EP 159 - Prevention and Reversal of the Cognitive Decline of Alzheimer's | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: Unknown

Alzheimer’s disease can and should be prevented. Dr. Dale Bredesen explains how.In recent years, Alzheimer's disease has affected more and more people and it’s hitting at an earlier age. It’s the third leading cause of death in the United States. Two-thirds of Alzheimer's patients are women. As recently as a few years ago, there was no hope for people diagnosed with Alzheimer's disease. However, recent research shows that those who come in early can have a very good prognosis. The key is prevention and early detection.  In addition to genetic testing, adults age 45 and older should have conversations with their physician about lifestyle factors that can cause Alzheimer’s. They should also start getting regular cognoscopies, a test used to evaluate the risk factors that can cause neuro-degenerative diseases like Alzheimer's.  Dr. Dale Bredesen explains that a healthy plant-based diet that’s mildly ketogenic, stress management, and regular sleep patterns can help prevent Alzheimer’s and other neuro-degenerative diseases. Listen as Dr. Dale Bredesen joins Dr. Taz to discuss the prevention of Alzheimer’s disease.

EP 158 - Calling All Martyr Moms: The Power of Walking | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: Unknown

Regular walks with friends can help women reduce loneliness and the risk of heart disease. We’re experiencing a loneliness crisis in our country. A recent study showed that 73% of women admit to feeling lonely. We’re simultaneously facing a fitness and wellness crisis. Despite the fact that we have more access to information about how to stay healthy than ever before, we’re having trouble turning that knowledge into action.  The solution to both of these issues might be simpler than you think — establishing a regular walking practice with other women. Studies have shown that women who walk regularly with friends are 2.5 times less likely to often feel lonely. A regular walking practice also reduces your risk of high blood pressure, high cholesterol, dementia, heart disease, diabetes, osteoporosis and several types of cancer.  Listen as 99 Walks founder Joyce Shulman joins Dr. Taz to discuss regular communal walking.

EP 157 - Are Your Beliefs Hijacking Your Life? | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: Unknown

Stop running on autopilot and learn how to lead an extraordinary life.Every person has the potential to lead an extraordinary life and become an extraordinary leader, parent, professional, or spouse. But, often our subconscious mind gets in our way and holds us back. The way our subconscious mind operates is established by the age of seven, so our brain is essentially functioning on code written by a seven-year-old. In order to find your calling and be the shaper of your life, not a victim of your circumstances, you need to stop living on autopilot and actively re-write the code — and your beliefs. This starts with looking internally and honestly examining your beliefs. You need to take responsibility for the way you’ve been living  and learn to reconstruct your beliefs to become the person you’d like to be. And Darren Gold explains how to do that in 10 minutes a day. Listen as Darren joins Dr. Taz to discuss how to live an extraordinary life.

EP 155 - Having a "Limitless" Approach to Life | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: Unknown

When we learn research from brain science and education, we can live in a more free and “limitless” way.New evidence in brain science contradicts much of what we’ve learned in the past and were taught in school. Namely, we now know that our brains are plastic, so they are constantly changing as we learn. It was once thought that every person was born with certain gifts and certain people were more inclined to be good at math or the arts. However, this new research suggests that everyone is capable of learning and succeeding at anything. Unfortunately, many institutions, including schools and boardrooms are still functioning in the old-school mode, which keeps many girls from succeeding at the same rate as boys in the areas of STEM—despite the fact that they have the same innate potential to succeed. Dr. Jo Boaler shares tips on how to make the classroom and boardroom a better environment for women and girls to succeed.   Listen as Dr. Boaler joins Dr. Taz to discuss neuroplasticity and limitless learning.

Find out how you can merge the worlds of holistic living and plastic surgery. With the prevalence of social media, we often see images of celebrities and influencers with perfect skin and bodies. This has altered our perception of beauty and age, and many women feel like they can’t keep up.  EP 153 - How to Use Ayurveda to Improve Your Health and Wellness | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: Unknown

Learn how a modern twist on the world's oldest health system can improve your overall health.Ayurveda is the world’s oldest health system. It is the sister science of yoga and focuses on the mind-body connection. The system helps individuals find balance of mind and body through proper nutrition, self-care, seasonal eating, and daily practices.  After traditional diets left Sahara Rose with a slew of health issues, including entering perimenopause at the age of 21, she rediscovered Ayurveda and realized that with some modernization, it can be an effective health system for many women today. At its core, Ayurveda states that every person is made of five basic elements found in the universe: space, air, fire, water and earth. The varying combination of those elements create three doshas or energy forces: Vata, Pitta, and Kapha.  By altering your diet based on which type of dosha you are, you can find balance and improve your overall health.  Listen as Sahara Rose joins Dr. Taz to discuss Ayurveda.

EP 152 - Own Your Self | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: Unknown

Holistic psychology helps certain individuals step away from medication and treat chronic disease and anxiety naturally.Much like holistic medicine, holistic psychiatry takes a step back and asks the question, “why?” Psychiatrists look at the root cause of various symptoms to see if something like a micronutrient deficiency or inter-generational trauma is causing a person's pain or anxiety. By digging deeper and finding answers, psychiatrists are able to skip medication for certain patients and take a more holistic, natural approach to treatment. In her recent book, Own Your Self, Dr. Kelly Brogan explains how many individuals -- if not all -- struggle with victim consciousness. People are comfortable living in the victim mentality about things big and small and feel validated by being right about being wronged. She explains how people can step out of that trap and inhabit a worldview that cultivates self-love and personal liberation through forgiveness, visualization techniques, and mind/body connection exercises.  Listen as Kelly joins Dr. Taz to discuss holistic psychology.

EP 151 - The Source: Secrets of the Universe, Science of the Brain | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: Unknown

Learn how you can improve your life by training your brain to become more resilient. As we become more connected digitally, we’re less connected emotionally and socially. We’re constantly switched on and inundated with information, which elevates our stress levels. That can leave people feeling defeated. Without mastering your emotions, connecting to your body and your intuition, and staying motivated, you will start to feel like a victim of your own life rather than having agency over it.  Dr. Tara Swart discusses her book, which touches on the six languages your brain uses to create resilience and the four-step process for rewiring your brain to become more resilient. Through focused attention, action boards, deliberate practice and accountability, individuals can create a more agile brain with leads to the manifestation of their goals.  Listen as Dr. Swart joins Dr. Taz to discuss resilience and brain health.

EP 150 - Skinterrupt: Looking Deeper to Overcome Skin Issues | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: Unknown

Struggling to resolve skin issues? The answer might be in your gut. There is a direct connection between gut health and skin health. If you suffer from a chronic skin rash and are struggling to find a solution, you may need to look to your gut. If topical creams aren’t solving your issues, it’s likely because the root cause of the problem is much deeper in your body. Much like leaky gut, a person can suffer from leaky skin. When the body doesn’t get the proper nutrients, the liver becomes overburdened and struggles to clean the toxins out of the body. So, the toxins are released through the skin, causing rashes and eczema. Jennifer Fugo shares her story and explains how she cleared up her skin by altering her diet. She offers tips on how to identify skin issues and solve them with supplements and diet changes.  Listen as Jennifer joins Dr. Taz to discuss the connection between your gut and your body’s largest organ—your skin.

EP 149 - Listful Living: How to Get More Done and Be Less Stressed with List Making | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: Unknown

Learn why making lists is good for your health and how to make a list that sets you up for success. In an attempt to “have it all” and please everyone, many women become so stressed that it starts to affect their health. However, the solution to dissolving stressors might be simpler than you’d think. Paula Rizzo explains how making an intentional list can change your life, alleviate stress, and improve your overall health.  We often let our to-do lists become overcrowded with the things we want to do, the things we feel obligated to do, and the things our ego tells us we have to do in order to make sure something gets done properly. But, the first bucket is the only one that’s necessary. Paula suggests setting your top priorities for your life at this moment in time. Everything that gets added to your to-do list should serve that goal, understanding that your priorities will change over time. She also suggests adopting an abundance mindset and accepting that good things will come your way again in the future, so you don’t have to do everything now.  Listen as Paula joins Dr. Taz to discuss how making lists can be good for your health.

EP 148 - Detox the World | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: Unknown

Learn how to lose weight, gain clarity, and get energized with deep cellular cleansing and colon hydrotherapy.Healthy atoms are negatively charged ions, meaning that there are more electrons on the outer belt than there are protons in the nucleus. Another word for this is alkaline. Positively ionically charged atoms, on the other hand, are acidic.   Our tissues are composed of negatively charged atoms. A person therefore should be eating alkaline foods, because acidic foods can alter the body’s natural state. The degree to which a food is acidic is the degree to which it has been processed and packaged. When we consume acidic foods, it adheres to our alkaline tissue and we only eliminate 40-60% of that acidic food.  Natalia Rose explains how we can reset our bodies, lose weight, gain clarity and feel better with a two-step process. The first phase is deep cellular cleansing, in which you ingest leafy greens to reconstitute and draw up acidic matter. The second step is the elimination of  acidic matter through colon hydrotherapy. Listen as Natalia joins Dr. Taz to discuss deep cellular cleansing and colon hydrotherapy.

Lose weight and eliminate dangerous liver fat in just 28 days.If you notice a change in your body composition and are gaining weight where you don’t want it, you could be undergoing a metabolic change. And, that change might be caused by your liver. Even those who don’t formally have fatty liver disease may be heading towards it or have markers for it.  EP 147 - Keeping Your Kids Healthy: An Integrative Approach to Pediatrics | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: Unknown

Learn why integrative medicine offers a more holistic approach to pediatrics.Integrative pediatrics offers a more well-rounded approach to pediatric care. It combines traditional Western treatments like medications with supplements or homeopathic solutions. As we continue to introduce more and more chemicals into our food and our environment, slow-grade chronic diseases are becoming more prevalent in children. While Western medicine acts as a band-aid for symptoms, integrative pediatrics looks at the "why" of the disease. Doctors are able to identify and reverse the root cause of the issue and come up with natural, long-term solutions.  Integrative pediatrician Dr. Joel Warsh explains why parents should look to diet, exercise, stress, sleep, and environment to address issues such as eczema, autoimmune conditions, gut problems, sensory issues, and neurological conditions like Autism and ADHD. Listen as Dr. Warsh joins Dr. Taz to discuss integrative pediatrics.

 EP 146 - Resilience and Well-Being | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: Unknown

Dr. Rick Hanson shares steps you can take every day to improve your or your child's resilience and well-being.Be mindful. Fake it until you make it. Focus on the positive. We hear so many phrases and instructions on how to be resilient and have a positive outlook on life, but according to Dr. Rick Hanson, it all comes down to neuroscience. He explains how neurons that fire together, wire together, and he lays out practical steps you can take to definitively develop inner calm, self-worth, and emotional intelligence.  By taking 5-10 minutes a day to sit with your positive and negative thoughts and turn them into feelings, you’ll build up strength over time that you can draw on in times of need. This practice works for both adults and children.  Dr. Hanson encourages people to sit with their emotions after something positive happens to make sure they permanently store those feelings of accomplishment in the brain. When you have a negative experience, he recommends a three-step process. Be. Sit with the experience and try to view it with compassion and mindfulness. Let go. Release the tension from your body and disengage with any beliefs that aren’t good for you or for others.  Let in. Replace the negative feelings you’ve released with positive alternatives. Listen as Dr. Hanson joins Dr. Taz to discuss how to become more resilient.
