For a goalie Glenn Healy has a great shot. Few can shoot from the hip like the 1994 Stanley Cup Champion. He was in Los Angeles for 99’s arrival, ended the run by 66 when he played for the Islanders, won with the Rangers and spurned Montreal to play for Toronto. He’s musical, loyal, opinionated and never at a loss for words. As for Glenn Healy the broadcaster...creative and honest are the two words that come to mind. Now imagine him helping run the country. Chris Pronger, mean or dirty? He answers the question. Plus he takes me down the path that ends with the answer to why he won just one Norris Trophy. In Episode 5 I ask Chris about all his hardware which gets us into the "puck" controversy from the Philadelphia vs Chicago Stanley Cup Final in 2010. Guess where the pucks from games one and two are? Pronger's relationship with the media talked about at length. (He was honest and proactive, but some felt he went too far) Pronger addresses the most difficult season of his career, and he challenges me to ask great questions. For the first time, we have controversy in first goal - last goal. I am proud of this show, for Pronger always gives you gold, the goal for me was to reveal something I had never heard before. Scott Hartnell and John Garrett are two great storytellers. John played goalie in the WHA and NHL before turning to a career in broadcasting. He talks pets, why Daren is his favourite host and the reason why he was traded from Hartford (some goalie tandems aren't that supportive). Scott Hartnell and Daren met at a stag at Pebble Beach and ever since Hartnell has been a frequent guest on Hockey Central. In Scott's debut on The Chirp, they discuss disagreements with coaches and how much a player can push back, Sean Avery, and what caused the best ceremonial face off in hockey history. Scott scored his last NHL goal on March 22, 2018. He beat Frederik Andersen in a 5-2 loss by the Nashville Predators. It was the final of Hartnell’s 13 goals that year. In Episode 3 of The Chirp I catch up with a friend I first met in my Winnipeg days at CKND-TV. Keith Tkachuk broke in as a brash mid-season addition from the US Olympic team and refused to ease into the NHL. A true power forward, Keith tells me about the pursuit of a 50 goal season, laughs about why he should be considered a Rocket Richard winner, and why he was nervous about being at the house of Chicago owner Bill Wirtz as he negotiated an offer-sheet. Wow, it’s finally here… My own show. The Chirp is an interview/conversation podcast involving people in hockey. What 85% of the guests will have in common is they are friends of mine. That means I know things about them and will try and get them to share those funny things. Example, in episode one I catch up with Arizona Coyotes coach Rick Tocchet. I know a story about Rick playing a pickup game when he was a member of the Penguins, a game in which an out of town buddy of Ricks suited up by stealing Jaromir Jagr’s equipment. ummm whats the worst that could happen.. Rick also shares the story about the one time he “chirped a player” as a head coach. You may or may not be surprised who he called out!!!! PJ and I have mutual respect for each other. He would really like to work with me again so I give him a shot on Episode one. LOL love this guy. He’s top five in my book and yet we talk about goofy stuff, hockey stuff and parenting styles. I hope you enjoy “the chirp” I appreciate all the support. The journey hasn’t been all fun, but the van is gaining speed and were picking up a lot of friends along the way.
