 Blazing Saddles episode 88: Drive me off this picture | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 42:52

As the episode opens, the rioters are still spilling out of the Warner Brother studios. Hedley Lamarr makes his way across the street to hail a cab. A man on the corner, not associated with the movie, managed to make it into the movie. As the cab pulls up, Hedley demands, "Drive me off this picture." Even though the theater is a 16 minute drive, it's suddenly late at night when Hedley arrives. He pushes his way to the box office and buys a ticket to see Blazing Saddles.

The episode opens with the fight continuing to spill into the Warner Brothers commissary. A tour group gets appropriately pie-struck on their tour. Then Taggart gets smashed by Mongo and flies across the counter to the register. Suddenly, the men's room opens and Hedley mouths a naughty word before retreating back inside. A moment later he re-emerges, the remnants of a pie dripping from his face. He begins to make his way out. We end the minute with the rioters spilling out onto the streets of Burbank.

The episode opens just after Taggart hits Buddy in the gut. One of the dancers yells, "They've hit, Buddy! Come on girls!" With that, the brawl, continues. We discuss several vignettes within the minute and as the episode comes to an end, we move to the commissary. In the foreground, a man dressed as Hitler is eating a sandwich. His companion asks how many days he has left? He replies, "They lose me at the end of the bunker scene." At that moment, a man is thrown through the glass of the door.

The episode opens with Buddy Bizarre pulling his foot out of the water. He instructs the dancers to get into places. As the music kicks in, the side wall crashes down. The riot from the streets of Rock Ridge spills into the closed set. Buddy yells, "CUT!" As he begins to chastise them, Taggart walks up. He tells him, "I'm working for Mel Brooks." Just as he is about to throw a punch, Buddy begs, "Not in the face!" Taggart winds up and hits Buddy in the gut. Buddy thanks him for that and falls to the ground.

The episode continues with the crane shot moving from the back lot of Warner Brothers and zooms toward a pair of sound stages. Inside the sound stage, dozens of male dancers are dressed in top hats and tails. The playback starts and they begin to dance the French Mistake. On the closing line, singing, "You're doing the French Mistake," one of the dancers stumbles. Buddy Bizzare screams, "WRONG!!" He attempts to show them how to do it. His final pirouette, however, has him plunging his leg into the pond.

We open with the bad guys trying to escapt just as the good guys arrive. Let the battle begin! Reverend Johnson knees a villain in the crotch then lifts his arms to the Heavens and cries, "Forgive me, Lord!" We see Gabby Johnson finish a swig, grab a ruffian and exhale in his face, making his pass out. Harriet Johnson demonstrates a great right-cross. Jim accidentally hits Bart and immediately apologizes. Then, just as the crane shot starts to rise and pull away, we see Mongo punch Gabby Johnson!

The Waco Kid is about to take his shot. We cut to Taggart getting off his horse and moving to kick down the door to a building. As he does, the entire facade falls, revealing the fake. As Taggart yells they've been suckered in, Jim lines up his revolver. The Waco Kid squeezes off a shot. A moment later, the first charge goes off, sending a horse and its rider into the sky. As the minute comes to an end, Sheriff Bart leads the citizens to charge down the hill to attack.

The episode opens with Taggart yelling for everyone to hurry. We spend time discussing a large outtake. The Governor is on a press tour and makes a stop in the fake town. Afterwards, Taggart and his men are next on scene. Jim comments they're buying it. As the bad guys are shooting up the town, Bart pushes down on the plunger. The dynamite doesn't explode. Bart looks to Jim. "Think you can squeeze off a little shot from here..." But, we don't get the rest of the line as that is where the episode ends.

We open with Bart whispering into Jim's ear. As the scene dissolves, we see Lamarr's army charging toward the camera. As they close, a gate closes and they all come to a halt. The reverse shot shows it is a toll booth. Taggart reads aloud, "Lepetomane thruway!?" He yells, "Somebody's gotta go back and get a sh*t load of dimes!" As the minute comes to an end, we see Bart, Jim and the citizens of Rock Ridge gathered on the top of a rocky hill. someone is handing Bart a plunger to ignite explosives.

The episode opens with Hedley Lamarr continuing the pledge. He ends with a twist on a Cole Porter lyric. He says, "Now go do, that voodoo, that you do, so well!" As they ride off, we immediately transition back to the fake Rock Ridge. Bart holds up his hands and tells everyone they have a problem. Olson Johnson catches on and realizes there are no people. Bart reassures the citizens they can get it done in time. He instructs them to get to work while he has an idea to delay the attackers to a crawl.

The episode opens with the camera pulling back to show an exact replica of the town of Rock Ridge. They begin to celebrate as we cut to Hedley Lamarr's camp where he is about to give a speech. We point out a big continuity error with the German soldiers. Hedley opens his speech about stamping runaway decency. He then reminds everyone that they are only risking their lives. He is risking an almost certain nomination for Best Supporting Actor. He then gets them to take the beginning of the pledge to himself.

We open in the midst of the discussion over giving the railroad workers some land of their own. Olson Johnson decides they will give land to everybody. Reverend Johnson asks if they can complete their task in one night? Or are they just jerking off? The scene dissolves to the next day and we are outside of a miniature of the town of Rock Ridge. We then cut to a shot of them on Main Street. The shot is a fantastic, close-up dolly shot across the main players all admiring the work they have accomplished.

We continuing in the middle of the prairie in the middle of the night. Howard Johnson asks how they plan to build a fake town? They don't have the time and they don't have the people. Bart tells him he is wrong just as the railroad workers show up. Howard asks who they are? Bart says, "Railroad workers!" He says they are willing to help and all they ask is a piece of land to call their own. The town is reluctant but initially agrees to all but the Irish. Unfortunately, Bart tells them, "No deal."

We open with Bart telling Charlie to say goodbye. As they leave, Charlie begins to wake up the other railroad workers and tells them to start gathering supplies. The scene dissolves to an open area of prairie in the middle of the night. Bart addresses the folks of Rock Ridge. He says he knows they must want to know what they are doing out there in the middle of the night? In unison they all say, "You bet your a_s!" He's hip with them and then says they are going to build an exact replica of Rock Ridge.

With Bart having been discovered, he decides it's time to leave. He announces his next impression, Jesse Owens! Jim and Bart flee in rapid fashion. Hedley demands his men catch them while Taggart yells to head them off at the pass. The episode ends with Jim and Bart sneaking into the railroad camp to speak with Charlie. They tell him to gather the men and supplies and meet three miles due east of Rock Ridge at midnight.
