The Mariners want to sign a new 30-year lease on Safeco Field, but first they want the county to pony up $180 million for "necessary improvements" to the stadium. The question is, will the county actually pay the money? Could the M's actually leave if they don't get their way. Former Auburn quarterback Stan White joins the show with an in-depth look at the Tigers, and his biggest concerns about the Dawgs from an Auburn perspective. Kyle Seager has gotten a lot of criticism of late, but is it justified? His numbers have been pretty bad, not just for a week or a month, but for an entire season. New Seahawks wide receiver spends a few minutes talking with Dick Fain from the VMAC.
Mariners win last night, Cano gets his first home run since returning, and Diaz got his 48th save of the year. He's only the third player to get 100 saves in his first three years in the league. Right now, he's right on pace to tie the all-time record for most saves in a season with 62. Based on his performance so far, the M's will need to win about 24 of their last 36 games in order to give Diaz the chance to save 15 and break the record. Can he do it? Softy and Dick wager on it. Felix pitched last night, and you pretty much saw what you wanted to see from his performance. If you think he's going to make a comeback, there were enough good innings to give you hope. If you think he's done, the third inning might have proven your point. The question still remains, what to do with him now. Mark Murphy of 247Sports takes a look at the Auburn Tigers ahead of the game against UW next weekend in Atlanta. He's got some thoughts on Auburn, and on the stadium itself.
The poll results are coming in as we try to find out who are you more disappointed in? Robinson Cano or Earl Thomas? The Earl Thomas holdout story hasn't gotten as much attention as one might expect. Softy is pretty sure he knows why. Mariners bench coach Manny Acta joins the show to discuss all things Mariners. Textimonials answer the question: Cano or Thomas?
The first Husky game is just over a week away, and we're still trying ti figure out what we can expect from the team. We're likely to have more confidence in the defense, but anything could happen. If there's ever a time to step up, it'll be the Auburn game. Pete Carroll spoke today. We play the audio and give our thoughts. BREAKING NEWS: Mike Leake will not start tonight's game due to illness. Instead, Nick Vincent, who has never started a game, will start tonight. We play America's favorite game show, You Don't Know Dick! We hear from Scott Servais and set tonight's lineups on Baseball's Heritage Pre-Game Show. Tod Leiweke joins us with architect Shaun Mason of CAA ICON to discuss the design of the new arena, and the vision for the neighborhood on Tuesdays with Tod.
Softy and Dick are both back today, broadcasting from Jimmy's on First before the start of tonight's Mariners vs. Astros game. Speaking of the M's, they lost two out of three games to the Dodgers, and once again, the opposing fanbase managed to take over the stadium. Now begins one of the most critical series of the year as they take on Houston. We'll probably know a lot more about where this team stands by Wednesday. The Hawks' second pre-season game was Saturday. Yeah, they didn't look very motivated, but there were flashes of solid play early in the game. It's just pre-season after all. We didn't really learn much. The AP have released their pre-season poll and the Dawgs are at number six. It's the first time they've been ranked this highly since 1997.
Jon Ryan is no longer a Seahawk after asking to be released. It seemed pretty clear that he wasn't going to be on the team much longer, and hopefully he can land another gig somewhere in the league. He's been with the Hawks for ten years. Todd Kalas, the voice of the Astros, and son of Harry Kalas (not Harry Carray) joins the show to give the Houston perspective on the big series with the M's. Bill Krueger joins us to talk Mariners baseball. We get his thoughts on Felix, Elias starting yesterday, resting Marco Gonzales, and more. Textimonials react to Softy's awkward mistake during the Todd Kalas interview.
The Sounders win yet again, crushing the Galaxy 5-0. The club's head coach Brian Schmetzer talks about the win, the team's ability to get hot at the right time yet again this year, and the atmosphere they'll face as they head to Portland to take on the Timbers. We painstakingly scour the world for the best sound bytes from around sports and bring them to you in a segment we (sometimes) call Hey, Did You Hear That? Nigel Burton isn't all that impressed by Auburn. We talk about the upcoming game in Atlanta, and who might challenge the Dawgs in the Pac-12 North this year. We prepare you for the Mariners/Astros opening game tonight on Baseball's Heritage Pre-Game Show.
Dick is back from his Alaska cruise, and now Softy is out, so Terry Blount is back with us as we broadcast from Jimmy's on First. Nomar Garciaparra, former baseball player now working for the Dodgers joins the show to set up this weekend's interleague series between LA and the Mariners. He explains his involvement with EL1, designed to help developing young athletes. We go In House with Chuck Powell for a discussion about the state of the Mariners.
Eric Williams covers the Chargers for ESPN. He joins us to update us on the team ahead of tomorrow night's pre-season matchup against the Seahawks. We're joined by Corey Brock from The Athletic live from Jimmy's on First for his weekly look at the Mariners as they continue to battle back into a wildcard spot. Textimonials decide whether Felix's relief appearance showed enough to earn him another start.
Sounders midfielder talks about the team's ability to bounce back following an abysmal start to the season. They haven't lost a match since July 4th. They'll face the L.A. Galaxy this weekend. On Hey, Did You Hear That?: JT The Brick wants to keep Barry Bonds out of the Hall of Fame, Andrew McCutchen describes what it's like to be an outfielder during a baseball brawl, and more. We find out what Terry Blount is looking for during tomorrow night's pre-season game against the Chargers. Prosise is on thin ice. We set the lineups and hear from Scott Servais before the M's take on the Dodgers on Baseball's Heritage Pre-Game Show.
Braves rookie Ronald Acuna is having a solid rookie season. In fact, he's having a great season. Acuna homered in five straight games and was looking to make it six, until he was plunked by Marlins pitcher Jose Urena. There doesn't seem to be much doubt that Acuna was hit on purpose, but is it justifiable to hit a batter just because he's good? Where's the line when it comes to hitting guys at the plate? It's kind of strange to claim that the player making the biggest impact at training camp is a punter, but in terms of guys in the 2018 class for the Seahawks, Michael Dickson is definitely making the biggest impact. Now with Baldwin out for a few weeks and Penny also out, we need to find out who our big play makers are on the offense. Diaz is unquestionably one of the best pitchers in the game this year; definitely the top closer, but he's going to have an uphill battle to climb to win the Cy Young. A closer hasn't even been in consideration for several years, and to make matters worse, playing on the West Coast means most people back East never even get to see him play. It's going to take baseball writers and others publicly making a case for him to get him the recognition he deserves.
Terry Blount gives his thoughts on Jalen Ramsey commenting on virtually every quarterback in the league. It's amazing how we, as Seahawks fans, came to appreciate this attitude from players when Richard Sherman was on our team. Bruce Feldman gives us the latest on the situation at Ohio State, and looks ahead to the 2018 season. Textimonials react to the first two hours of the show.
Former Mariner Bret Boone joins the show to discuss Diaz's tough road to winning the Cy Young, and whether it's acceptable to plunk a hitter just for being good. KJ Wright talks to Softy from the VMAC. He explains why he decided to show up to training camp instead of holding out for a bigger contract. Ryan Fowler of Tide 102.9 in Tuscaloosa has the 'Bama fan's perspective on the UW vs. Auburn game, and some thoughts on Brandon Kaho.
Tony Softli continues to fill in for Dick Fain as we all continue to fight our way through the smoke that has enveloped everything. One would imagine bad air quality like this would be reason enough to move practice inside, but it was business as usual at the VMAC Rashaad Penny is in Philadelphia getting his finger worked on. Reports are that the surgery went well. Don't they always go well though? Tony recalls an incident involving a player when he was with Carolina when it did not go as well. James Paxton was hit in the forearm and is on the 10-day disabled list. Adam thinks he should toughen up. Ian Furness talked to Pete Carroll earlier this afternoon. We listen to the interview and react to it.
The Mariners just wrapped up a 12-inning day game in Oakland, and they won! Dee Gordon hit a two-run homer in the top of the 12th, and Edwin ?Diaz closed it out. We go In House with Bucky Jacobsen to talk about the game, and the team's position heading into the last 40 games. We talk to Petros Papadakis in a segment that's even more off the rails than usual. Textimonials react to the rollercoaster ride of emotions the M's are taking us on.
