 Ep. 92 - Max Perlich (pt. 1) | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 01:20:41

Today's guest is the great contemporary actor, conversationalist, auto-enthusiast Max Perlich. Many will recognize Max from his large body of film work - totally upwards to 100 films. Including true American classics like 'Drugstore Cowboy', 'Beautiful Girls', 'Blow', and 'Gleaming The Cube'. In part of a short on-going micro-series of conversations recorded with Max this particular one was recorded late into the night in an empty motel room somewhere in Los Angeles. Here, we dig into his childhood, his father, a well respected radio interviewer of the 60's/70's, Martin Perlich, had artists like Stanley Clark and John Mayall as regular guests to entertain young Max. I also ask about some of his lesser known rolls. Max has long been associated with the Beastie Boys, I open and close the show with some rare production work he did on Hurricane's "The Hurra" album from 1994. Enjoy, subscribe if you like. Part 2 to follow down the line! Sorry for the long intro.

 Ep. 91 - Subtitle | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 01:19:34

I bumped into Giovanni Marks/Subtitle at The Last Bookstore in DTLA and we decided now would be the time to record a conversation, so we walked across the street to Buzz Wine Beer shop. The employees were generous enough to let us post up and record - and this is that convo. It was awesome. http://getcrevlabs.com/ https://soundcloud.com/giovannimarks https://www.instagram.com/giovanni_marks

 Ep. 90 - Brandon B | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 01:39:44

Although the term has been used and abused for years, I'd say, Brandon B. is an underground legend. He was in probably the most beloved hip-hop group in Arizona history, Supermarket, which then spawned the relatively unknown yet very influential outfit, Gametightelectro. That group then birthed the name/concept of 'Gurp City', which in itself is a micro-movement through NorCal. In our conversation we chat about it all. Brandon finally just released his solo debut, which I urge you to buy here: https://gurpcitydigital.bandcamp.com/album/rhythmic-american-poetry - his cult/prank-comedy album 'Father Rick' is now available on Apple Music/iTunes and I strongly suggest finding that too. Thanks for listening please share with anyone you know that is into this scene & don't forget to subscribe!

 Ep. 88 - Oliver Wang | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 01:34:09

We're back! 'The House List' returns to form with guest Oliver Wang! The author / DJ / college professor sat with us (and recorded the talk!) in his South Pasadena studio, to talk writing, rap, and some lightweight immigration terminology-schooling. Truth be told, I most likely wouldn't have written a published word hadn't Oliver extended an invite to scribe 100-count 12" reviews for URB Magazine back in 1996. During his editorial tenure there he ushered in the likes of many an now-established writer. Oliver also has a great podcast called 'Heat Rocks' available where you can find podcasts, check for it! This episode features editing and tunes by Controller7. Enjoy, subscribe and many new episodes to follow! Apologies for the extended hiatus!

 Ep. 86 - Alias Tribute | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 00:34:52

co-produced by Controller7 /// Hello everyone. I put together this very special concert in Los Angeles on Mon, June 25th to remember Alias of the Anticon collective and raise some money at the same time to send over to his family. For those unaware of his work - Alias was a really talented producer, emcee and engineer. He was also great Dad to two, a husband of over 25 years, a son, brother - and a very cool, easy going dude. Super funny and chill. Could be friends with anyone and also never intimated by anyone. He released several albums under his Alias name - all worth checking out, all a bit different than the next. He was definitely on some progressive, electronic music hip-hop tip. He was at his core like many of us - a passionate hip-hop head. If you or any friends can come - you can buy tickets here: https://www1.ticketmaster.com/event/090054B1051A8E71 - I'd like to sell this out in advance so don't hesitate! Also - in this special mini-episode the Anticon affiliated producer/DJ/Dad - Controller 7 - contributed a mix/vox to this. Enjoy and many more episodes to come! See you in LA

 Ep. 85 - Gideon + Nick Black (Lexicon) | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 01:32:02

Today's episode is with brothers Gideon and Nick Black formerly of the hip-hop duo Lexicon. Who released their first recorded material back in 1998, in the group they went by Big Oak and Nick Fury, respectfully. We hadn't seen one another in 10 years or more and recorded this in West L.A. in April of 2018. They recently created a collective named EXGF and remain very involved in the music industry. My directorial debut was also their first music video for the song 'Nikehead'. We recall in great detail the making of said video. They just opened a new website to commemorate the history of their group, which chronicles much of their journey. Hopefully this conversation will also act as a companion to that, which you can see here: http://www.lexicon.rip/chronological/ - The photo used I shot in Upstate NY in the year 2000 or 2001 with a Canon AE1, I don't recall the film, I think it was in January. The intro and outro songs are from their second album 'It's the L!' - I did the cuts on both tracks. Enjoy!

 Ep. 83 - Morris | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 01:04:05

My dude Philesciono Canty is the guest on this incredible episode of The House List. Thank you for tuning in. Philesciono Canty aka MORRIS aka P.Morris is an super lowkey dude that is one of my favorite producers/composers in the game right now and for a while now. It's also a treat to chop it up with him. We recorded this conversation in Los Angeles. A lot of his music and collaborations can be found here: https://bcmg.bandcamp.com - he is one of those really versatile music-producers that can do both highly-progressive future-composition stuff as well as ratchet-trap-type-beat. Check out his music and his most current works with Maal, A Goomba. Don't forget to subscribe to this podcast and if you listen on SoundCloud please re-post this episode deep into the Clouds!

 Ep. 82 - Burger Records (Sean & Lee) | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 01:47:16

Sean Bohrman and I went to college together in a small California town called Arcata. No, not Arcadia, that is in Los Angeles. Arcata at the very top of that state. We graduated from the Humboldt State University's School of Journalism in the early 2000's. We worked at the school paper, The Lumberjack. Where I contributed album review and music features and Sean madly penned manifestos. We had both long since decided what we wanted from life long before college, but to incubate and trip-out at Humboldt was a purely rad coincidence. Last time I saw him was 2012 SXSW and the last time I saw Lee, his partner in the Burger Records empire was at Third Man in Nashville with People's Temple. We recorded this at their awesome, brick and mortar store in Fullerton, California. It was fun and really made me miss California, because everyone was stoned and happy. Was a very fun episode to record - Burger Records site is: http://burgerrecords.com - lots of incredible releases. Sean's on-going radio show is here: https://www.mixcloud.com/burgerrecords - buy tickets to Burger Boogaloo '18 here: http://burgerboogaloo.com/

 Ep. 81 - Double K (PUTS) | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 01:47:38

Special 4/20 Edition of The House List with my real good buddy and longtime hip-hop junkie a-alike DJ Double K aka LA Mike! Often considered a man of mystery by many of the faithful followers of People Under The Stairs, Mike and I sat down on the porch at his house with some old friends and shot the gift about his life for a few. Hope you dig this. If you smoke, you may roll one up to it now. If not, you can just sit back and catch a contact. Pick up that LA Mike album which just dropped where-ever you can find it and check PUTS when they play a show near your town, over at: puts.band - don't forget to mash that subscribe button and leave a donation if ya feeling generous!

 Ep. 80 - Eligh | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 01:58:51

Unsung could easily be one way to describe the very special guest for our show's 80th episode. Los Angeles native son, master-emcee, ASR-10 pro-producer Eligh generously sat with us out in Van Nuys as we delved deep into his story & catalog (focusing primarily on his extensive solo catalog). From as young as age 15, Eligh's rapp was a gripping, vivid double entendre, steamed in reference, innuendo and triple-time insanity. With a distinctive ability rap couplets on couplets while sounding perfectly articulate. We try and crack that nugget. As a latch-key kid with innate skill who would create some of the late 90's 'West Coast Underground' era's more distinctive yet lowkey works ('The March', 'Everyday', '1998', 'Makeshift Message', 'Nightlife', etc etc) all whilst couch surfing. The conversation is more an account of the journey leading to present day - you'll hear it. Eligh just created a Pateron to engage with fans, providing them a long-running series of exclusive songs & art all to be found here: patreon.com/eligh and elighmusic.com - enjoy the talk and thank you for the continued support. Spread the word to your folks!

 Ep. 79 - Podcast Update + Milo (pt. 2) | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 00:16:04

After a week of producing episodes in Los Angeles, we're back on track with this short update-episode. We've set up a donation function as well, so if you are a fan of this show you too can help by assisting in the production of our show. Every bit will continue to keep this show alive and progressing forward. The second half of this shorty is a catch up with House List alum MILO and SAFARI AL, recorded in person at their new record store in Biddeford, Maine called Soul Folks. Check out the blog here: http://www.soulfolks.org/ - but go to it if you are ever in the area. It's a dope spot, very chill, with many many cool tapes and vibes. Run by artists, worthy of your support and knowledge.

 Ep. 78 - Thurston Moore (2007) | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 01:47:49

For this episode of The House List, I dug or rather stumbled deep into the ancient files of 2007. On the evening of 11/2/07 I interviewed art-rock, noise-pioneer Thurston Moore for the cover of RE:UP Magazine. The conversation was recorded on a land-line into a Mini-Disc recorder and then transcribed by hand, later published as the 13th issue of RE:UP Magazine. This would mark my last written piece of journalism until I started the podcast, so since that isn't written (besides these long-winded bios), this conversation was my last piece of written music writing. It was over 10,000 words when printed. Shortly there after RE:UP closed its doors and I began working at the Knitting Factory in NYC, when that closed I began work as a booking agent and now run my own agency and do this podcast as a fun hobby. Thurston Moore's art and input has always been something I've greatly admired and I found when re-listening to this talk. The photos were taken by Angela Boatwright at the old location of Max Fish (a beloved bar in the LES of NYC). Sorry for any tape-hiss/phone-noise, CJ did his best in the editing/engineering process. Special thanks to Ryan Sawyer
