WC. 014: Excerpt from Maturing Spiritual Love | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 18:40

Welcome to The Wisdom of Compassion, a podcast presented by White Conch Dharma Center. For today’s episode we will be featuring an excerpt from a teaching by Domo Geshe Rinpoche, the Spiritual Director of White Conch, titled “Maturing Spiritual Love”. In the section we’ll be listening to, Rinpoche is giving commentary on a traditional Buddhist prayer of refuge. The prayer as recited in the White Conch community is: In order to obtain perfect enlightenment, I vow from now on to go for refuge to the Guru and Three Precious Gems, and not abandon sentient beings. I will practice the six perfections. Over the years, Rinpoche has spoken in depth on various elements of this prayer: From exploring the phrase “perfect enlightenment”, to explaining the Three Precious Gems (which are the Buddha, Dharma, and Sangha), and even addressing the true meaning of the word Guru and the wariness that surrounds it in the west. Each segment discussed by Rinpoche adds to a more comprehensive understanding of the prayer, and here we will be exploring the word abandon and its associated connotations. Enjoy!  WC. 013: Enlightened Activism | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 33:06

For this episode, we will be featuring a teaching by Domo Geshe Rinpoche titled “Enlightened Activism”. As political season comes into full swing in the United States, people around the country are getting involved in a variety of capacities. True activists, Rinpoche says, need to be able to feel the energy of the situation and determine what can be done and what cannot be done. She then presents an amazing exercise to help us gauge our personal capabilities for the situations we might encounter. Rinpoche closes the teaching reminding us of the tireless efforts of the Bodhisattva heroes and we are left to admire and aspire to the ideals of the Bodhisattvas and their enlightened activism.  WC. 010: The Blossoming of Refuge | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 55:37

For this episode, we are publishing one of Rinpoche’s teachings from 2010 about the Buddhist concept of Refuge. In this talk, Rinpoche looks at two ways to go for refuge: the first is going for refuge out of a desire for safety and the second is going for refuge out of a compassionate wish. There is a powerful segment where Rinpoche likens the vulnerability and delicate innocence of someone in the process of awakening to a butterfly emerging from it’s cocoon. This really resonated with me and I hope you are able to connect with this idea as well. Enjoy!
