Summary: Check out the Army Flashcards website for more Ranger School resources! The Ranger School Handbook in audio! The first and only complete audio of the Ranger Handbook. Ranger School is a 61-day course designed for small unit leaders, particularly those in Infantry. Considered by many to be the Army’s elite Infantry Tactics course, those who earn their Ranger tab are considered to be masters of small unit tactics. Indeed for certain units in the Army, having your Ranger Tab is actually mandatory. The school was first created in 1950. Over the years the school has undergone various changes. From 1967 until 1972, it was actually mandatory for all commissioned officers! It currently consists of three phases in Georgia and Florida: Darby Phase, Mountain Phase, and Florida Phase. Ranger School training consists of various small unit tasks which include: patrolling, land navigation, patrol base operations, reconnaissance, offensive operations (Ambush and Raid), mountaineering, demolitions, airborne operations, and air assault operations. Ranger training is infamous for its food and sleep deprivation. Students can expect to get an average of 3.5 hours of sleep and if you’re lucky, 2 meals a day. This is one reason, among many, that the school is considered to be one of the most difficult in the Army. The Ranger Tab isn’t for everyone, but if you think you have what it takes, check out the Army Flashcards Ranger School Podcast to prepare yourself for the challenge!
