We are back with another Geektown Radio podcast, and I'm joined by Robert from Entertainment Talk to chat through our week in tv, film & gaming, along with all the weekly tv news, renewals and cancellations. We begin by reviewing the last 7 days in tv, film and gaming. Robert has been testing out the closed Beta for 'New World', a new open-world MMO PC game from Amazon Games. He also gives us his thoughts on 'Masters of the Universe: Revelation', which are somewhat different to mine! On the gaming side, I've been failing at 'Crusader Kings 3' once again, so took a break to pick up the wonderful 'Psychonauts' after chatting to Matt about it last week. On the tv and film side, I've finished my run through the whole of 'The Clone Wars', so give my thoughts on the final season. I also watched much talked about movie 'The Suicide Squad', so give a spoiler-free review of that. In the TV news, we run through the various renewals, cancellations and pickups. In the news, we discuss another big US streaming service coming to the UK... and also what is missing from it... We talk through 'Law & Order: Organized Crime' attempting to "keep up with the Jones" in their new casting, and the possible revival of the wonderful 'Zoey’s Extraordinary Playlist'. We are back with another Geektown Radio podcast, and I'm joined by Matt from Entertainment Talk to chat through our week in tv, film & gaming, along with all the weekly tv news, renewals and cancellations. We begin by reviewing the last 7 days in tv, film and gaming. Matt has been doing some retro gaming in preparation for an upcoming sequel, as he plays through the utterly brilliant 'Psychonauts', which also happens to be one of my favourite games ever. He's also been catching up on tv with HBO's 'The Nevers' and Netflix series 'Warrior Nun'. Meanwhile, I have been getting into some geeky documentaries, with 'The History Of Comedy' on Sky Documentaries, and 'Secret History Of Comics' on Sky History. In the TV news, we run through the various renewals, cancellations (or rather, lack of cancellations!) and pickups. In the news, we discuss the big upcoming changes to Sky, as the broadcaster says goodbye to Sky One, and talk through the new lineup. We also discuss the announcement that the Peacock streaming service will be landing in the UK later this year, and the rumours of a merging between NBCUniversal and ViacomCBS.  Geektown Behind The Scenes Podcast 49: 'Sweet Tooth' Composer Jeff Grace Interview | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 00:34:25

On this episode of the Geektown Behind The Scenes podcast, I am chatting with Jeff Grace, composer on Netflix wonderful fantasy adventure series 'Sweet Tooth'. Based on the DC/Vertigo comic book, 'Sweet Tooth' is set ten years after “The Great Crumble”, an event that wreaked havoc on the world and led to the mysterious emergence of hybrids — babies born part human, part animal. Unsure if hybrids are the cause or result of the virus, many humans fear and hunt them. After a decade of living safely in his secluded forest home, a sheltered hybrid deer-boy named Gus (Christian Convery) unexpectedly befriends a wandering loner named Jepperd (Nonso Anozie). Together they set out on an extraordinary adventure across what’s left of America in search of answers — about Gus’ origins, Jepperd’s past, and the true meaning of home. Jeff Grace is an award-winning composer who has scored a multitude of films and tv series, a number of which have been collaborations with 'Sweet Tooth' showrunner Jim Mickle. They include the Sundance TV drama 'Hap and Leonard' which ran on Amazon in the UK, the Netflix film 'In the Shadow of the Moon', starring Boyd Holbrook and Michael C. Hall, the movies 'Cold In July', starring Michael C. Hall, Sam Shepard and Don Jonson, and 'Night Moves', starring Jesse Eisenberg and Dakota Fanning. More recently Jeff has been scoring Facebook Watch series 'The Birch', and Tom Dolby's film 'The Artist's Wife' starring Lena Olin and Bruce Dern. In the interview, Jeff discusses his long collaboration with Jim Mickle, and how he came up with the unique hybrid sound of 'Sweet Tooth'. There are a number of spoilers in this interview, so I would strongly suggest you watch the series first before listening. The drama comes from Robert Downey Jr. and Susan Downey’s Team Downey, and Netflix has recently revealed it has been watched by 60 million member households, placing it as the 6th most-watched English-language original series on the streaming service Support this show http://supporter.acast.com/geektown.  See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.

Geektown Behind The Scenes Podcast 46: Katherine McNamara - 'Untitled Horror Movie' Interview | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 00:14:31

On this episode of the Geektown Behind The Scenes podcast, I am chatting with actress Katherine McNamara about her new film 'Untitled Horror Movie'. Katherine, you will probably know as Mia from The CW series 'Arrow', Clary Fray on the supernatural drama 'Shadowhunters', or Sonya in the 'Maze Runner' films. More recently she has appeared in the CBS adaptation of Stephen King's 'The Stand', and now re-teams with her 'Shadowhunters' castmate Luke Baines in the wonderfully fun 'Untitled Horror Movie'. 'Untitled Horror Movie' is described as a comedy about making a horror movie by Nick Simon, the director who brought you, 2017 film 'Truth or Dare'. When six co-stars learn their hit TV show is about to be cancelled, they decide to shoot their own movie - after all, how hard can it be? Stuck for a plot, they unintentionally summon a demonic spirit with an affinity for violence that starts picking them off, one vapid actor at a time. The film stars Luke Baines and Katherine McNamara from 'Shadowhunters', Claire Holt ('Vampire Diaries'), Emmy Raver-Lampman ('The Umbrella Academy'), Darren Barnet ('Never Have I Ever') and Tim Granaderos ('13 Reasons Why') as the main six. There are also a few other familiar faces who pop up too including Kal Penn ('House', ' Designated Survivor'), Aisha Tyler (' Whose Line Is It Anyway?', 'Archer'), Kevin Daniels ('Why Women Kill', 'Council of Dads'), Lesly Kahn ('Quantum Leap'), and Sohm Kapila ('Jane The Virgin'). Written by star Luke Baines & director Nick Simon, the entire movie was shot during the pandemic by the actors in their own homes, with them doing their own lighting, makeup, and stunts! Nick describes it as "Part ghost movie, part self-aware comedy, part deranged Gen-Z satire," which I think sums it up nicely! It's a tremendously fun and entertaining send-up of the genre Support this show http://supporter.acast.com/geektown.  See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.

Geektown Behind The Scenes Podcast 45: 'Star Trek: Discovery' Pixomondo VFX Supervisor Fausto Tejeda | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 00:23:38

On this episode of the Geektown Behind The Scenes podcast, I am chatting with Fausto Tejeda from Visual Effects company Pixomondo Toronto, who are the people behind the VFX for 'Star Trek: Discovery'. Fausto specialises in sci-fi/action genres in both traditional VFX and Virtual Production formats, most notably the streaming series Star Trek: Discovery, a hybrid of both. Throughout the show’s four seasons, Fausto helped bring to the screen various creatures (Gormagander/Space Whale, Tardigrade), environments (rocky terrains of large asteroids) and ships (USS Discovery). His spectacular work on the final battle sequence in Season Two, between Section 31, The Enterprise and Discovery ships, earned Fausto an Emmy nomination. Fausto worked in various supervisory capacities on Discovery, including CG Supervisor, On-set Supervisor, and VFX Supervisor. In 2021, Fausto helped guide the show towards a new filmmaking era when Discovery transitioned to shooting on PXO’s LED Volume stage in Season Four, where Fausto served as one of the on-set Virtual Production Supervisors. For those of you that don't know what a "Volume" is, we do explain that more in detail in the interview. However, it was the groundbreaking technology that was first developed by the team behind 'The Mandalorian', to spectacular effect. The tech has begun sweeping through the VFX industry as a brand new way of creating virtual environments and worlds, not only speeding up production, but also giving the actors much more to work with than a standard green screen. We also discuss Amazon's acquisition of MGM, and talk through the latest pilot updates from The CW, including new DC Comics series 'Naomi', and the reworking of the 'Powerpuff' pilot.
