Pride Of Detroit - NFL Lions podcast

There's plenty to talk on this week's PODcast. The Joe Louis Arena is closing and the crew revel in the memories. They also get into the upcoming POD crew meeting in Philadelphia for the draft and the new Lions jerseys to be unveiled on Thursday. Next it's on to discuss the draft strategy for the Lions again: now ideas are being floated about wide receivers. Will the Lions need to draft one soon to have a long term solution in the wideout? With Ryan Mathews and Alex Reno out, the PODcast turns to more staff members to fill the void. Kent Lee Platte (@MathBomb) joins the show to share his NFL Draft knowledge and insights using his RAS metric and all the other tools in his toolbox. The focus is on linebackers as the draft approaches and the Lions sit in desperate need for a playmaker in that unit.  The crew also breaks down the latest Lions news of the week, including former defensive coordinator Gunther Cunningham's departure and new NFL rule changes. Lions quarterback Matthew Stafford came into his own in the 2016 season, and yet the end of the season may have marred his progress in the eyes of the national media. We couldn't fit in a mailbag on the last episode of the PODcast because of so much NFL free agency action, so we correct that now! Chris is tipsy, Ryan is ready to go, and Jeremy has bad jokes. Free agency began for the NFL on Thursday and the Lions wasted no time putting on the big moves, signing Rick Wagner and TJ Lang to bolster the offensive line, while also making several other signings on both sides of the ball. The Pride Of Detroit guys break down each signing and what their roles will be for the Lions moving forward. The team is now also hurting at linebacker, in part because of a surprise release of DeAndre Levy - is this a signal the Lions will absolutely be taking a linebacker in the draft? They look ahead to what could come later in free agency, how the draft has changed and why Lions fans don't need to worry about how much money Stafford might get.

The NFL scouting combine wrapped on Monday and the Pride Of Detroit crew is back again to break it all down. With a whole weekend of track and field action and measurables there's plenty to discuss of the NFL hopefuls, and Jeremy presents a list of five names he was impressed with from the weekend that he thinks the Lions should consider. The guys give one more word on Bob Quinn and the Joe Mixon comments, and Jeremy presents a four-point plan for NFL free agency and the Detroit Lions. In the mailbag, questions about the best X-Men to draft for football and whether Arian Foster can fend off those wolves.

We spun this last one off from the latest PODcast. As promised, the Listcast continues with a very important subject. The Ringer put out their top 50 fast food items in America and we were naturally compelled to respond. Listcast returned to the top ten format and welcomed back Alex Reno as the POD quartet seeks to answer the great questions of what you should get when you're heading through the drive-thru. The biggest event for these internet scouts comes, the scouting combine, and Alex Reno, resident Pride Of Detroit draft expert and Twitter scout, explains what you should be watching at the combine and what you can safely ignore. The guys also talk about Toledo's Kareem Hunt and put the spotlight on his game and why he might be a mid-round fit for the Detroit Lions. They also talk about free agency and the franchise tags being applied, and answer mailbag questions and fight about steak. We misplaced the episode, which is why this one is coming out so late in the week. Alex Reno finally rejoins the show after a long hiatus. Free agency is on the table as the guys talk about the big names that the Lions could make plays for. Ryan makes the points that so much hinges on Anquan Boldin's decision, and we break down what that might look like and mean depending on what happens. We continue our positional reviews with the linebacker unit, the despised goat of the team last year, and whether or not Tahir Whitehead is the right fit and if DeAndre Levy can return to form. We also compensate for a late release with a supersized mailbag talking about flat earth, Ameer Abdullah and our recent trip to Grand Rapids. Ryan, Chris and Jeremy discuss the early rumblings of the offseason, building upon talk of offensive line needs in free agency to discuss the free agency period as a whole and what the Detroit Lions will need when the time comes in about a month. They also review the defensive line, a unit that was supposed to be full of promise but fell flat. What's the future for guys like A'Shawn Robinson, Kerry Hyder, Ezekiel Ansah and Tyrunn Walker? There's also plenty to talk about in the upcoming draft as they play around with draft tools, and Ryan talks about why he's fine if the Lions take a tight end in the first round. They close out the show with a fun mailbag, as always, and talk about other sports and teams they like to follow as the offseason deprives them of football.

Jeremy, Chris and Ryan talk about the greatest comeback in Super Bowl history as the New England Patriots complete a return from down 28-3 to win Super Bowl LI in overtime. They discuss the self-inflicted wounds of Atlanta and other important storylines from the game. They then get into continuing their Detroit Lions positional review with running backs, a depleted unit that suffered injury throughout 2016. Next up is a short listcast of the best Super Bowls in their lifetimes. Finally, a mailbag with plenty of goodies and Chris gets mad at Jeremy.

The preview podcast makes an early return as Chris and Ryan, plus Jeremy, decide to sit down and talk about Sunday's Super Bowl matchup between the Atlanta Falcons and the New England Patriots. They break down the storylines and worry that the Pats have already swallowed up the whole press and their attention, and Chris lays out why a Patriots win doesn't "stick it" to Roger Goodell or the NFL. They also get back to the Detroit Lions momentarily to talk about the logo change and the new jerseys coming as Detroit ditches the black. They also make their picks against the spread and get mad about euchre.

It's Super Bowl week and the Detroit Lions are in the offseason. Luckily, we had another interview in mind and we reached out and got ahold of Golden Tate, who joins Pride Of Detroit for his second interview.
