EP15: Kirk Bowman – Focus on Value, Not on Price | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 51:06

The 15th episode of the Empowered Podcast features value-selling expert, Kirk Bowman. Kirk shares with me why it's a waste of time and resources to price by the hour. He'll share how he creates happier customers and increased his sales by focusing on value instead of price. Kirk's Mission: To help you create happy customers and make more money. How Kirk defines empowerment: 1. A mindset 2. A plan If you have a mindset and a plan to go do something you are then empowered to do it. What Kirk and I talked about: What is the best way to empower other people? You empower other people by trying to help them achieve a certain mindset. Then, based on that mindset, they can create a plan for some type of action to reach a specific result. "I try to ask really great questions. Because great questions provoke thought and provoke ideas... I try to give someone the ability to look at something like they've never looked at it before." What does a typical day look like for you? It's an interesting time. I'm currently running two businesses; Mighty Data and Art of Value. Typically I get up between 5 and 6 and work out before going to the office. I don't have any meetings until after 11 am so I have time in the morning to focus on what's most important. Since you decided to face your fears and charge forward, what have you stopped doing? I've completely stopped watching TV. I've had to become more selective on the things I say yes to. How do you unwind and relax? Not very well and not often enough. I have to slow down and get out in nature. I love reading and spending time with my kids. What was the last movie you saw? Star Trek: Into Darkness, Iron Man 3, Despicable Me 2 EPIC Question: What is one tip, or one piece of advice you can give people who are just starting? Don't be scared to try something new. When you're starting out, that's one of the best times to make mistakes. Experiment. If I empower somebody I give them an idea, I give them a vision, and I give them actions What Scott and I talked about: What does a typical day look like for you? Every day, I reflect and plan. Every day I do my day on paper before I live it out in life. Before I plan my day, I reflect on yesterday. I reflect and I plan. I ask myself, what have done yesterday that would have been more productive. Since you decided to face your fears and charge forward, what have you stopped doing? You have to pull the weeds in your life. What was the last movie you saw?  EP13: Pat Flynn – How to Build a Community | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 56:14

The 13th episode of the Empowered Podcast features online business icon, Pat Flynn. Pat will share something with us that he's never shared before. He'll end the PlayStation vs Xbox debate and he'll open up about being an introvert in an online world. Click Here: Thank Pat for being on the show! Pat's Mission: To show you how to work hard now so you can sit back and reap the benefits later. How Pat defines empowerment: Empower means to consciously give yourself the ability to know that you can do something - to give yourself permission to succeed. What Pat and I talked about: How did you get such a large following? My community is large because they can relate to me as a person. I always talk about the things that go wrong in my business and the mistakes that I make; that's why transparency is such a large part of my business and of who I am. What is the best way to empower other people? "I try to encourage and inspire people as much as I can and show people that I am no better than anybody else. I just happen to be someone who has taken those steps to empower myself and to take action. I try to be as transparent as I can." When you decided to do what you're doing now, what types of Resistance did you face? There was a ton of fear behind what I was doing. It's hard to keep going when you don't have something to show for it right away and that's why so many people give up. There was always one more thing that I could be doing - even when I was at home. I had to create boundaries between my business and my personal life. What are you doing today that will keep you moving forward tomorrow? This is really specific but I'm working with my developer to tweak the design of SPI.com to better the user experience. I also do what I can to eat well and to exercise - I actually perform better when I do; I work faster and am more efficient. What was the last movie you saw? Ender's Game EPIC Question: What is one tip, or one piece of advice you can give people who are just starting? "I feel like the people who have risen to the top in this industry are the ones who will go that little bit extra to connect with as many people as they can." I'm reminded of this quote by David Hooper - Stop making music and go out there and talk to people and build real relationships."  EP11: Amy Porterfield – Taking Action Every Day | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 14:27

The 11th episode of the Empowered Podcast features Facebook marketing expert, Amy Porterfield. I caught up with Amy at the Platform Conference in Dallas, Texas. She shares some of the self-doubt-based questions she asked herself when she decided to leave Tony Robbins' company. Amy's Mission: To help small business owners like YOU get results, not brain freeze, from social media. How Amy defines empowerment: It means the ability to make an impact. When I feel empowered I feel like I want to give and give more than I take. And make an impact on the lives I touch. What Amy and I talked about: When you decided to do what you're doing now, what types of Resistance did you face? Amy had a lot of self-doubt. She feared that she didn't have the knowledge or skill set to make it on her own. When she left Tony Robbins, Amy had several fear-based questions in her head. What will people think? Will they think I'm a fraud? Do I really know enough to start my own business? How did you face and overcome those challenges? I surrounded myself with people who truly believed in me. People like my husband, my family, and even peers who knew me, knew my skills and who pushed me forward. Taking action also helped. Every time I did something, even if it wasn't perfect, I got a little piece of confidence in myself. What does a typical day look like for you? I focus on content development. I try to create less but take a deep dive into the material. I try to market smarter and make sure everything I have is streamlined, theres a process in place, and it's the best it can be. I have stuff that works, now I want to make it better. What was the last movie you saw? Captain Phillips EPIC Question: What is one tip, or one piece of advice you can give people who are just starting? It comes back to taking action. Take action every day. Ask yourself, "Did I do something that is going to impact the goal that I'm going after." Resources and Links Mentioned in This Episode: http://fbinfluence.com/ Connect with Jeff! Dan & Joe's Mission: To go head to head each and every week debating the hottest topics in entrepreneurship and online businesses. Getting outside of your comfort zone and giving yourself permission to do it. Joe: Thinking creatively; what is happening in front of me isn't by chance but because I'm creating it. Taking control of your life; you create the path to go where you want. What we talked about: What is the best way to empower other people? Joe: When you open yourself up to other people, showing your vulnerabilities and failures than other things come out of it - new connections, new ideas, new ventures. Trust is then built and they become teachable. When you decided to do what you're doing now, what types of Resistance did you face? Dan: We are full-time employees for someone else....does that make me disingenuous in saying that I'm an entrepreneur? Am I being disingenuous to my employer because I'm spending so much time, energy and money on another passion? Joe: I hit walls when I start over-thinking things and I start caring about what other people think. Which is something you shouldn't do, especially when you're in a space that a lot of your friends and family don't understand much less know anything about. I realized that I can recognize and accept that those types of conversations may make me uncomfortable and vulnerable but I don't need to try to fix it or push it on them. How do you unwind and relax? Joe: play guitar; read; spend time with his wife and dog; sometimes plays Madden. Dan: drink beer; beer festivals with Dad; What was the last movie you saw?  EP6: Jim Stovall – Focus on Your Mission, Not Your Method [Podcast] | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 46:24

The sixth episode of the Empowered Podcast let's us listen in on a conversation with best-selling author and Emmy Award winner, Jim Stovall. Jim shares part of his story, from going blind in his twenties, to starting several businesses and becoming a deca-millionaire.  My Favorite Jim Stovall Quote: We're only as big as the smallest thing it takes to divert us from where we should be. How Jim defines empowerment: I think it means recognizing the gift and power that we have in us. You just have to turn it on. When we empower people, we help them use the talents, skills, the gifts they already have inside of them. What Jim and I talked about: How did you empower yourself to make the changes necessary to get you to where you are today? I took a personal inventory. I asked, "What do I have?"  Particularly when you have a disability or some other issue, you can spend too much time focusing on you disability instead of your ability, that is your mission, not your method. When you decided to do what you're doing now, what types of Resistance did you face? People laughed at me and didn't take me seriously but I used it to refocus and recommit to my goals. What does a typical day look like for you? I have 5 things I do. I do TV, movies, books, columns and speeches. I envision my businesses like a four-sided pyramid - the point is what I'm doing right now but it's supported by the other things that I'm doing. How do you unwind and relax? I read a lot and listen to sports on satellite radio. I'm a huge St. Louis Cardinals fan as well as the Oklahoma Thunder. EPIC Question: What is one tip, or one piece of advice you can give people who are just starting? This life we are living is not a practice game. Visualize the greatest life you could live, the greatest self you could be, and begin to pursue that. If you're pursuing a goal in your life and you know how to do it, how to get from here to there, you have not picked a big goal. Pick what you want and then figure out how you're going to do it.  EP5: Marlee Ward – Growing Into Yourself [Podcast] | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 52:07

The fifth episode of the Empowered Podcast features marketing expert Marlee Ward. You'll hear how Marlee transitioned from attorney to entrepreneur. We'll discuss the power of taking responsibility, overcoming rejection, and figuring out how to start a business from scratch. Marlee Ward's Mission: To teach entrepreneurs how to communicate their value with ease and integrity so attracting ideal clients happens naturally. How Marlee defines empowerment: "Taking responsibility for your life. No one owes you anything. You are not a victim." What Marlee and I talked about: How did you empower yourself to make the changes necessary to get you to where you are today? I maintain a strong spiritual life and I connect with my faith. I'm constantly educating and developing myself. I make the investments that I need to grow. What is the best way to empower other people? Engage with other people. Talk to them and encourage them to reach their potential. Talk to them as though they are the people you can see them as being. Sometimes we all need someone to see ourselves as someone we could be. When you decided to do what you're doing now, what types of Resistance did you face? I had to figure out how to get my first clients. I had to figure out how to run a business. I had to deal with rejection. How did you face and overcome those challenges? I surrendered to it and just said okay...I'm going to go for it and I'm going to do this. And everything really came together for me. "You probably know what your unique difference is, you're just not giving it credit." What are you doing today that will keep you moving forward tomorrow? Every time I work with a client or I see one of my clients have a big win, I'm just high for days. I can't get over that I get paid to do what I do. I try to stay amazed and I try to stay in gratitude at the entire process and that keeps me going. Peaks and valleys of entrepreneurship still show up, but I'm more equipped to handle the valleys when they come. Since you decided to face your fears and charge forward, what have you stopped doing? Be intentional about who you hang out with. How do you unwind and relax? Tennis, horseback riding, snow boarding, jet skiing, exercises daily. EPIC Question: What is one tip, or one piece of advice you can give people who are just starting? Start small. Don't get overwhelmed by your vision. Start working with people as soon as possible.  EP3: Dan & Vanessa Hayes – A Lifestyle on Your Terms [Podcast] | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 50:35

In this third episode of the Empowered Podcast I get to share a conversation that I had with Dan and Vanessa Hayes. We talk about living life how we choose, not how someone chooses for us. They share with me how there is more to life than living in the rat race. Dan & Vanessa's Mission: To lead a simple life in the modern world! How Dan & Vanessa define empowerment: Empowerment means that either someone has given me what I need or I've taken it.  EP2: Farnoosh Brock – Trusting Yourself [Podcast] | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: Unknown

In today's episode I share the fantastic chat I had with entrepreneur Farnoosh Brock! She was such an inspiration to me when I heard her on another show, I had to talk to her myself. Farnoosh's website: http://www.prolificliving.com/ Farnoosh's Mission: To help and inspire you to live an epic life! How Farnoosh defines empowerment: Empowerment is the opposite of trapped, miserable, without choice, not having control of your career. It means you are free to live the lifestyle that you want. What we talked about: What does the word “empower” mean to you? It means a mom can be with her kids while they grow up. It means a flexible employment. It means that you are in control. How did you empower yourself and others? I focus on mindset and staying away from negative thinking. How important is the way we talk to ourselves? Very important! Self-criticism usually does more damage than we think. It is really important that you have a healthy communication and relationship with yourself. When you decided to do what you're doing now, what types of Resistance did you face? What if I don't make any money? What if no one likes what I'm doing? What does a typical day look like for you? One of the things that helped me is changing my morning routine. Wake up. Eat Breakfast. Go for a run. Read or watch a motivational video. Meditate. Work on apps or the blog in the afternoon. What are you doing today that will keep you moving forward tomorrow? I take action every day. Do something every day that relates to your goals. Since you decided to face your fears and charge forward, what have you stopped doing? I've stopped blaming other people. I stopped bad habits like watching the news that don't help me. How do you unwind and relax? I meditate and do Ashtanga Yoga. I pay attention to my health and focus on self-care. What was the last movie you saw? Philomena at the Toronto Film Festival EPIC Question: What is one tip, or one piece of advice you can give people who are just starting? Trust yourself. Invest in yourself.
