August 1969, a 20 year old woman Lucille Butterworth disappears from a bus stop in Hobart. Police believe she is a runaway who will return and fail to respond adequately for weeks. Eventually, a suspect is identified but he is not charged and no trace of Lucille is ever found. In 2010, the boss of a suburban station reviews the file and discovers crucial evidence that will embarrass Tasmania Police.
Police delve into the background of a new suspect and re-interview witnesses from the past. They find new sources who were never interviewed by the original investigators. And a confession that was never acted upon comes to light after more than 40 years.
There is enough bring Geoffrey Hunt in for questioning over the murder of Lucille. Armed with reams of new circumstantial evidence, investigators probe Hunt for four hours. They prove he is a liar but can they pin a murder on him?
July 2015. Amid news of a breakthrough in the case, an excavation begins on a site where Lucille's remains are alleged to have been dumped. Questions are asked when it's discovered that police have known of the location since 1976. The investigation is becoming a damning indictment of police ineptitude. The coroner makes a finding on who he believes killed Lucille.
