Women’s Heart Health, with Dr. Retu Saxena and Natasha Karn | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 00:00

More women die of heart disease annually than men. Few women, however, perceive heart disease as their greatest health threat, even though the disease claims more lives than the next four leading causes of death combined. In this episode, Dr. Retu Saxena of the Minneapolis Heart Institute Foundation® -- sponsors of February’s Valentine’s Day TC 5K -- discusses women’s heart health issues. She’s joined by Natasha Karn, a Twin Cities attorney who suffered a heart attack 36 weeks into her third pregnancy and shares the story of her diagnosis, treatment, and recovery. Listen to a comprehensive conversation about women’s heart health -- the seriousness of the disease, the state of research, important risk factors, and preventative lifestyle choices – on this episode of Move.  Dr. Edward Laskowski Wants You to be in Shape to Run | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 00:00

Are you in shape to run? Or, are you just in shape from running? We examine that question with Dr. Edward Laskowski, Co-Director of the Mayo Clinic Sports Medicine Center, and a proponent of runners – and all athletes – being in shape to play their sports. Whether for injury prevention or to reach optimal levels of performance, getting in shape to run is a commonly overlooked aspect for runners who may love logging miles but are less dedicated about taking care of the little things than could make those miles more enjoyable, more productive and faster.  Every. Single. Day. Steve Gathje's Epic Running Streak | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 00:00

On September 26, 1972, Steve Gathje went for a run. Nixon was president and a gallon of gas cost 36 cents. Gathje ran every day afterward for 45 years and 10 month. Every. Single. Day. On his wedding day. On each of the days his four children were born. On the day he got stranded in Newark Airport and knocked out a run in the parking lot. Through blizzards and polar vortexes. Through it all. Gathje's streak ended on July 28, 2018, when, after weeks of severe pain in his hip, he learned he had osteoarthritis and would need surgery and an artificial hip. What motivates someone to run 16,742 days in row? Find out on this episode of Move. Together.
