I like the episodes where I discuss articles and this is no exception.I ran across this article entitled, The Massive Fitness Trend That's Not Actually Healthy at All, Very interesting perspective. In this article, Jonathan Angelilli makes the argument that we have militarized our fitness because we are an aggressive society and that aggressiveness is a bad thing. I make the argument that Americans are more fat and lazy than aggressive. Maybe passive/aggressive but that is an entirely different thing. Please don't take offense at that but I don't think the Spartans had a diabetes epidemic. They were aggressive. I am pretty sure Genghis Khan had a good BMI.And as we all know, "Those weights ain't gonna lift themselves" at least not without a lot of hard work. I call it hard work, you call it suffering....let's not play semantics here.The idea here is to look at a different perspective. Even though he bills himself as a "celebrity trainer" ( yuck) and "peaceful warrior" he makes some interesting points and I respect that. And he is entitled to those opinions.He also says a number of new-agey things that are way off base.Who is right? Welcome to 2015!In this episode I take a step back to welcome any new years resolution people by giving a short introduction of M Factor Fitness theory. If any of them are still listening after that we cover why you shouldn't get dish towels, tooth brushes, underwear, socks, copy paper or spatulas to your significant other on Christmas. If you must, please don't count it against their Christmas/Hanukkah/Kwanza budget. This may be marriage saving advice for some of you.I also share my color coding scheme for wrapping presents so you never give the wrong gift to anyone. The "Biggest Loser" show have turned out better comedians than "Last Comic Standing" and today's example of a workout is no exception. Very funny except for the fact people will get injured trying to do it. Oh yeah and the fact it is a pointless workout.  Never to leave anyone hanging, I give you an alternative workout you can do on your own without equipment.4 exercises, 4 rounds. Work up to 25 reps each exercise. after you reach that, change the exercises to harder versions and you have an easy to remember full body workout. I give tips on how to do all the exercises so you don't mess yourself up.Beginner Version:1. Squats2. Push-ups (yes you have to do them)3. Reverse Crunches4.  Episode 42: How Meditation Can Change the Shape of Your Brain | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 00:38:00

This is a pretty good podcast if I do say so. Anyone who knows me or has listened to this podcast knows that I am fascinated by the brain and how it works. But this is a tricky subject to discuss because you have to consider the idea that you are not in charge of your brain. For example, if you were really in charge of your brain why can't you tell it that you need to lose 50 pounds so make that chocolate cake look disgusting. A nice brain would do that for you. Instead your brain is constantly at work making connections, coming to conclusions and routing your life for you whether you realize it or not.(If you happen to be high, don't read the following sentence because it will freak you out.) So in essence you need to tell your brain, through your brain to rewire itself to stop making bad connections and evaluations and make better ones. If you don't your brain just goes on it's merry way making haphazard connections.That is why you need to practice some sort of control over the brain. Meditation has always been brought forth as a way to rewire your connections and change the way you look at life. A way to bring peace and understanding.  This new study from Harvard actually now has proof through the use of MRI's that you can change the structural shape of your brain through meditation. I take a look at the Brookstone catalog and lo and behold there is another "Biggest Loser" trainer hawking stuff you don't need. If you really want to waste $200 on a handheld massager then go ahead. If you want to spend $2 on a device that is way better than a massager....then I guess you better have a listen.I also talk about why buying a cheap treadmill/elliptical/Bike is never a good idea. Hint: they aren't made well, you won't use it and/or it will break. But if you want to spend $200 Brookstones has a really bad idea of a bike you can buy.Finally I take one last crack at telling you my nutrition philosophy and hopefully is makes you a little less stressed. I am not perfect at nutrition and I don't expect my clients to be. All you have to be is pretty good and that should work. Low testosterone or Adrenal Fatigue?Okay, this may not be as exciting as looking at oiled up spray tan guys barking about raising your testosterone....but this does make more sense. Hormone replacement therapy is the hot industry buzzword and clinics are popping up faster than Crossfit gyms.The real question is do you need it?For a lot of people the answer is no. This is something you need to do your research on before dropping your pants in front of a doctor.#1 Introducing exogenous testosterone in your body means you will have to do this treatment the rest of your life. If you want normal test levels.In other words if your body is getting this from an outside source, it doesn't need to make it itself. So it stopsor at the very least slows down.Stop the treatment and your levels will plummet lower than when you started.#2  HRT is expensive.#3  What a great way to build repeat customers for the clinic. Great for Doctors who want to make tons of money giving people shots in the butt and bad for you if this really isn't the issue.If you have low testosterone it means that something is going on upline causing the low testosterone production. Adding test to your system is treating the effect not the cause.That is why hormone therapy is not always effective.Look at this article of on the adrenals.
