 Interview with Gnarboots (Part 1) – Podcast 120 | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 0:41:30

We here at Sound Scene Revolution have always prided ourselves on taking risks and breaking the molds.  When most people looked to terrestrial radio, we took to the internet.  When most people look to top 40 music, we look to underground artists.  When most people said you need to bath at least once a week…You get the idea.  Today, we continue our fine tradition of non-tradition by premiering not one, but two new shows, featuring not two but one band!  That’s right, Oakland/San Jose/Santa Cruz’s world famous Gnarboots spent so much time explaining their sounds, spreading otherworldly lies and doing Boys II Men songs that it couldn’t make it into one interview.  So, instead of painstakingly stressing over the best 20 to 30 minutes we just threw the whole mess down (binary style) for you to enjoy.  So check out what is legitimately one of the longest and strangest interviews we’ve ever done, with one of the strangest bands out there. We’re still running some contests (NoBunny, namely) so check those shows out.  As always, drop us some information and question(ation)s at SoundSceneRevoltion[at]gmail[dot]com, on myspace or in our comments section and follow us on Twitter (twitter.com/soundscenerev)…We’ll post something soon.  And remember, “Sheriff Joe Arpaio has a posse.” -Rich Official Site of Gnarboots Gnarboots on MySpace Gnarboots Live Videos: 1, 2 Gnarboots Live Set

 Interview with Franz Nicolay – Podcast 119 | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 0:56:14

Thanks for checking in.  We’re back with a brand new show featuring everyone’s favorite mustachioed musician, Franz Nicolay.  Along with being a fantastic reason to use the phrase, “mustachioed” Franz is a hell of a musician.  He’s probably more known for his work with The Hold Steady and The World/Inferno Friendship Society but before he was the wizard on the keyboard he was a solo artist.  Recently, he’s returned to the frontman role with two solo releases, Major General and St. Sebastian of the Short Stage.  We had the chance to sit down and talk about his former projects, his solo releases, touring Redding, CA and even tap dancing.  It’s pretty much everything you could ask for from a man of Franz’ caliber. No new shows this week, but we are still running the NoBunny contest from last week.  Be sure to check it out for your chance to win Love Visions on LP.  I’ll be bringing our brand of shenanigans and interviews to Punk Rock Bowling this year, so hopefully we’ll get some good content out of that.  Be sure to contact us at SoundSceneRevolutionb[at]gmail[dot]com, on MySpace or our comments section.  And follow us on Twitter at Twitter.com/Soundscenerev.  And remember, “What if John Kennedy had said, ‘Ich bin ein Berliner,’ in Spanish?” -Rich Official site of Franz Nicolay Franz Nicolay on MySpace Franz Nicolay on Wikipedia Franz Nicolay on  Punknews.org

 Interview with NoBunny – Podcast 118 | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 0:46:01

Thanks so much for taking the time to check back in with us at SSR.  I feel like every new episode I post an apology for taking so long to update. Hopefully, we have enough to keep going for a while, but none of that matters today.  What matters is that we have a brand new show with Oakland’s own NoBunny!  I’m never going to claim to be well educated in garage rock, or lo-fi buzz or anything like that but what I can say is NoBunny rocks.  As if being a complete musical anomaly wasn’t good enough, the guy is also funny and strange as hell to talk to.  So check it out if you want all the scoop on the artist Jay Reatard said put out the best album of 2009. We also have a chance to win a fancy vinyl copy of NoBunny’s LP, Love Visions.  I have two copies that we may give away, the original Bubble Dumb version and the red repress that was actually an over run that has white labels and a stamp as the center label (I think there’s like 200 of these at most).  So if you like selling shit on ebay, you’ll want this for sure.  As always, send us feedback, questions and critiques at SoundSceneReveolution[at]gmail[dot]com, on MySpace or in our comments section and follow us on Twitter (Twitter.com/SoundSceneRev).  And remember, “We’re just cashing in on her celebrity right now,” wisdom. -Rich NoBunny on Wikipedia NoBunny on MySpace NoBunny on Punknews.org

Interview with Hour of the Wolf – Podcast 117 | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 0:51:29

I could not be happier to bring you this weeks guest and show.  We actually conducted this interview later in the evening after last weeks interview, with Touche Amore.  After leaving the venue, we caught Hour of the Wolf at Comadre’s place (well Jack Shirley’s place), and they were totally nice enough to chat with us.  At this point I had a bit to drink and was probably misstating a few facts.  So if something is wrong, my bad. For those who don’t know Hour of the Wolf is a completely rad hardcore band from Arizona, who oft get compared to hardcore pioneers The Misfits (the original, not whatever they are now).  So check out the interview and always cyber with us at SoundSceneRevolution[at]gmail[dot]com, on Myspace, or our comments.  And be sure to check out our up to the minute twitter at twitter.com/soundscenerev.  Once we start rolling again expect a ton of news.  And remember, “I don’t know. You’d have to ask their employees who seem to relish in running around the internet spreading rumours about it – total fucking bullshit by the way. The only thing I’m going to say about it is that there were some severe personality clashes and if I ever had any fucking doubt whatsoever about leaving that label, those doubts would’ve been erased completely by watching the reaction of the people at that label once we left.” -Rich Read more: http://www.punknews.org/article/36514#ixzz0dh2OuX0A Official site of Hour of the Wolf Hour of the Wolf on MySpace Hour of the Wolf on Punknews

 Interview with Touché Amoré – Podcast 116 | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 0:36:31

We’re so excited to be back with a brand new show for the new year (and indeed the new decade).  What better way to ring in the new year than with a new band who’s rising faster than Republican boners after Brown’s election, Touche Amore.  These guys are from LA and they play some old school emo/hardcore/I hate Genres.  Anyhow, they’re super good and they happen to be friends with some dude from Thursday, so your hip friends now them through that.  If you don’t know too much about them but dig the interview you can enter to win a copy of their debut full length …To the Beat of a Dead Horse on 12″ vinyl and CD.  Just tune in to the end of the broadcast to get that info. As always send us some info at Soundscenerevolution@gmail.com, on myspace or here in our comments.  Also, now that we’re back doing shows we’re on the wild world of twitter www.twitter.com/soundscenerev.  Get into all that madness.  And remember, “”Woods is a good role model … because he has always been able to pull himself together after setbacks.  The Fest Hotel Show – Podcast 115 | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 0:38:41

**CAUTION**: This week’s show starts out loud and annoying and gets better from there. This is gonna be short and sweet.  This is our Holiday Edition and we thought we’d do something better than cobble together some bullshit clips of the least awful things we’ve done in the last year.  So here’s the skinny.  Satureday, October 31, 2009 (the second day of The Fest) Sound Guy Nariman, Justin of punknews and myself, hosted a small acoustic gathering in our hotel in Gainesville, Florida.  The line up for this show was constantly changing due to schedule conflicts, sickness and just plan drunkenness but at the last minute we pulled together three amazing artists, PJ Bond, Aaron Scott (of Attica! Attica!, Ex-Marathon), and Tom May (of the Menzingers).  No set lists were planned and no one really knew how it would go.  In the midst of our poor planning, Sound Guy Nariman had the forethought to record the whole thing.  That recording is presented here, in its entirety, including banter, tuning and people yelling drunkenly at the performers.  It’s not anything close to perfect, but who said music was supposed to be perfect? So, enjoy and be sure to check back after the new year, when we’ll have a full set of new interviews and contests (BTW the Cobra Skulls contest is still running).  Be sure to contact us at SoundSceneRevolution[at]Gamil[dot]Com, on Myspace and follow us at Twitter.com/SoundSceneRev.  Merry Holiday stuff bitches. -Rich PJ Bond on MySpace Attica!  Interview with Cobra Skulls – Podcast 114 | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 0:39:51

This week we post and interview with a band I’ve been a fan of for sometime now.  Over two years and 50 podcasts ago we sat down with the members of Cobra Skulls.  At the time they had a couple of EP’s and a split 7″ under their belt and were getting ready for their first full length.  Since then the band has had a whirlwind of activity, releasing two full lengths, a 7″ and a split 7″ with Andrew Jackson Jihad, not to mention touring the world and giving up any permanent residency.  It’s been a busy couple of years and we wanted to catch up, so we got lucky enough to nail Devon to a chair for a few minutes to chat.  It was great not only to catch up with a band I’ve been following over the years but also to see how much they’ve changed.  When I first talked to them the band seemed almost overwhelmed that anyone would even listen to them.  A couple years later they seem to have come to terms with it and used their new voice to help bring change they really believe in.  And if that doesn’t do it for you, I think we also make some dick and fart jokes. Also this week, we’re opening up a new contest for a copy of the Cobra Skulls new album, American Rubicon, on a lovely 12″ vinyl record.  It’s some sort of colored vinyl but I don’t really know which color…IT’S A CHRISTMAS SURPRISE!!!  Be sure to contact us at SoundSceneRevolution[at]Gamil[dot]Com, on Myspace and follow us at Twitter.com/SoundSceneRev.  Maybe we’ll do some exclusive twitter stuff to make it pay off.  And remember “it’s all part of the secular progressive agenda … to get Christianity and spirituality and Judaism out of the public square.  [B]ecause if you look at what happened in Western Europe and Canada, if you can get religion out, then you can pass secular progressive programs, like legalization of narcotics, euthanasia, abortion at will, gay marriage, because the objection to those things is religious-based, usually.” -Rich Official Site of Cobra Skulls Cobra Skulls on Wikipedia Cobra Skulls on MySpace Cobra Skulls on Punknews.org Cobra Skulls on Facebook

 Interview with The Forensics – Podcast 113 | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 0:49:21

After a week of stuffing ourselves with over sized fowl and braving hordes of meth addicted soccer moms at Wal-Mart at 3am, we’re back to bring you the best and last installment of our Fest interviews.  This week we sat down with Brent Eyestone and his band mates in Forensics.  For those not in the know, Brent is the label overlord of Magic Bullet Records, an amazing label that boasts releases from This Will Destroy You, Doomriders, Austin Lucas and a ton more.  Forensics is the awesome rock band that Brent fronts (I know right, so talented).  They’re somewhere between Kelly Clarkson and mid 2000’s Green Day (and they covered the Gin Blossoms’ “Hey Jealousy” at the Fest in 2008 [yeah it ruled]).  While I wasn’t quite prepared to interview the whole band (I mean, why would I actually want to be prepared for one of these things, ever), we cover everything from how the band got started, to the “revival” of vinyl, to playing live and even what it’s like to run a vanity label (I kid).  It’s pretty awesome and the guys are incredibly candid (something I find in increasing scarcity in music these days). We have one more show after this, then we’ll be bringing you our Holiday Speck-Tac-You-Lore (that’s four syllables of awesome), so don’t miss out!  Also, we’ll be hosting all open contests for about two more weeks, then they’ll all be closed for the holiday season, so if you want to win someone a gift (instead of pissing away $15), or just want something incredible for your white elephant exchange, enter now!  Always feel free to contact us at SoundSceneRevolution[at]Gamil[dot]Com, on Myspace and follow us at Twitter.com/SoundSceneRev and learn how often we do everything!  And remember, “We have to all improve our performance in terms of ensuring error-free broadcasts. To that end, there was a meeting this afternoon between senior managers and the folks who run the daytime shows in which expectations were reviewed, and the following results were announced: Effective immediately, there is zero tolerance for on-screen errors”…Penis. -Rich Official Site of Magic Bullet Records The Forensics on MySpace

Interview with Underground Communique Records – Podcast 112 | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 0:53:47

Sorry we missed last week.  Actually, Sound Guy Nariman didn’t miss last week.  He was all amped and ready to go, but I was out with some awful Sars/Swine Flu hybrid.  Well, I’m back and so is our special Fest coverage. This week we sat down with label head, pizza enthusiast and all around awesome guy, Justin of Underground Communique Records.  Justin has helped put out a ton of records from amazing bands like Olehole (a personal favorite), The Methadones, The Copyrights, Get Rad, Shot Baker and Capital (just to name few).  But more than just being a suit and a corporate big wig, Justin is a dude who loves music and who’s love is so infectious that you can’t listen to him talk without becoming nostalgic for when you first got into music.  That’s because Justin has that same excitement most people have when they first started listening to punk, only he’s way older (like seriously old) and it’s amazing to see someone with that kind of passion and dedication after so many years of involvement. Take a listen and see all that Justin has to say, and whatever bullshit I can churn out.  Also, we have an exclusive and previously unreleased song, curtsy of Justin and his fine label.  So check that out.  Be sure to send us your thoughts, suggestions and questions at SoundSceneRevolution[at]gmail[dot]com, on MySpace or now on Twitter at www.twitter.com/SoundSceneRev.  And remember, “When you look at these gender-confused, haphazard freakazoids then you can plainly see that america is DOOMED, for real!”  Stay classy America. -Rich Official web store of Underground Communique Records Underground Communique Records on MySpace Underground Communique Records on Punknews

 Interview with O Pioneers!!! – Podcast 111 | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 0:44:40

We have a special show for you this week.  For over two years we’ve tried to nail down an interview with O’ Pioneers!!!.  At Fest 6 we missed connecting with them.  On their tour up the west coast we were out of the state.  At Fest 7, Eric was on hold for some photo shoot all weekend and we didn’t hook up.  On their last planned run up the West Coast, they canceled due to van difficulties.  All during this time I’ve come to like Eric Solomon and his band more and more, and I became increasingly frustrated at our inability to interview them.  Finally, at Fest 8, at 2am Monday morning, we got our chance.  I’d be lying if I said I didn’t think the timing and amount of alcohol I consumed that day, didn’t effect this interview.  Still, suck it up and enjoy. Eric and O’ Pioneers!!! are a good bunch of guys (mostly Eric as the band rotates every week [subpoint: BURN to you, current band members]).  If you’re not familiar with them, I’d recommend them for anyone who likes older Against Me!, Hot Water Music, or The Eagles (the animals, not the band).  Their sound has always been kind of striped down (more out of neccesity I’d imagine) and is great for fans of raw, untethered rock. We have a brand new contest this week!  Listen to the interview and learn how to win a copy of O’ Pioneers!!! two albums, Black Mambas and Neon Creeps, on 12″ vinyl records.  That’s 24″ of music!  Just be sure to check out that killer contest and be sure to send us your feedback at SoundSceneRevolution[at]Gmail[dot]com, on Myspace, or here in our fancy comments section!  Be sure to enjoy all the goodness and remember, only 51 weeks until Fest 9 (unless you police assualting dickbags got the whole thing shitcanned). -Rich Official site of O Pioneers!!!  Interview with Dillinger Four – Podcast 110 | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 0:33:19

Thank god Fest is over!  I love that thing but I’m pretty sure it tries to kill me every year.  Sound Crazy?!  This year I have a black eye, a knot on my forehead and a cut on my face to prove it.  I look like I was on the bad end of a prison rape (is there a good end?).  Anyhow, the one piece of mind I have is that this weeks show features the one group of people who probably fared worse than me, Dillinger 4!  However, we did do this show a couple weeks before Fest, when they came to San Francisco, but c’mon, you really think they’ll all be sober enough to do an interview at Fest?  Don’t be an asshole, of course not! If you don’t know who Dillinger 4 is, Google “Paddy’s balls”.  I think they also did something musical at some point but I’ve been wrong before.  Anyhow, enjoy, and remember we still have some contests up and running, so enter all of them just to be safe.  As always, we’re at SoundSceneRevolution[at]gmail.com, on Myspace and here too.  Now go see Michael Jackson in This is It, and shout requests for songs at the screen the whole time. -Rich Official site of Dillinger Four Dillinger Four on Wikipedia Dillinger Four on MySpace Dillinger Four on Punknews

 Interview with Comadre – Podcast 109 | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 0:52:30

What is up peoples!  In preparation for the eighth annual “The Fest” fest in Gainesville, we’ve posting a special episode featuring a band playing Fest you should all know and love, Comadre!  Not only are these handsome fuckers playing The Fest, not only are they from my hometown of Redwood City, not only are they amazing, but I’m pretty sure some kid in my high school had a boy crush on Jack Shirley (who played in Anti-45 at the time).  So figure that out! For those who don’t know about Comadre, let me help.  Imagine Kid Dynamite and Refused, combined into a Hulk like creature that then had to fight its way out of a dance rock show.  Sound good?  Probably not, but trust me Comadre is good.  If their music isn’t reason enough to like them, than how about their bitching punk cred?  These guys have toured the world, put out two albums, a split LP and whatever you want to label A Wolf Ticket all pretty much on their own.  Their label, Bloodtown Records, is headed up by band member and one half of “the ultrasexual Shirley Brothers”, Steven Shirley.  These guys are doing shit their own way and they’re doing it right.  Trust me, you’ll want to hear what they got to say. If all that isn’t reason enough to listen, Comadre, Steven and Bloodtown Records is going to hook some lucky ass up with a great Comadre prize pack, including: 1) The final pressing of the CD/DVD/LP of Burn your Bones (that’s a lot of media for one album) 2) The CD or LP (your choice) of Comdare’s latest, A Wolf Ticket 3) A Comadre t-shirt (please provide your size) All you have to do is listen and learn how to enter to win!  It’s that simple!  It’s exclamation point fantastic!  As always send us e-mail at SoundSceneRevolution[at]Gmail[dot]com, on Myspace, in our comments section AND NOW ON TWITTER! at www.Twitter.com/SoundSceneRev!  That’s right, we came crawling, kicking and screaming into the social networking fold.  We’ll be posting interview updates as they happen and will be taking questions and feedback.  Get into it! -Rich Official Site of Comadre Comadre on Wikipedia Comadre on MySpace Comadre mixtapes

Interview with imadethismistake and Neil Sutherland – Podcast 108 | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 0:58:10

Thanks for coming back and joining us for a very very special episode.  This week we have two totally rad guests.  The first is Kyle(williams) of Imadethismistake, who you may remember from our post-Fest shows last year.  He’s back with a new album, a new tour and stuff to talk about.  Our second guest is Neil Sutherland, who is from the totally non-American area Essex.  Not only is he a great songwriter, but he’s going to get a Phd…Which may make him the smartest damn person ever to talk to us. This interview is jam packed with everything you could hope to know about these two men.  We discuss, touring, the new albums (they each have new stuff for the tour), living on a bus, split personalities and how the hell someone can confuse an English accent for part of Ohio.  It’s everything you could want, PLUS there’s a chance to win three CD’s (I know, they still make em, I was surprised) from these find dudes: 1) Imadethismistake – Tomorrow We Start New 2 2) Neil Sutherland/PJ&Gaby – Be realistic Demand the Impossible 3) Neil Sutherland & Friends – One Hundred Faces That’s a ton of shit, so be sure to listen and learn how to enter. As always, drop us some lines at SoundSceneRevolution[at]Gmail[dot]com, on MySpace or here in our comments section.  We always love to hear from you.  You’re so busy now and you never call, but it’d be good to know you’re still alive.  And always remember, “Imma let you finish, but Beyonce had one of the best videos of all time” -Rich imadethismistake on MySpace Official Site of imadethismistake Official site of Neil Sutherland Neil Sutherland on MySpace

Interview with Dead to Me – Podcast 107 | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 0:41:20

This week I’m really excited to bring you and interview with one of our most frequent and most loved guests.  We first had Chicken on way way back when he was with Western Addiction.  When we first heard about his new band, Dead to Me, I scrambled to get an interview as soon as possible.  An EP and a second full length later, I sit down with him (as well as Nathan and Ian) to talk about regrouping the band, getting a new song writer and what it’s like to really hate work.  And if you listen closely (or at all) you get the opportunity to hear Chicken riddle me with insults….Out of love, of course. We also wrapped up our Attica! Attica! contest, so we’ll have that out shortly.  No new contests just yet, but we’ll work something out soon, so be ready.  As always drop us a line at SoundSceneRevolution[at]Gmail[dot]com, on MySpace or in our comments section.  Maybe we should get a Twitter or a FaceBook.  Thoughts?  And remember, “My 10-year-old daughter is very impressionable, I was going to keep her home tomorrow, but was assured that she wouldn’t be going to social studies that day.” -Rich Dead to Me on Wikipedia Dead to Me on MySpace
