Building a legacy that will globally impact others with Angela Marshall | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 01:06:37

Stuck between two worlds, I didn’t have the confidence to dare to be different. I was a counterfeit everything to everyone but an authentic nothing to myself. When you’re not sure who you are, folks and society will gladly attempt to turn you into what they want you to be. I was many things for many people but neglected myself. It was a miserable and disconnected period but It taught me later to live my inner truth instead of living an outer lie for others. From NFL wife to entrepreneur life is frustrating and challenging BUT I know it was needed for growth. So, while I’m not in love with the process, I adore it because it has stretched me in faith, failures, and focus. I thought I would always work to build dreams for others. I didn’t really start thinking about my own company, being an author or speaker until I published my first book in 2016. I live by the motto- “Success is a dish served only to the bold.” Submitting my resignation was a time of ambition and anxiety. I thought about the decrease in money, I weighed the cost of start-up for my vision and I considered the time and effort required for my business to be successful. With all those “what-ifs” attempting to hinder me, I boldly badged out of the exit side automated corporate doors. I walked exactly 104 steps to my vehicle with a close friend and co-worker that repeatedly told me, “don’t look back,” and I officially became an entrepreneur. Rejection, not-so-nice reactions, and resistance are stumbling blocks that you must learn how to turn into stepping stones along the entrepreneur brick road. Over time, I’ve trained my brain to not take the answer “no” personally or professionally. I’ve also stopped waiting on others to give me the tools and materials to build doors of opportunity that I should be constructing myself. I share my story, struggles, strengths, and successes with the world after being asked about marriage and life with a celebrity professional athlete by so many people across the globe. It was difficult hearing their “assessment” for me in the supposed life of the rich and famous. My life is building a legacy that will globally impact others to stretch, evolve and embrace their reflection. I empower people to live vicariously through themselves!  Normalizing mental health, healing from substance abuse and addiction with Jay Shifman | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 01:16:41

Jay Shifman is an open book. A vulnerable storyteller and stigma-destroying speaker, podcaster, and event host, Jay’s story of struggle is familiar to the millions of people the world over who also struggle with issues of mental health, substance misuse, and addiction. Now in long-term recovery, it is Jay’s mission to encourage difficult conversations and honest education concerning these and similar struggles. Jay founded his company, Choose Your Struggle, in 2015 with two distinct goals; ending stigma and ensuring that those who struggle receive the help they deserve. A fervent believer in radical honesty and the simple fact that neither struggle nor recovery should be treated as a one-size-fits-all experience, Jay uses his voice, and his platforms to educate, entertain, and empower. Looking to make these conversations even more accessible, Jay launched the Choose Your Struggle podcast in early 2020. In a short amount of time, Choose Your Struggle is already in the top .2% of worldwide listenership and has cracked numerous top lists and venerable rankings. The show combines vulnerable storytelling and expert education around the topics of mental health, substance misuse and recovery, and drug use and policy. Past guests have included former congress member Katie Hill, celebrated authors John Hudak and Gregg Clunis, and advocates Tessa Xuan, Elizabeth Mckissick, and Michelle Kuei. An accomplished orator in his own right, Jay has numerous speaking and storytelling events to his name. He prides himself on his practiced approach of drawing in the listener while discussing hard topics in a way that puts a human face on struggles that we often discuss in a dehumanizing way. Not content with only one platform, in 2021 Jay began producing two narrative event series, Rock Bottom Storytellers and A Day in the Life, which give voice to shared experiences, normalize discussing periods of struggle, and seek to build a community around our shared cultural love of a good story! Both events are currently virtual with the hope that in a post-covid world they can be produced for a stage near you! Holding a BA in Psychology from Northern Kentucky University and with over a decade of lived and professional experience in the field, Jay has put in numerous hours of independent learning acquiring certifications in mental health, substance misuse and addiction, and drug policy. He lives in Philadelphia with his wife, Lauren, and their dog, Nell. For more information, visit:http://www.jayshifman.com ( www.jayshifman.com) or find him on your favorite social media platform.  Teen Pregnancies, Abortion, Shame, Guilt & Abusive Relationships to Mindset & Business Coach | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 01:12:22

Before the age of 17, I was faced with 3 pregnancies, 2 ended in abortion. These painful choices devastated me and put me in a state of rage. Angry and bitter, I despised everything. Fearful and full of shame and guilt I knew I had to get away from this narcissistic, gaslighting man, or I would end up destitute. Hiding behind shame and guilt, I kept my secret hidden and believed I deserved perpetual punishment. For over 3 decades I struggled with unforgiveness and turned to unhealthy coping mechanisms. Counseling didn’t get to the root cause-I buried myself in my career and side gig. Despite my angry outbursts, I advanced and was successful in my job and church-my heart was hurting so I drank, ate, and became addicted to 0% credit cards, until one day I had enough. I overcame the fear, removed the blocks and the walls came tumbling down.  Diet, weight loss, and healing emotional eating with Cassie Christopher, MS RD CD | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 01:14:42

-Grad school for nutrition, type A personality, super stressed--> emotional eating to cope resulted in feeling out of control around food, weight gain, no energy, etc. -Became a Registered Dietitian and nothing I had learned seemed to help. If anything diets and the belief that food is medicine were making it worse. -Fast forward several years, new Mom, stressful time, using food to cope again. Realized I felt unworthy of self-care because I believed they were more worthy of care. Worked on autoimmune issues with Naturopath, Intensive therapy... stopped eating and began helping other people with overeating and weight loss, and they were successful. -Then the pandemic happened. I would read at the dinner table with my family, I realized books and other acceptable "vices" were my new food for coping. I was using other things to numb rather than being present in my life. -Through intense self-development, I realized I still wasn't feeling my feelings, I started practicing getting present to my feelings. Part of this journey was letting go of old beliefs that my desires and feelings were suspect at best and likely sinful. I realized I was looking for pleasure from food/escape, rather than from identifying and pursuing things I enjoy. -I started to feel very self-conscious about my body feeling like I needed to look like an "after" photo if I was going to help people lose weight. My heart was breaking over my clients and prospects using words like "disgust" and feeling like they hated mirrors when they thought about their bodies. I began redefining beauty for myself and studying how to improve body image. -Many women believe weight loss will help them feel comfortable in their own skin when in reality weight loss helps them fit in with cultural (and patriarchal) beauty norms. My eyes were opened to how these cultural norms stop women from living the lives they were meant to live and keep them small. -I began implementing techniques to help my clients stay in the present with their feelings, body acceptance work, and less of a focus on weight loss so women can feel in control around food and comfortable in their own skin. Focusing on self-care in 4 key areas.  Safe At Home, Safe At Work, Safe At School with Sabrina Osso | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 01:00:27

I come from violence; my father beat my mother on a regular basis. Eventually, I moved out and fulfilled my dream of becoming a dancer. I created my 1-woman show, “Home Sweet Home?”. I play different women being abused and then she goes to her good place, that’s where the dancing comes in but then she is pulled back into the terror of being abused once again. The show ends very strong, very empowering. Extensive research was done for the show and I couldn’t believe the alarming statistics. I decided to make this into a business and Osso Safe was born. I wanted to provide products and services that can really positively impact people's lives, whether they are going through violence or not. My personal and professional experience with the subject allows me to bring a unique and holistic approach by combining education and technology to promote safety and prevent violence in the workplace, schools, and in particular, in places of residence. Since I am also a professional dancer/teacher, I use my performance abilities to educate on the subject. A struggle is that we absolutely cannot solve the magnitude of this problem by treating this as a charity, as a nonprofit. Victims neither need pity nor handouts. They need solutions, they need resolution, which is why we focus on 3 markets: schools, workplaces, and residences. Our approach is indeed a practice and I am bridging the real estate industry with Osso Safe. In doing so, this will change the face of residency, where safety/nonviolence will become a required standard condition of residency. Period. This is good for business, good for residency. Abuse should not be a part of anyone’s residency, ever. Just Because You Are A Parent, It Doesn’t Give You The Right To Abuse Your Child. The Osso Safe approach to diminishing and preventing home violence in schools, workplaces, and properties, focuses on the fact that this is indeed a practice. There is a direct connection between violence and pornography. The “legal” system makes horrible matters even worse, in that, it does what is in the worst interest of the abused child versus what is in the best interest of the abused child. An example of what constitutes a good relationship is to allow your kids to vent when they are upset and then speak to them as calmly as possible; this is both healing for the child and the parent.  Taking responsibility for her own rage to begin the healing journey as a Mom - with Natalie Hixson | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 01:05:07

Anger, Shame, Tantrums, and Blame To Healing and Becoming A Life Coach with Natalie Hixson The tantrum was bad – really bad. The rage came and went. What was the little one to do? She was absolutely helpless. And here is why… The tantrum wasn’t coming from her. It was coming from her mama! The mama felt stuck dragging a ball and chain of rage. She blamed God, her parents, the world around her – even blamed her child - never seeing the source of rage was from within. Mama took her kiddo to a therapist thinking if the child had help then the anger would go away. The wise woman looked at the mom and said, “My dear, the child is normal for her age. It’s YOU who needs help.” The mother was in shock – but it was exactly what she needed to hear. It was then that I, the mom, realized I could take responsibility for my own rage and begin the healing journey – not only for me but for my child. I was the one who needed to overcome the anger and rage. It was not a simple journey but was well worth everything I put into it! I am now that Mom I wanted to be – having fun being a loving, guiding parent who takes joy in being with my kids and husband! I now coach discouraged, burnt-out Christian Moms, helping them overcome destructive anger so they enjoy being a wife and mom. Natalie Hixson is a wife, mother, auntie, and certified professional life coach who helps discouraged Christian moms overcome destructive anger and burnout.  Surviving incest and rape & understanding the impacts childhood has on adult behaviors. | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 01:13:40

First interview November 12, 2019: https://youtu.be/Rb3Tcg3YMFA In our first interview, we discussed Nancy’s physical, emotional and sexual abuse, being put in foster care, the continuing abuse, her father's death when she was 28. She’s been an advocate for abused children and intellectually challenged adults, has fostered and adopted children, and served on the board of two related non-profits. Professionally, she has over 30 years of leadership experience in the financial services industry across numerous disciplines, with a passion for empowering individuals in the workplace. She wants to champion others to say “I am an incest survivor” without shame, guilt, or fear of repercussions, and to open a dialogue that removes the societal taboo of acknowledging and discussing incest. Just as we rush to put out a house fire and support the survivors with love, compassion, and help, Nancy dreams that one day we will rush without judgment to extinguish the fire of incest. A strong voice for those shamed to silence and the long-term impacts of child sexual abuse, Nancy hosts the Tail of the Bell podcast available on most podcast platforms. Each episode focuses on a specific topic interpreted through a featured incest survivor’s personal story and, where needed, further explored by experts. A trained life coach, Nancy also helps incest survivors help themselves through Tail of the Bell, Inc's programs. TAIL OF THE BELL: We provide unique coaching programs for adult survivors of child sexual abuse, particularly emphasizing parent-child incest, to help them thrive in their personal, communal, and professional spaces. We incorporate a holistic approach to supporting these individuals while raising community awareness; by educating employers on ways to assist survivors, by enabling survivors to empower one another in a safe place, by providing a survivor’s voice through motivational talks at various engagements, and by facilitating Darkness to Light’s Stewards of Children training. What’s behind our name? A bell curve is often used to describe the occurrence of a wide variety of real-world human characteristic data, such as a person’s height or IQ, where most numbers are concentrated around an average, there’s an equal likelihood of highs and lows, and extreme occurrences are rarer. Here, the bell curve is used to represent the distribution of normal life experiences. Most people will have experiences that fall within a tight range around the average such as riding a bike for the first time, marriage, graduation, etc. As you move further away from the center, where the average life occurrences reside, toward the graphical ends you will see extreme outliers. On the right side, are those that have achieved rare, ever-lasting bliss. On the left side, are those that have experienced extreme tragedy and loss. These individual outliers when grouped together, become the “tail”. Tail of the Bell works with individuals whose personal histories are at the extreme left end of a life experiences bell curve to empower them to move beyond their beginnings, stand big, connect with their peers, choose happiness, and fulfill their dreams. As outliers, these individuals may find it difficult to be understood by those with more common personal histories. If this resonates with you, you are not alone and we can help. We “get it” because our founder is a survivor!
