This new year, Jesus challenges us to change ourselves. With God's grace, this will lead to healing and new life. Let us pray with the Psalmist: "Lord, create in me a clean heart."

The Psalm at Mass on Christmas proclaims, "the light will shine on us this day. The Lord is born for us." It is the Truth that fills us with such joyful hope, even in the midst of the darkness we experience in our world, and in our nation, and even in our Church. The light has conquered the darkness, the One who is Lord and Savior. Our call is to make sure it is that Light that guides us each day, as we strive to grow in holiness and faithfulness and integrity. We are sent forth to radiate that light...

Bishop Burbidge is back to work and expresses his gratitude for the talented medical professionals who cared for him, as well as for the many people who have offered him their prayers. All U.S. bishops gather in January for a spiritual retreat to gain clarity about what steps must be taken to prevent child sexual abuse by clergy, to provide accountability for bishops, and to help victims in their healing. This third week of Advent, which kicks off with the celebration of Gaudete Sunday, we rejoice in the Lord, who is our strength. May we be ready and prepared to greet Jesus, who we await!

Advent is a time of preparation during which we direct our hearts and minds to Our Lord’s birth while also awaiting with joyful anticipation His second coming at the end of time. It is important that we focus and prepare. We need to worship, to reflect, and to act charitably, so that when Christmas morning arrives, we are ready to welcome our Lord with joy into our homes, our hearts and every aspect of our lives
