 083 – Geek Life – Pickman’s Model | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 0:58:33

This week we spotlight Kim Holm’s incredible adaptation of HP Lovecraft’s short story Pickman’s Model. Being big Lovecraft fans around here we jumped at the opportunity to cover Kim’s work. This graphic novel adaptation of one of Lovecraft’s best is totally excellent. Kim’s vision of Pickman’s world is truly something to behold. The thick inky blackness, frayed lines and fevered pitch of his work is an experience you wont want to miss. You can purchase yourself a copy of  Pickman’s Model on IndiePlanet and read it for free on FreeComics.no. Be sure to like Kim’s facebook page facebook.com/DUHHfans.  082 – Geek Life – B-Squad | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 0:32:53

This week the gang spotlights B-Squad from Eben Burgoon (of Eben07 fame). B-Squad follows an A-Team like group of colorful & diverse folks who engage in missions of extreme danger that others would simply turn down. The really interesting part comes from the element of chance Eben has thrown into the mix. In each issue one of the squaddies will perish, chosen at random by the spin of an antique mariner’s gambling token made of whalebone dubbed “The Pequod”. Don’t get too attached too the team in this hilarious comedy, because it’s anyone’s guess who’s next on the chopping block (even Eben doesn’t know!). Masterfully illustrated by Lauren Monardo, this book is so very worth your attention. Check out BSquadComic.com to read more and purchase yourself a copy! This week we spotlight the insanely violent and crazy Anna Pocalypse by Adam Talley. Follow Anna in her struggle to survive just months after the world went to hell. No government, no police, no rules. This grindhouse style story is over the top and not for the faint of heart. Adam spins an interesting story that asks, what will you do after the bombs drop? Dave get’s stuck in prehistoric time and must survive with the help of his new caveman friend, Krong. Dave’s future friends are looking for him, but it may take some time… heh heh.  079 – Geek Life – Rabbit Walrus | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 0:37:48

This week we spotlight the insane and hilarious comic “The Slightly Insane Spontaneously Combusting Frothing Mutant Ninja Blackbelt Samurai Rabbit-Walrus From Hell” by Matt Marchetti. Often shortened to just “Rabbit-Walrus”, this crazy comic finds our rabbit/walrus-like friend fighting (what he thinks is) crime, though often he just murders some innocent folk. But throw a giant evil doom monster at him and now we’re talking! This comic is so funny and totally scatterbrained, we had a great time reading it.  078 – Geek Life – Turtles Time Warp | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 0:54:24

This week we look back at the iconic first issue of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles by Kevin Eastman and Peter Laird… 80’s style! That’s right, we go back in time and imagine what it’d be like to review TMNT issue 1 in 1984 right as it came out. Eastman and Laird weren’t comic titans yet, just aspiring indie comic creators from New Hampshire. Without all the weight that the turtles carries in our minds, how do we really feel about TMNT if we’d never heard of it before? Find out in this special episode of the Geek Life Podcast. Geek Life is sponsored by Audible, you can grab your free book at AudibleTrial.com/GeekLife.  077 – Geek Life – SadoCat | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 0:52:40

SadoCat, is here to defend our parks against evil squirrel invasions, our forests against obnoxious hippies and in general murder lots of stuff! Cory’s hilarious comic is pitch perfect and was an instant favorite of the Geek Life crew. This one is really and truly in our top indie comics we’ve ever read (JP said it’s all the way in his Top 10). Ben employed an incredible team of artists to bring his vision of future Sacramento California, or Sacramentropolis, to life in full beautiful color. Trixie is the rocket-booting acrobatic superhero of Sacramento’s future. She battles loads crazy villains and stands guard against the ever present danger of alien invasion! This week we review web-comic The Samurai Boy by Dan Arrows. Samurai Boy is all about Hiko, a young martial artist growing up in the distant land of Brazil! There he meets new friends, old enemies & learns about his new home. This adorable and at times poignant comic is clearly written by someone who appreciates martial arts and their true spirit. Hiko is immediately likable and his almost Calvin-and-Hobbes relationship with his jaguar friend Kitty makes for strong core of whats truly an excellent comic.
