We are now 27 days into ‘30 Days to kick-start your life change’ and it is awesome to be receiving a good number of emails from those who have made a decision to implement the biggest change in their lives since birth. One of the biggest things I am hearing from you guys is summed up in an e-mail that I received this week from Julie who raises the issue of the change that she has seen in her own life since starting this programme. Julie has recognised a distinction between how she was and how she is and has asked how she can finally destroy aspects of her character and personality that she no longer needs. Familiar? Read this! “Mark, thank you so much for investing your time into ‘30 days to kick-start your life change’. I have witnessed some incredible shifts in my own life through taking part in this course. Let me explain... I turned to this course at a point in my life when I had no confidence whatsoever. More than that I ‘faked’ confidence, because I was desperate for attention. I have been single for 15 years. It’s sad. It has made me miserable. For a good number of years I have gone out at the weekend with my girlfriends - I wore short skirts and lots of make up and I made damn well sure that men looked at me. I flirt, I laugh way too loud, I accept drinks and, more often than not I end up taking a guy home. It had just become ‘what I do’. But your course has taught me confidence from the inside, real, true confidence, confidence based on the fact that I am a lovely girl really. I have now developed this fantastic, true, inner confidence and I cannot thank you enough. I have actually stopped going out as I spend time focusing on all the good wisdom that I have learnt from this course. This weekend though, I went out, and I was so annoyed with myself because even though I feel the most confident that I have ever been I still flirted with men in the way that I always did and so I want to know why the hell I am still holding on to that? - Julie, USA.” It’s time to break the habitual negative patterns of behaviour. I asked Julie if I could share her email because it’s a brilliant question that I am sure many can relate too. Throughout our lives we build defense mechanisms into our attitude and behaviours. These defense mechanisms are created to protect ourselves from being hurt, we sub-consciously create these behaviours in an attempt to compensate for our weaknesses and insecurities. In Julie’s case she has mentioned that she has been single for 15 years, which is clearly something that she is not happy with. We are subliminally told through advertising and the world around us that if we are single then there is something wrong with us and we are not desirable to others. Because Julie has been told this time and time again she has adopted a loud, outgoing, flirty attitude with the sole intention of making sure that she gets attention from men with the goal of taking a guy home to have sex. Julie’s pattern of behaviour has been formed to convince her, each time that she hits the clubs, that she is loved and is desirable. Instead of allowing her naturally beauty to shine, she has essentially forced herself on blokes to ensure that she feels ‘loved’. As Julie mentioned she has been able to gain a new level of confidence, as she puts it a ‘true confidence’ based upon everything that she has learned from this course. Nevertheless, Julie has been running her old patterns of behaviour for so long that they have become second nature to her, they have become a habit that she has found difficult to stop. It is fantastic that Julie has recognised that this is an old pattern of behaviour that she no longer needs, but,

I will never forget sitting on my couch, in my rented flat with the monthly rent, electricity and gas bills all over due and no money for food. Due to having had a business venture just fail I had no money whatsoever and I was completely convinced that I was going to go bankrupt. The world had hit an economic crisis, I had applied to well over 200 jobs, without gaining any interview and so my thoughts had shifted from job hunting to how to cope with the label of bankruptcy. I became focused on negative thoughts: who would want to date someone who was bankrupt? What would people think of me if I was on income support? What a failure I would be for the rest of my life! Are you focusing your mental attention on the wrong things? By shifting your mental focus you can change everything about your life today. Plus, read on to discover how I shifted my attention and started a brand new career. There is no greater truth than, “What you focus on, you become”. If you are going around in circles in your own mind, focusing on negative thoughts I guarantee that it will be affecting both your mental and physical health. If you transform your thought life and reprogram what you focus your attention on I guarantee that you will be a happier, healthier person who will achieve any goal that you set your mind upon. What are your predominant thought patterns? We all run a continuous internal dialogue, what is called self-talk or intrapersonal communication, it is the conversation that we have in our head, with ourselves, throughout the day. Do you spend most of your time thinking about positive, constructive thoughts that help to contribute to your success or do you spend your time worrying, stressing and placing your attention on all things negative? Way too many people focus their attention on thoughts that worry them and stress them out. The truth is that if we worry about a possible situation and it does end up happening, we naturally also worry about this circumstance if it does take place. Therefore, we have worried about a situation twice - what’s the point? If we worry about a situation and it never happens we have absolutely wasted our precious thinking space and we have placed stressed on our body and our mind in the process. Much more than positive thinking... I have spoke to a number of individuals on the power of positive thinking, which is something that I absolutely believe in. However, people get caught up in a self-help trap which goes along the lines of ‘think positively about everything that you want and you will achieve it’. This is not what I am sharing with you here. I want to teach you a powerful technique that will enable you to actively train the focus of your attention to ensure you achieve the highest mental and physical objectives. I want to shift your percentage ratio so that you are spending more of your thought time focusing on thoughts that will benefit your life and that will enable you to achieve your goals and less time on negative thoughts, stress and worry. You will always head in the direction that you focus I heard a great, true story about racing drivers. When a racing driver loses ground and is heading in the direction of a wall, in that split second the drivers natural reaction is to focus their attention on the wall to try and ensure that they don’t hit it. One of the first thing that a racing driver is trained to do, when they are about to crash and hit a wall, is to turn their head in the direction that they want to go. A racing driver hones their skills to focus their attention on where they want to go and not the direction that they want to move away from, the wall that they are about to hit.

 Day Twenty Three – Am I settling for second best? (It’s time to unsettle the settlers) | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 10:13

I will never forget being 12 years old, with my family, at the UK’s biggest theme park and thinking that one day this theme park will be closed down for a day just for myself and my friends, in the same way that it had been closed for Michael Jackson earlier on in the same year. At such a young age I had a desire to not take life for granted but to live an extraordinary live, to live it to the full, didn't you? If you have had dreams for your life but, for whatever reason, you have settled for second best, you really need to read on! Whether it’s a romantic relationship with a fairy-tale wedding or financial freedom and copious amounts of worldwide travelling when we are young we have no experience of fear or failure and we certainly have no knowledge of aspects of adulthood that can limit us and so we dream such big dreams. Tell me about your childhood dreams? When you were younger what dreams did you dream about your future partner, about what you wanted your career to be? What were your dreams about who you wanted to be or where you wanted to live? My guess is that the reality of the life that you are living now is very different to the dreams that you had as a child. Why? As we grow up we experience set backs, we realise the difficulty of raising the cash that we need to achieve our dreams and our childhood aspirations can be hindered by our exam results and life situations. When we are younger the dreams that we have are submerged by the realities in life that we face and instead of knocking on every single door to ensure that our dream becomes reality we settle for second best. In order for us to ‘settle’ and therefore accept second best for our lives we have to mentally give ourselves permission to do so and so we justify our behavior by everybody else’s actions. We didn't get the best grades because the school/teacher was rubbish.  The relationship did not turn out the way that we had hoped because your parents relationship served as a poor model.  Our dreams to travel vanished because of the wife/children/job. And the current biggest lie of all... In this current economic climate there is no way that I can chase my dreams. I completely appreciate that there are situations and scenarios in life that we have to find a way to overcome to ensure that we don’t settle for second best. However, it’s when we use these situations as an excuse to abandon our dreams, blaming this on everyone and everything else, this is when we have consciously made a decision to settle for second best. Did you hear that? Blaming everyone else for the fact that YOU have not chased YOUR dreams is a decision that YOU alone are responsible for. Let’s talk about settling... When it comes into my conscious awareness that I have settled in any specific area of my life, that realisation drives me crazy. When I talk to other people who have settled for second best in their lives it drives me insane. I completely appreciate that it can be difficult. To chase anything that is truly worthwhile is not going to be easy, but when we stick with it the breakthrough comes. The reason that I find settling for second best so damn hard is because we have only one opportunity to live our lives. If we actually allow the truth of this reality to invade our mind, body and spirit then we begin to understand that settling for something other than the dreams that we have for our lives is not an option. It just isn't. It’s time to unsettle the settlers. If you have settled for second best in your life it’s time to stop, it’s time to pick up those latent dreams that you had for yourself as a child and go at them with everything that you have - because we live life once.
