanwon.com www.mixcrate.com/greaterthan1. www.facebook.com/greaterthanwon

SOUL OF SYDNEY 140: Tonic Lounge Friday FUNK, DISCO & HOUSE Mix by DJ Frenzie (2010 | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 00:35:18

SOUL OF SYDNEY RADIO #140: DJ FRENZIE 'Tonic Lounge' Friday Mixtape (2000), a promo mix for the infamous house of funk in Kings Cross known as TONIC LOUNGE. Style: Disco, Funk & House Goodness. Time: 35 Minutes About The Mix: Our good mate DJ Frenzie dropped this mix tape a around 2010 for the infamous soul and funk joint TONIC LOUNGE. The club has been closed but they were the go to late night music joint for years in Sydney hosting just about every real DJ & specialist music night around. About Shan Frenzie / Frenzie has been around the block more than a few times. He's got well over twenty years of experience behind him, a record collection that will make any deejay envious, and a concrete rep as one of Australia’s most trusted party rockers. Taking inspiration from when DJ's used to play for no less than 6 hours straight and transition between styles: Original Soul & Funk 45's - check. Deep House, Disco & Boogie - check. Hip Hop, R&B, Breaks & Beats - check. Party anthems and forgotten classics - check. Frenzie has got you covered. His Groove Therapy radio show (now in its eleventh year) has been broadcasting weekly on 2SER FM every Friday lunchtime and has become an essential listen to all musically savvy Sydney-siders, while the podcast of the show has garnered a huge loyal fan base in all corners of the globe. A veteran touring DJ of the Australian east coast, Frenzie also recently rocked dance floors in San Francisco and New York - and has had support billing alongside a who’s who of DJ royalty. Infact, pioneering deejay Grandmaster Flash requested Frenzie as his official support DJ for his most recent 2013 Sydney tour (four shows in total) - and only months earlier, Frenzie could be seen cutting it up on the turntables on stage with New Yorks Hip Hop legends The Ultramagnetic MC’s. ...and it’s no small wonder - Frenzie definitely has the skills to pay the bills. In 2012 he placed second in the New South Wales heats of the DMC, the most prestigious DJ competition in the world (He’s last foray into battle deejaying was almost twelve years earlier). But can he rock a party? Frenzie has been dropping memorable sets for years. Whether it be a one hour power mix or an all night marathon set behind the turntables, Frenzie has plenty of experience reading the crowd and always drops an entertaining set - custom built from carefully considered quality jams and a dash of turntable trickery. Not only can Frenzie mix a record, he has definitely earned his stripes as the number one chief party rocker.  SOUL OF SYDNEY 129: Paris Groovescooter at SOUL OF SYDNEY 2SER FUNKDRAISER | OCT 2013 | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 00:51:40

Sydney Crate Digger, Label Owner, Journalist & Radio host PARIS GROOVESCOOTER laying it down live at SOUL OF SYDNEY 'Funk Fundraiser' Special 2013, closing party for 2SER Radiothon. Recorded: 3-4pm Sunday Oct 27 DJ: Paris Groovescooter (Jumping The Gap - 2ser, Groove Scooter) Music: Day Time Disco Vibes & Old School Electro Funk. Here is another sweet treat from last Sunday's 2ser fundrasier jam, this one is the 3-4pm afternoon disco and electro funk set throwdown by 2SER's own Paris Groovescooter. About Groove Scooter Records: Groovescooter is an Australian record label incorporating the da dAdA imprint, a music production house and a film sync service that began in 1997, growing out of a radio show. Apart from hosting two weekly radio shows these days - those behind the label also produce events like the recurring music-meets-visual art exhibition, ArtGroupie and DJ regularly including a couple of Sydney residencies. About Jumping The Gap (2ser) We dig music with depth and soul, and usually music that grooves, whether Afrobeat, forgotten soundtracks, boogaloo, soul, free-jazz, funk, Latin, dub, reggae, psych, post-rock, downbeat, freaky disco... you get the idea. JUMPING THE GAP 2SER 107.3FM Sydney Wednesdays Noon - 2pm (AU EST) Streams: 2ser.com A mixed plunge into psych-funk, soul, disco, reggae, soundtracks, free-jazz & beyond, hosted by Paris from Groovescooter Records. Sometimes there's a theme or a guest. Shows can dive headlong into Brazilian, Turkish or Afrobeat specials, play word association, stretch the bungee to slap artists/genres face-to-face, or jump for joy honoring a fave producer or label. Whether it's old, new or yet-to-be released, a classic, demo or an exclusive gap-jumping edit, tunes are sourced from around the globe. We may leap about, teeter close to the edge or nosedive into the blue beyond sometimes, but there's always a guide-rope (admittedly frayed & tenuous) providing some connection with 'groove'.
