Beer and Conversation with Pigweed and Crowhill show

Beer and Conversation with Pigweed and Crowhill

Summary: You like beer, and you like conversation, right? Of course you do. Pigweed and Crowhill review a beer (sometimes their own homebrews) and discuss issues of the day. They try to break down serious issues into bite-sized chunks, and add some humor when possible. But it's all in good fun. Just two pals chatting over a beer.

 The Moon | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 29:39

The boys drink and review Sierra Nevada's 40th Anniversary Ale, then talk about the Moon. Why do we always see the man in the moon? Doesn't the moon spit on its axis? If so, why do we always see the same side? The boys discuss this and other interesting features about the moon and the solar system. And where did the moon come from?

Waco, David Koresh, the ATF and the FBI | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 40:57

How should we understand these sincere believers who are a little nutty and often quite wicked? Are they simply fakes, or is it more complicated than that? What did the folk in Waco do to deserve this no-knock, armed raid? Any if the Davidians were expecting and preparing for an armed conflict with the government, why in the heck would the ATF fulfill that prophecy for them? Did the government go too far? And who was at fault for the fire that destroyed the compound?

 Muslim Outrage | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 31:11

The boys drink and review a low-calorie IPA: The One-y from Oscar Blues. Then they discuss outrage. We hear a lot about "Karen" these days. Some people are always judging everybody for everything. But in the west, Karen is the exception that we mock. In the Muslim world, everybody is upset about everything -- big or small -- all the time. Pigweed has had enough, and the boys discuss. Maybe there's a difference between "virtue signaling" and "shame signaling."

Dennis Prager -- Newz and Booze | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 31:14

While the boys drink Crowhill's audacious braggot, they discuss some of Prager's recent outrageous statements and the social media censorship of Prager University. Prager suggests that the worldwide lockdown may be the greatest mistake in human history. Quite a claim, which the boys interrogate. The next big issue about Prager is his censorship on YouTube and other social media outlets. Who gave them the right to do this?

 Self-driving cars | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 34:50

P&C drink and review a mango IPA, then discuss self-driving cars. There's a 1-5 level system for different levels of car automation. We're at about level 3 now. In order to give some context to the discussion, the boys replay some footage of their recent ride in a self-driving car, and all the ethical decisions that have to be made to program a self-driving car.

The Divine Right of Kings | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 31:27

P&C drink and review 1634 Ale from Brewer's Alley, then discuss kingship, and the divine right of kings. The show starts with a Ben Franklin Players production, then the boys riff off of that into issues about kings, succession, and what God has to do with it. Pigweed reviews some of the historic issues surrounding Charles II and his succession, and how issues of competence didn't matter as much as blood lineage and other weird things that don't make much sense to modern people.

 Mother's Day | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 36:39

Mothers are nice to have around. They're comforting and nurturing, and especially necessary for little children. From the moment a child is conceived, the child has a deep biological connection to mother. The child grows up hearing mother's heartbeat, her voice, and literally living off her body. As the child grows, his emotional control is regulated by the mother. He learns what to be scared of and what to trust by watching how mom reacts. But unfortunately, motherhood has been politicized.

Behind the scenes: A cat named Mo | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 12:28

Pigweed wrestles with naming a new cat This is a quick and silly episode where you get a glimmer of the boys' banter once the show is over. Of course they're still drinking a beer. This time it's Sleeves Baltic Porter from Manor Hill brewing.

 Journalism Sucks | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 42:27

P&C drink and review Spruce Willis, from DuClaw, then discuss the state of journalism. Sometimes journalists are simply ignorant. Other times they mix in opinion with the story. In fact, they do that most of the time. Pigweed and Crowhill review a few recent egregious examples of journalistic malfeasance, like the way the press treated Kavanaugh vs. the way they're treating Biden. Later the boys get into science journalism, which is, if possible, even worse.

 Man's relationship to the planet | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 38:18

The boys drink and review Pigweed's Imperial Amber and discuss Earth Day and environmentalism. People believe the world is bad and getting worse. But if you measure the planet by its ability to promote human flourishing, Earth is getting better all the time. The engine for all this prosperity is fossil fuels. Humans should care for the environment so they can promote a better life for humans. That should be the focus of our environmentalism.

 Bumper stickers | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 42:15

The boys drink and review Pigweed's delicious homebrewed sour beer, then discuss bumper stickers.  Every day, each of us projects an image to the world -- how we want the world to perceive who we are, what we like, and so on. We do it in our clothes, the magazines and books we buy, the way we cut our hair, and .... in these weird stickers we put on the backs of our vehicles.  P&C analyze a few interesting bumper stickers and discuss what image the person is trying to project.

Emergency powers and government orders | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 45:47

Pigweed is upset about all these new rules and restrictions, telling him what to do. Recently, we've seen more and more executive orders. How are we going to restrain this? There are crisis situations where we need the public to act a certain way. But does that have to be an order? Can't we appeal to people and ask them to act responsibly? Also, it seems un-American to give one person power without giving someone else the power to hold them in check. We seem to have missed that a little.

Death, car accidents, emergency powers, handshakes and more | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 36:02

1. Our insulation from death in the modern world, and how that affects our lives. 2. What if the media covered auto fatalities in the same 24x7 manner they cover other stories? 3. How much power do you hand over to the government during a crisis, and what are the limits? Once the crisis is over, will it stop? 4. Pigweed's theory of the Asian bow, and might we see the death of the handshake? 5. Mail bag. Did the boys diss the 7 deadly sins? Also, women and men, the sense of smell, and brewing.

The Ten Commandments | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 47:58

Where did we get the 10 Commandments, and why do they have such an influence on modern life?  Why are so few of the commandments reflected in our laws?  Why do Jews, Protestants and Catholics number them differently? And are there conflicting versions of the commandments in the Bible?

Deal Breakers in the Dating Game | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 38:56

What things would cause the boys to disqualify a prospective mate? No alcohol? Overweight? Age? Tattoos or piercings?  Five cats? Muslim? And what about speed dating? What questions would the boys ask? What magazines do you get? What bumber stickers are on your car? If you could have any superpower, what would it be? Have you ever cheated?  It's a light-hearted and, thankfully, entirely pretend venture into the crazy world of dating.
