Interview With 60+ Masters Crossfit World Champion Scott Olson | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 1:26:04

Scott Olson is a three-time Crossfit Games Masters world champion! In this interview I conducted with Scott you'll learn so much about the mind and methods of a three-peat, gold-medal MASTERS world champion. As of this writing Scott is 62 years young but you'll hear him say he hates to even think about the number. As he trains with and competes against younger athletes he says he feels their age, as good or better than he did 30 years ago in so many ways, until, that is, he looks in the mirror (he says with a chuckle). Whether you're an avid Crossfitter or a Crossfit neophyte my interview with Scott is going to be beneficial and educational. The answer to these questions and so many more are given as Scott and I discuss his history, mindset and methods. What's his history with athletics or exercise prior to Crossfit? Who and what got him started with Crossfit? What got him hooked and what does he like most about Crossfit now? How many days a week does he train? How long each day? As a Crossfit trainer what does Scott recommend for new people and those not wanting to compete but just get in better shape? What does a typical week of training look like for Scott? We go through each day of the week. For the non-Crossfitters what do these terms mean? EMOM, WOD, O-lift, Strength, Skill, Metcon and more How does Scott feel about maxing out with heavy singles? Is Crossfit dangerous? Scott shares his views on this controversial hot-button topic Is there anyone who should NOT do Crossfit? How are physical fitness and mental/emotional fitness connected? What equipment does Scott like to use (belts, shoes, gloves etc)? As a Masters competitor does Scott have to work around things he didn't have to think about when he was 30? What is Scott's favorite WOD and why? Interested in possibly trying Crossfit? Scott shares what a new person should look for. Is Scott going for a four peat at the 2015 Games? "Life is so much more rewarding as an active person versus a passive person just sitting watching TV." - Scott Olson Grab this 1 hour and 26 minute MP3 interview and be prepared to be inspired, educated and motivated no matter what chronological age you are today!

Kathy Canaday of Memorial Medical Center Loses 90 and Gains a New Life | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 34:54

Kathy Canaday, an Admissions Manager at Memorial Medical Center in Springfield Illinois, lost 90 pounds with the Lifestyle180 course online at Leanness Lifestyle University! At 5'10", 46-year-young Mother of two Kathy was almost resigned to just being "big boned" and destined to either a life of obesity or bariatric surgery. Kathy was a weight fighter in every sense of the phrase; she had been overweight quite literally from her earliest memories. She says "There wasn't one time in my life when I was NOT overweight." Weight was a daily concern and she felt held back from participating in life because of it. Kathy says she'd tried about every diet you can imagine in the past; bananas only, grapefruits only, Weight Watchers, "every sad diet I could get my hands on." She said she even resorted to creams and wraps at one point. Prior to joining Lifestyle180 Kathy had peaked at 276 pounds in 2009 wearing a tight size 24. In 2013 she discussed bariatric surgery with her insurance company at work. She felt at her wits end but decided to give the online Lifestyle180 course a try mostly because her co-worker Jenn Davis had lost more than 130 pounds with the Leanness Lifestyle University courses. Kathy says she couldn't believe the transformation of Jenn on the outside but also Jenn's inner transformation and improved confidence. Jenn, the same height as Kathy, was in-her-face evidence that formerly big girls aren't necessarily big boned. With her bariatric backup-plan in place, avoiding her doctor and on the blood-pressure watch list with her doc, Kathy began Lifestyle180 about 240 pounds (a tight size 22), but as she says, on the upswing once again toward what she says would have quite certainly been her heaviest weight ever. Kathy says, at first, she just thought that if she could get to 200 pounds that would have been a major milestone since she was "big boned." One year later, now the lowest weight in her adult life, Kathy weighs 150 pounds. Although she couldn't even imagine weighing 150 when she first began, she's down 90 from her start with Lifestyle180 and wearing size 6 jeans! Shopping for clothes is a whole new experience now. Kathy says she can go into any place and pick things off the rack that look good instead of just finding something that fits and covers her up. Obviously thinner Kathy says it's about so much more than that for her. She can do anything, can stand in front of people and be okay, she's more centered knowing better who she is, she has more self-compassion and gratitude, is a better Mother, employee and person. Kathy says "I'm more in touch with it all." As someone who used to sit on the sidelines and watch others do things she's now the one running around the park, able to run with her daughter who's a track athlete in college. Kathy says she now has the freedom to go out and do whatever. She's also no longer worried about running into anybody out in public; she has more confidence believing in herself enough to just let people take her as she is. Kathy says she lived for years giving to others and pushing her own feelings back. By joining Lifestyle180 and working on herself, especially her emotional fitness, she now lives a much more enriching life with new confidence, happiness and every relationship she has also enriched. Kathy's advice to others who are presently where she once was is to take care of yourself first and enroll in the next Lifestyle180 course. "It's well worth the time and well worth the effort."

Stay At Home Mom Rachel Loses 50 Pounds From the Inside Out | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 43:27

Wife, stay-at-home Mom and book-cover designer Rachel Carpenter lost more than 50 pounds with Leanness Lifestyle University and says she feels a thousand times better on the inside than anything we see on the outside. For 20 years, since high school, Rachel fought her weight. She says the Freshman 15 for her were more like the Freshman 30. After graduating high school in the 145-150 range she reached a peak of 222 pounds at the age of 38. At that time, in addition to being far heavier than she wanted to be, she was also smoking a pack of cigarettes a day, drinking a giant bottle of rum every week, was on anti-depressants, had climbing blood pressure and just felt miserable. In 14 months Rachel lost about 10-15 pounds on her own. Then Rachel found Lifestyle180. She lost 50 pounds during Lifestyle180, an 18 week course, and maintained her weight during the most recent holidays. Today Rachel is a non-smoker, she has run four half-marathons, the most recent at a pace of under 10-minute miles, she's wearing a size 4 instead of 18, her blood pressure is excellent and her confidence has increased greatly. Rachel admits she had a lot of doubts before signing up for Lifestyle180 that first time. Rachel says she felt so bad prior to starting, had been trying so long on her own and failing, that she just didn't feel there was anywhere to go but up. She doubted whether she could do it. She even doubted that she'd be accepted into the course. She was concerned about the cost too since they are a one-income family. Ultimately, she pushed the enroll-now button, not so much because she believed in herself or felt she was worth it, but because she felt those closest to her deserved better from her. Now, as she leads and lives by example, the whole family benefits. Rachel says that she continues the journey not only for those who she loves and who love her but for herself. Now she matters too.. In the interview you'll hear Rachel get a little emotional as she thinks about someone listening to her interview and, knowing how good she feels now, reflecting back to how bad she felt when she started and knowing someone listening hasn't started yet and feels just as bad. Please listen to the 43-minute interview to hear Rachel's own words and advice about what to do. You will be inspired, you'll chuckle and you'll learn how Rachel faced her challenges head on to create the amazing success you see in the picture here but, as she says, 1000 times more on the inside.

Corrections Officer Jack Skrogstads 85-Pound Success Journey | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 34:38

Husband, Father and Lee County Correction's Officer Jack Skrogstad shares how he lost 85 pounds, improved his blood pressure, his relationship with his wife, his softball skills and even the ability to tie his own shoes! In this 34-minute interview Jack discusses how, between the ages of 24 and 48, he went from 170 pounds to a peak of 255 pounds. He was hypertensive, had a 42-inch waist, wore 2x shirts, hated the way he looked, felt he was cheating his wife out of the man she married and says he literally had to hold is breath and tie his shoes quickly because of his belly. Jack had participated loosely in Leanness Lifestyle University a few years ago through a partnership between his church and employer but, as he says in the interview, in July of 2013 he, for the first time, really embraced the educational components and committed to the Lifestyle180 course. Jack graduated from Lifestyle180, losing nearly 60 pounds and then continued in the next evolution beyond Lifestyle180 as well. In all Jack lost 85 pounds going from 255 to 170, a weight he's been maintaining for the past four months. Jack lost the weight in spite of working two jobs (57 hours a week) and being lured by the aroma of the McDonald's food he had to serve the inmates on a daily basis. An avid softball player Jack says it's so much easier now to pick up a ground ball, run bases and he recently turned a double into a triple and had an inside-the-park homerun! He feels more honorable in being the man his wife married, his blood pressure is normalized and it's no longer a race or a challenge to tie his shoes. Jack reiterates what he's been taught when people ask what he did to lose so much weight. He tells them it's 80% nutrition and you have to have a strong WHY but don't think doing just those two things is the best approach. Jack is quick to state that having the accountability along with the support and education of Lifestyle180 are important, especially in the beginning, for people who have struggled to lose the weight and keep it off. I hope you enjoy this no-nonsense, straightforward, yet inspirational interview.

Sharlene Washington Loses 50 Pounds and Bikes Across America! | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 50:42

Sharlene Washington, at the age of 61, lost 50 pounds with the Lifestyle180 program while preparing for the ultimate cross-country cycling challenge. She dipped the rear tire of her bicycle in the Pacific Ocean near San Diego, CA and began an epic 3,100 mile journey to St. Augustine, Florida. In this 50 minute interview Sharlene and I discuss the 3+ years of her life which led to this remarkable, transformational experience: At the age of 58, Sharlene was tricked by one of her daughters into a challenging first bicycle ride. That first 25-mile ride quickly turned into a love for cycling. With all 7 of her children grown, she decided it was time to do something special for herself. In preparation for the big trip, Sharlene rode more than 3000 miles during the 2012 calendar year. To her surprise, for all her effort, she only lost about 10 pounds that year. Then she found Lifestyle 180 and began the Lifestyle180 program because she knew that nutrition would make all the difference but didn't know what to do or how to do it. Sharlene lost 42 pounds in the Lifestyle180 course. Then she lost an additional 12 pounds during her 59-day trip across America. She was finally seeing the full benefits of her dedication! Sharlene rode EFM (Every Friggin' Mile) across America. Even still, 20 days after reaching the East Coast, she’s incredibly humble. You have to listen to the interview to hear Sharlene's story in her own words. You’ll even hear me arguing with Sharlene about whether or not her story is remarkable (or even noteworthy). It is! In the end, Sharlene wants you to be unafraid to make your own dreams happen. Just press play or download the interview MP3 and listen on your favorite device!

Mary Battin Loses 36 & Draws Out Her Inner Competitor | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 28:38

Mary Battin, a 50-year old from Illinois lost and kept off 36 pounds with Lifestyle 180! A busy, widowed Mother of two teenage boys, Mary works long hours as an Operations Manager for an upstart restaurant company. But nothing was going to stop her once she made her mind up that being 5'3" and weighing 150 pounds was no longer okay. Mary's history with weight was one of gaining the Freshman 15 in college and, gaining 65 pounds during pregnancy, and living most of her 30s in the 140 range and 40s in the 150s. She says she had gotten almost blind to where her weight was or what she looked like. She had tried Herbal Life, Weight Watchers and a few other programs losing some weight but always gaining it back each time. Finally in January of 2013 Mary had had enough and decided it was time to do something about her weight. She mentioned her goal to lose weight to a few close friends and one thing led to another. A friend of hers who had already lost 40 pounds with Lifestyle 180 strongly suggested she give it a try as did her trainer. That was all it took. Mary says when she began Lifestyle 180 in February of 2013 she had been suffering from migraine headaches about once a month, sinus infections every other month (causing her to be on antibiotics for what seemed like all the time) and, as an avid runner, she had been experiencing hip pain for months. She says she felt an almost immediate boost in her energy when she began the course. In all Mary started Lifestyle 180 weighing 147. Although her original goal was 120 pounds Mary graduated the course 20 weeks later weighing 111. Six months after graduating Lifestyle 180 Mary has maintained her graduation weight! As Mary got leaner and stronger, working closely with her personal trainer for strength-training programming, she competed in Tough Mudder and other mud-obstacle runs. She says it felt so good to first, be able to complete those runs, but secondly to be able to run and clear obstacles faster than many men and women 20 years her junior. Beyond competing in mud-obstacle runs Mary gave her competitive show-woman spirit a 180-degree difference in "flavor" by doing a bikini competition in November 2013. Mary says prior to getting in great shape with Lifestyle 180 she had no desire to compete in a bikini show nor did she think she'd feel good about it. No longer suffering from migraines, sinus infections or nagging hip pain, Mary says she plans to continue competing in both tough mudders and another physique competition - this time moving up to Figure which requires a bit more muscle than bikini. Give my 28-minute interview with Mary a listen. She has an infectiously positive and energetic personality and I believe, as she says, that you will feel even more confident that if she can lose the weight, keep it off and compete in opposite forms of sporting fun at the age of 50 you can too!

Dr. Deborah Johnson M.D. Proves It’s Never Too Late To Get In Shape! | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 38:28

Dr. Deborah Johnson M.D., at the age of 65, joined Lifestyle 180 and lost 62 pounds in one year! A still-practicing gynecologist, Dr. Johnson says she has been a veteran weight fighter since the age of 11. She clearly remembers being taken to her pediatrician and being put on a weight-loss medication. During those tender years she remembers always being the last to take a lap around the track in school. Dr. Johnson played volleyball and basketball in high school and graduated weighing about 150 pounds. In college, however, she gained about twice the Freshman 15 and it only got worse when the incredible stresses of medical school presented. She began her residency weighing 208 but gained and lost 30-50 pounds numerous times after that. Finally, after a stressful new-baby adoption and other life stressors Dr. Johnson found herself at 307 pounds at the age of 50 in 1999. Too embarrassed to see her own physician she lost weight until she was back under 300. It was then she discovered she was hypertensive, pre-diabetic and asthmatic. In all, eventually, she was taking four blood pressure medications to maintain control of her hypertension. Throughout the years Dr. Johnson tried the HCG diet, E-diets, Michael Thurman, Jillian Michaels and more. Finally, at the age of 65, after sitting on the Leanness Lifestyle University sidelines (a.k.a., she was on our mailing list but never signed up), she decided "I need to get this done." Dr. Johnson joined Lifestyle 180 in February of 2013 weighing 218, on the lower end of her 30-pound range, and a frequent sticking point. 20 weeks later she was 178 pounds! 32 weeks later she weighed 156 pounds! She says it feels "exhillarating" and she's excited to now be able to make her body do all sorts of things -- even strength training which she had never seriously tried before. As for what helped her get through the rough spots? Dr. Johnson says it was two things primarily: 1). The strength of the Leanness Lifestyle community and how supportive everyone was including peers and Coaches and 2). She knew I was invested in her and I would be crushed if she failed. I'm glad she felt the strength of the community and she was right about me taking it personally when a student fails. I'm invested in my students--to a fault. Dr. Johnson is down to one medication for blood pressure and, as she says, it's really more for prophylactic purposes than treating a medical concern. She's no longer pre-diabetic and she hasn't had an asthma issue in over nine months! Dr. Johnson paid me two of the greatest compliments a student ever could - what a gift they both were. When I asked her to say whether someone listening should take a chance on my course and themselves a part of her answer included “Global, comprehensive, lifestyle education" as she described the program. That is so special to me because that's exactly what my vision of what I am trying to provide is. The second compliment was when she said she kept going during the rough times partly because she didn't want to let me down because she knew I was invested in her personally. I tell ya, I can exhale and smile at least for a moment, if I know I'm conveying a "global, comprehensive, lifestyle education" and my student-clients know I'm personally invested in them. Thank you Dr. Johnson - those sentiments and thoughtful words mean the world to me. There's a lot more shared as I interviewed Dr. Deborah Johnson M.D. for 38 minutes about her amazing transformation inside and out. Give it a listen and you'll feel inspired. Dr. Johnson is living proof that age is just a number and it's never too late to get in great shape!

Two Male Graduates Share How They Lost 103 Combined Pounds | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 58:58

Curtis Hiatt and John Weber, two men from Indiana, recently graduated from Lifestyle 180, losing 67 and 36 pounds respectively. Curtis Curtis, a 43-year old customer rep, began Lifestyle 180 at 280 pounds and finished at 213 pounds -- losing 67 pounds! Curtis says his work environment, like so many, is very obesity promoting - with candy carts and more routinely being provided. Curtis says he no longer uses food to manage mood or to compensate for emotional ups and downs. Prior to beginning the course Curtis was borderline hypertensive with nagging knee and feet issues. His Father died from diabetes at the age of 52 and that pain had been an ever-present fear within him that gnawing at him to take better care of his health. Although there were some nutritional rough spots, periods during the course when he felt like pushing back and resisting the guidance, Curtis says he eventually did embrace it and is so glad he did. He was still able to work in some of his favorite foods too like pizza, hamburgers, ice cream, alcohol and chocolate. Curtis says "I never felt deprived." The biggest benefit from taking the course, Curtis says, is just how good he now feels about himself. He says that how he interacts with other people, the world and how he feels about himself have all improved greatly. While he used to barely stay awake after 3pm now, he says, he barely needs six hours of sleep a night because his energy is so high. Curtis is continuing with Leanness Lifestyle University to lose an additional 30 pounds and promises he'll submit After photos when he has "arrived." John John Weber, a 50-year old actuary from Indiana has been married for 23 years and has two boys 19 and 15. His boys are actively involved in Boy Scouts and other actitivies and, as you might imagine, his family demands that he's on the go quite a bit. John began Lifestyle 180 at 208 pounds and finished at 172, a 36-pound loss! After two family members had heart attacks before the age of 50 John was always, not unlike Curtis, living in fear that his unhealthy habits might lead him to suffer from the same fate. Now that he's at goal weight and lean John says he no longer looks in the mirror each morning and says "I've got to do something about this." He says he feels really good, that he's really accomplished something, he's at peace and has more energy. Whereas he used to nod off after lunch now he has more than enough energy to carry him through the day with more focus and mental alertness too. John does all of his online work with his iPad now that the course is entirely mobile, tablet and desktop friendly. John is committed to continuing at Leanness Lifestyle University to maintain his weight and even plans to compete in a bodybuilding competition in May of 2014. We look forward to attending and supporting John if he chooses to follow that goal. There's a lot more these two fine men shared as I interviewed them for 59 minutes. Give the interview a listen. You will feel inspired. [Note: I also liked how both guys shared what online apps they are using for their strength training workouts. They each use a different app and, I'd say, equally like the apps they're using.]

Diane Epstein Loses 117 Pounds In One Year! | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 1:10:46

Diane Epstein, a 38 year retail buyer from the Chicago land area lost 117 pounds in one year with evidence-based weight loss at Leanness Lifestyle University (LLU)! From the age of five Diane packed on the weight. After her parents divorced she soothed the pain with food. Not having positive healthy role models in her life the pattern of "stress equals food" became all she knew. Diane says, as a child in elementary school, she remembers having to go weigh in with all the students periodically. One of the most horrifyingly embarrassing things was that the person doing the weighing would call out the weight outloud for each student. She says she doesn't remember what she weighed - just that she was mortified that her weight was always the highest of any student - boy or girl. She was the heaviest in her class. She was always the heaviest in her class. At the age of 12, in eighth grade, Diane said she remembers wearing a size 14. For many years in her 20s and 30s Diane weighed in the 200-210 range. The lowest weight she can remember prior to finding LLU was 163. On her 5'5" frame her lowest weight prior to LLU still meant she was overweight. Diane says since everyone in her family is heavy she thought it was her genetics or bone structure. On New Year's Eve, 2013 Diane weighed herself and found she was her heaviest weight ever - 255 pounds. She would get out of breath just going upstairs in her two-story home. Her arms would get sore from doing basic housework. She reluctantly had gone to the doctor, scared to death at what the doctor might say. Sure enough she had high blood pressure for the first time, after it in years prior had always measured quite low. She was also diagnosed as an asthmatic and was prescribed an inhaler. Diane was introduced to LLU through her brother and sister in law. They both had participated in Lifestyle 180 and had lost 75 pounds each. Diane says she had watched them become successful from afar. She says that even though she saw them becoming successful, she continued to try Weight Watchers and other programs. She'd lose 30 pounds and put it back on and more every time. Like so many others Diane tried just about everything out there before LLU. As a buyer for one of the largest retailers in the country she, during one of her most aggressive weight-loss phases, had to travel for the first time ever to China. Even so, Diane as nervous as she was about the trip, was able to lose eight pounds in 10 days while away in a foreign land! In all? Diane started Lifestyle 180 in February of 2013. As of today, about one year later, Diane weighs 138 pounds -- she has lost 117 pounds! She wore a 3X and sizes 20-24 one year ago. Now she wears sizes 0-4! Diane and her husband used to eat out every meal every weekend. Now they cook together, workout together and shop at the Sports Authority and Under Armour stores together. These are things she is doing now, that one year ago, Diane says she couldn't imagine doing. She is no longer winded going up stairs. Now she runs 9-minute miles for 10 miles! Her arms no longer hurt doing routine house cleaning. She's no longer asthmatic. She no longer has high blood pressure. Diane says one of the most surprising things for her has been the improvements in her relationships with others. She's a lot more social and she's made new friends within the LLU community and outside that community as well. There's a lot more to tell and no better person to tell it than Diane. Give my 70-minute interview with Diane a listen and get ready to be inspired!

Sandy Dooley Loses 133 Pounds In 15 Months | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 44:38

Sandy Dooley, a 58-year young (and I mean young) preschool teacher from Georgia lost 133 pounds in 15 months with courses she took from Leanness Lifestyle University! Always a chubby child, after gaining 60 pounds with a pregnancy, Sandy never really got back to a reasonable weight for her 4'11" frame. Between ages 48 and 57 she spent most of her time in the 200-pound range give or take 20 pounds. Sandy says she did about every program there was, even one she calls the "diet police" where she buddied up with a friend and they called each other for support and accountabilty. She even did her own "one-thing-a-day" diet where she could eat anything she wanted but only one thing, one time a day. She lost weight but always gained it back and more. At the age of 53 Sandy says she got a scare when a stint had to be placed in her heart to relieve a blockage. She lost 60 pounds after the procedure but put those 60 back on and more. At 57 years of age Sandy topped the scale at 245 pounds. That was September of 2012 when she found Leanness Lifestyle University. Sandy says it was rough going at first. She had high blood pressure and arthritis in her knees (needing to take gel shots just to get some relief). It took 45 pounds of weight loss before even one person verbalized they noticed. By June of 2013 (9 months later) Sandy had lost 99 pounds! She said she really tried to melt off that last pound to hit 100 pounds by her graduation from Lifestyle 180 but it didn't quite happen. She finished Lifestyle 180 at 146 pounds and felt like she was really close to her goal. After some further self-evaluation and Coaching Sandy decided she'd go a little lower and just see how it felt. She continued her education and support with Leanness Lifestyle University and a total of 15 months since she weighed 245 Sandy now lives in wonder, amazement and awe at her 112-pound body. Beyond the physical changes Sandy says it's how she feels on the inside and who she is as a person that is the most rewarding. Now, instead of no one noticing her weight loss everyone close to her keeps telling her to stop losing because she's "too skinny." She exercises as much as she wants keeping up with 20-year olds. Her blood pressure is normal. The meds are gone. She's dating. She can wear tight-fitting clothes and she loves how everything just fits. Consistently a top student at Leanness Lifestyle University, Sandy now wants to maintain her weight and give back to other women who, like her, didn't have positive role models for wellness in their lives growing up. Press the play button or download the MP3 audio interview I did with Sandy for a lot more!
