 24. Antarctica - The Mysterious Death of an Astrophysicist | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 43:20

Rodney Marks was an Australian astrophysicist, who worked with the Smithsonian Astrophysical Observatory at the South Pole. After a day’s work, he became violently ill. 24 hours later he would be dead. But due to the harsh weather conditions, it would be six months before his body could be transported to New Zealand for a post-mortem examination. After an excruciating wait, results showed that Rodney had died from methanol poisoning. On the base were 49 other people, trapped in the winter cold. Was Rodney killed by one of his co-workers, or was his death a tragic accident?  21. Russia - The Chessboard Killer (aka The Bitsevsky Park Maniac) | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 48:51

Russian serial killer, Alexander Pichuskin killed 48, but possibly as many as 60 people between 1992 and 2006. He initially said that his aim was to kill 64 people, one for every square on a chessboard. Later he recanted his statement, saying that, had he not been caught, he would have carried on killing indefinitely. Had he filled all the squares on one board with victims, he would simply have gone out and bought another board to fill.  Before he was caught, he was known as the Bitsevsky Park Maniac. After police found his marked chessboard, however, he was renamed: The Chessboard Killer. For pictures and more information, join us on Facebook. Want to become a Patron of the podcast?
