Antisocial Personality Disorder, sometimes called Sociopathy, is a mental condition in which a person consistently shows no regard for right and wrong and ignores the rights and feelings of others. People with antisocial personality disorder tend to antagonize, manipulate or treat others harshly or with callous indifference.
What he calls his “support network” is often so wildly misinformed and prejudiced in his favor that it functions only to enable him to continue abusing his partner and not feel too bad about it– and that’s just the way he likes it.
An individual who is able to engage in cruelty to animals appears to have no conscience and thus no remorse for his or her behavior. The act of cruelty to animals results from an apparent need for power and control, and this need is accompanied by a lack of empathy. Animals are targeted, especially helpless and defenseless ones, because the perpetrator does not recognize or care that they have feelings and can experience not just physical pain but also emotional pain.
Domestic abuse is a slow and methodical process of breaking a woman’s spirit. Tearing down her self-esteem, decision making, relationships, and just about every other aspect of her independence from her abusive partner. The goal of domestic violence is surprisingly not to only to hurt women, but to control them. Abusive behavior isn’t a symptom of anger - it is a belief system that women are less than.
