This week we wrapped up the series, TBH: The Truth About Sex & Dating, with a Q&A session.
Full service at Worship Night, including Strangers No More.
Message from Worship Night.
This week we talked about sex. Here are some of the questions we discussed in Small Groups: 1) What and/or who was the source of most of your sex education? (parents, school, TV, movies, friends, magazines, computer, experience, etc.) 2) What are some pressures that students put on themselves when it comes to sex? (ex: to have/not to have it, always being seen as sexy, etc…) 3) What does culture say about sex? How does that match up with what God wants for us? 4) In your opinion, what are the biggest challenges to sexual purity today? 5) Read Philippians 1:9-10 NIV. This verse talks about using discernment. How can you be proactive about your boundaries rather than being reactive?
This week we talked about dating. Here are some of the questions we discussed in Small Groups: 1) Why or why don’t you want to date? 2) Would you date yourself? Why or why not? 3) Do you agree or disagree with choosing someone’s PATTERN over someone’s POTENTIAL?
The idea of sex and dating can sometimes feel like tug-o-war. On one side, you see your friends and culture shoving it down your throat and then on the other side, you have your parents and church saying to stay away and live pure. So, how do you navigate the feelings and emotions you have, the lure of what culture is telling you to do and still live a pure life that honors God? Well, let’s talk about it...
This week we talked about prayer. Here are some of the questions we discussed in Small Groups: 1) Do you find it important to pray? Why or why not? 2) What’s the most difficult part about praying? 3) Do you ever feel dangerously familiar with prayer? 4) What next step can you take to improve your prayer life?
This week we talked about the importance of reading the Bible. Here are some of the questions we discussed in Small Groups: 1) What’s the most difficult obstacle that gets in your way when you try to read the Bible? And why? 2) How does your perspective on the Bible change if you went from reading the Bible for you, to reading the Bible to simply know more about God? And why? 3) Pick a TIME, PLACE and PLAN as a group so you can encourage each other and help keep each accountable!
We want to sit down with the parents of Oneighty students so we can hear and learn from you. In February, we will be teaching a series called TBH: The Truth About Sex and Dating. This is a great chance to speak truth into some issues that your students are already dealing with and give them some tools to help them navigate those challenges. The bottom line is this: There’s too much at stake with the next generation, and the best chance we have is for the church and the home to join forces and pull in the same direction.
This week we talked about distractions. Here are some of the questions we discussed in Small Groups: 1) On a scale of 1 - 10, how “noisy” is your life? (Music, entertainment, friends, school, family, sports, social media, etc) 2) What distraction or busyness can or should be cut out completely for growth? 3) What distraction or busyness can or should be cut back to make room for growth?
How do we stay close to God when he seems so far away? That’s the question that we want to answer in this series.
