 LITV Episode 18 | Marriage and the Family Part 3 | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 26:06

Marriage and the Family Part 3 – Episode #18 In This Episode... 01:11 – Segment 1 As a parent, we are to disciple our children/li> How does a Christian disciple unsaved children? Even unsaved, children are created in the likeness and image of God and have to be obedient. We should take an evangelistic role with our children, preaching the Gospel saved or not. We need to model the disciplines of the Christian life to our children. The motivation to get our kids to obey needs to be for God’s glory. We are not worthy of having our kids obey us. God is. Kids honor God by obeying their parents. As parents, we need to exhibit the grace that God shows us, but we need to make sure they understand there are consequences for our sin not out of anger. We need to make sure that the consequences are shown to be because of the sin, and not out of unforgiveness of the parent. 09:500 – Segment 2 The branches move onto discussing discipline of children. We cannot discipline in anger. God disciplines the ones He loves and so should we. 16:39 – Segment 3 The branches discuss making sure that your focus is on your family. Volunteer time in ministry cannot override your time in ministry with your family. The branches discuss distribution of roles in the household Scripture Discussed in the Show Hebrews 12:10 - Episode Verse Proverbs 13:24 Hebrews 12:7 and on 1 John 1:6-7 – While James never mentioned the address, he quoted the Scripture Resources We Mentioned in the Show Voddie Baucham Ministries Ligonier Ministries Focus on the Family "Shepherding a Childs Heart" by Tedd Tripp "Parenting - 14 Gospel Principles that Can Radically Change Your Familiy" by Paul Tripp Episode Length 26:06 Thanks so much for tuning in.  LITV Episode 15 | Roman Catholicism vs the Reformation | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 41:14

Roman Catholicism versus the Reformation – Episode #15 In This Episode... 01:50 – Segment 1 The reformation was a Protest to Reform the Catholic Church Justification by Faith Protestant Definition – Legal transaction where we are made right in God’s Sight only because of our faith. Double Imputation – our sins were imputed to Jesus and His perfect righteousness was imputed to us. (Also called the Great Exchange) Another example is a chalkboard full of our sins being erased, but it also has to be filled with righteous deeds which we cannot do, so Jesus writes His deeds on it. Protestant belief is we cannot lose that righteousness. A brief definition is given. The term catholic (with a lower case c) means universal and is okay. Many solid biblical creeds and confessions use the term catholic faith to describe the whole body of the church. When we discuss catholic in this episode, we mean Roman Catholic. 07:45 – Segment 2 Roman Catholic Justification – Infused righteousness. Kind of like a B12 shot of righteousness which you can lose by committing a mortal sin. We believe this flys in the face of the sufficiency of the atonement. The prominent theme of the Reformation is a deep concern for the Gospel. Martin Luther said, in his 1535 commentary on Galatians that is the doctrine of justification is lost, the whole Christian doctrine is lost The immediate cause of the reformation was the selling of indulgences. John mentions that it still exists in the Catholic world. While that is technically true, as a matter of clarification, it is not now, nor has it ever technically been something that can be sold. Indulgences themselves are accepted by Catholic doctrine, but they are not to be sold. Only done through meritorious works. Indulgences are useful to shorten a persons time in purgatory, another Catholic doctrine in which Protestants don’t believe. The discussion of indulgences led into a discussion on the sacramental system. Roman Catholics believe partaking in the sacraments, of which there are seven, will impart grace to the believer. (Per the discussion earlier about losing your infused righteousness, the sacraments help to restore it.) There is a brief discussion on sacraments versus ordinances among Protestants. While all Protestants hold to two sacraments/ordinances – there is a question of what those items do. There is a discussion on the Sacrament of the Anointing of the Sick as necessary to help keep a believer in a state of grace. 18:31 – Segment 3 What is the extent of the church’s authority? Protestants believe the church has authority but only that which it has been given by Scripture. Roman Catholics believe the church has authority, the Scripture has authority, and tradition has authority. When the Pope speaks as the Pope, he is infallible and has ultimate authority. In contrast, we believe that Matthew 16 (and Matthew 18:18) gives the keys to Peter, but in the context of the congregation of the church, not resting in one man. The Council of Trent – The counter reformation – The Roman Catholic church had a discussion on the role of the church compared to Scripture. There was a latin phrase changed from partem partem to et. The nuance was fine, but substantial. John J. laments that in response to the holy view of the church in Roman Catholicism, people have swung too far the other way throwing away creeds and confessions that are extremely helpful to the church body. Item 3 we discussed Why is it important to discuss this? On Long Island, the beliefs of Roman Catholicism is a major roadblock to true faith. Where is the Good News? You have to continually do the sacraments to have a chance to go to heaven.

Join Tim Shaughnessy and Tim Kauffman on this week's episode of Semper Reformanda Radio as they discuss the Roman Catholic practice of venerating relics. Tim Kauffman leads us in a discussion of the different classes of relics and explains that this was not part of the worship of the early church. The practice of venerating relics is a novelty of the late 4th century. Tim Kauffman does another fantastic job of explaining why the Roman Catholic system is built on a house of cards.  SRR #50 | Answering Questions Christians Have For Other Christians Part 2 | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 1:45:29

Join Tim and Carlos and Joseph Rios as they read a complaint email by a fellow podcaster and discuss the use of the term synergistic in relation to conversion. Then they continue to give answers to the youtube video Questions Christians Have for Other Christians. Listen in as Semper Reformanda Radio takes up the defense of Biblical Christianity which may not be popular in some circles today. We strongly believe that the youtube video, which is extremely popular, is a good representation of professing Christians who almost completely lack discernment. As John Robbins wrote: "The lack of discernment is the lack of wisdom and knowledge. It is an intellectual deficiency. Professed churches and professed Christians lack discernment today because they do not know or believe the truth. They profess to, but they do not. Those who decry the lack of discernment in today’s churches usually fail to attribute that lack to its first cause: the purpose, plan, and providence of God. Further, they fail to indicate how God carries out his plan, how he darkens minds, how he withholds his light and his face. Objectively this darkening is the dearth of preaching and publication of the Word; subjectively it is the rejection of revealed truth, including, at the present time, the revealed truth about logical thought."  LITV Episode 16 | Marriage and the Family Part 1 | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 43:37

Marriage and the Family Part 1 – Episode #16 In This Episode... 01:10 – Segment 1 The family structure is under attack today. The divorce rate in the church is just as high in the church as society This is professed believers Marriage – who should be at the center of it? It should be Jesus. God defines marriage as the union of one man and one woman. James references the statement of faith from our church and how we had to change it to respond to the cultural shift in definitions. Bill Nye the Science Guy buys into the new paradigm of definitions of gender The culture has changed its views on things so very quickly. Problems in marriage tend to arise from putting ourselves at the center of the marriage and not God. 15:09 – Segment 2 John agrees with James! They begin the discussion of the role of husbands in the family. Ephesians 5 is discussed. The definition of marriage is connected to the gospel and the picture of Christ and the church. Husbands are discussed in the context of the Garden of Eden. That original sin turned the order of everything turned upside down. 33:56 – Segment 3 What is the church’s role in a marriage? A brief discussion on love and how it is a verb, and not a feeling. The feelings of love comes from the verb. Church needs to be discipling people on how to be husbands and wives.
