Fine teachers need to be connected since many are the only teachers in the school. This week on the aRTs Roundtable gaming in the music classroom. All three of us are HOOKED on My Singing Monsters app for the iPad and iPhone. A music game that we all have been obsessed with. There is a My Singing Monsters wiki where you can find how to “breed” different sound monsters and we are using mindmeister to map out our monsters. This week on the aRTs Roundtable we talk about the all the ghosts of our summer play and creating with our iPads, and how we will use this play in our classrooms and conferences. Tricia has been playing a lot with doink app. Here’s her blogpost for creating spooky landscapes. Tricia has been experimenting with a variety of photo apps, like Superimpose. Brenda, Carol, and Jen are obsessed with My Singing Monsters. Brenda will use MadPad with the My Singing Monsters loops with her students. Here is the My Singing Monsters wiki for the iPad/iPhone game. Carol used MentorMob, Remind101, and Edmodo for the pre-service teachers or connect and communicate. Brenda’s school does not have an art teacher, so Brenda offered two classes to her students over the summer for a small fee, all involving iPads, a claymation class and a drawing class with iPads. You can find her student work on her blog, MrsMuench.com She received her funding through https://edbacker.com/ Carol is teaching pre-service education majors entering their sophomore year. Basic technology skills revolving around file management, passwords, and bookmarking. The hope is to have a work-flow management system that doesn’t get in the way of creating. This week on the aRTs Roundtable we talk about the release from NCCAS (National Coalition for CORE ARTS Standards) of the PreK-8 arts standards. The High School arts standards being released later this year. Instead of dance, music, theater, and visual arts creating their own standards, the entire arts community with the addition of media arts are creating overall CORE ARTS standards. In addition arts teachers involve theater and dance. The blurring of the arts has created arts teachers that take risks outside their discipline.
