The New York Yankees lose a blowout to the Baltimore Orioles, 14-1, to earn a split with the second-place Orioles. Luis Severino still can’t figure things out and only lasts two and two-thirds innings. He threw batting practice to the Orioles' lineup, and nearly every pitch was flat. None of them were working. It was a rough night at the Stadium for him and the rest of the Yankees as all the good feelings they built up during the first two games of the series were erased by Wednesday and Thursday’s games. The New York Yankees were defeated by the Baltimore Orioles 6-3 on Wednesday night with a rare poor performance from the bullpen. The New York Yankees had a big 6-3 comeback win on Monday night against the Baltimore Orioles in the Bronx in the first game of a big four-game set between the division rivals. The New York Yankees lost a series to the St. Louis Cardinals this weekend. After a rainout on Friday night, the Yanks and Cards played a doubleheader that was a nightmare for Luis Severino who gave up nine runs (seven earned) in only four innings. The Yankees won the second game of the doubleheader thanks to the bullpen who pitched the entire game and the offense who scored six runs. Then on Sunday, the offense was held in check by former Yankee Jordan Montgomery and Gerrit Cole picked up his second loss of the season. But there was good news for him, he’s an All-Star! The New York Yankees dropped the first game in Oakland, 2-1, and the offense was silenced by a team with the league’s worst team ERA. Is this what the Yankees are? A team with good pitching (mostly) and an extremely bad offense? Perhaps. Jhony Brito was fine, and Jhony Britoesque going five and two-thirds innings, but again, the offense was a Josh Donaldson solo shot. The Yankees were 0-5 with runners in scoring position and couldn’t get anything going. Could this be the first year this century when no Yankees play in the All-Star Game? It’s possible. This doesn’t mean guys won’t be voted onto the team; it just means we may not see a Yankees uniform on the field for the first time since 1991 and for only the second time since 1943. The New York Yankees beat the Seattle Mariners 3-1 thanks to a stellar pitching performance from Gerrit Cole. Cole lasted seven and one-third innings, only gave up a run (and not on a home run), and struck out eight. He looked like the ace of the team when they needed him to be, and the Yankees snapped their four-game losing streak. On offense, Harrison Bader was back and got a single in his first at-bat, but the most important offensive performance of the night belonged to Anthony Rizzo. Sure, Billy McKinney hit the two-run jack, but Rizzo hadn’t been playing well for a month, and on Tuesday, he woke up. Is this a sign of good things to come? We discuss. The New York Yankees were swept by the Boston Red Sox this weekend. They dropped Friday’s game, 15-5, and after the rainout on Saturday, they were swept in a doubleheader, 6-2 and 4-1 respectively.
