Hawkeye History Podcast: Brandon Myers | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 56:39

IOWA CITY, Iowa – Iowa continues solidifying itself as Tight End U. Former Hawkeye George Kittle is coming off a historic season with the San Francisco 49ers. T.J. Hockenson and Noah Fant are entering the league as the first teammates at the position ever to be picked in the first round of the same NFL Draft. Former Iowa tight end Brandon Myers feels like that trio has raised Iowa’s profile at the spot. Even he is amazed at their high level of talent. Hawkeye fans old enough to remember understand Myers’ contributions to the program’s tight end lineage. His catches in the 2008 upset of Penn State at Kinnick Stadium rank up there with some of the most clutch during the coach Kirk Ferentz Era. Myers, who played at small-school Iowa, Prairie City-Monroe High and grew up on a farm, grabbed a Hawkeye scholarship late in the process and wrestled with his decision to decommit from Northern Iowa to accept it. After a successful run in Iowa City, he played eight seasons in the NFL. We caught up with Myers, who now lives in Arizona with his wife and young child, in our latest Hawkeye History podcast. He talked about how he ended up at Iowa, his time there, his NFL career and more. Please give it a listen.

Hawkeye History Podcast: AJ Blazek | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 57:26

IOWA CITY, Iowa – When Kirk Ferentz took over as Iowa’s head coach before the 1999 season, he was looking for bodies. That’s what A.J. Blazek was. The Butler Junior College center received his only FBS offer from the Hawkeyes. Ferentz would later tell him what he lacked in natural ability, he made up for in work ethic and toughness. That’s served Blazek well as he’s climbed the college football coaching ladder. He began as an Iowa graduate assistant and continued on a path that took him through JUCO and the Big Ten. He became the North Dakota State offensive line coach this past offseason. Blazek leaving his position as the Rutgers O-Line coach and assistant head coach for an FCS job caused outsiders to wonder what he was doing. The same could be said about the time he took his hat out of the ring to return to his alma mater a few years ago. While his journey has brought questions from others, Blazek couldn’t be more comfortable with the decisions he’d made. He spoke with us about that, his time as a Hawkeye, watching the recruitment of his nephew Xavier Foster and more in the latest Hawkeye History Podcast. Please give it a listen.
