Getting Elected Podcast – Episode 002 — Political Campaign Research and Strategy with Jeff Stapleton | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 53:37

Getting Elected Podcast – Episode 002 Political Campaign Research and Strategy with Jeff Stapleton Overview I was very excited about this episode on political campaign research– not only because the guest is a good friend of mine but because he is the first guest of the Getting Elected Podcast! In this episode it is all about research. In my opinion, research is one of the most important aspects of any election. It is often the difference between winning and losing. A little about the guest In this episode, research and strategy guru Jeff Stapleton sits down with me to share his knowledge and approach to research. Jeff has a master degree in public policy from Arizona State University and is currently a Senior Policy Advisor for Phoenix Mayor Greg Stanton. Before working at City Hall, Jeff  held several key positions in campaigns across the country. He has worked on presidential elections, nationwide coordinated campaigns, and many others. Right before moving into the Mayor’s Wing downtown, Jeff spent five years as the Research Director of the Arizona Democratic Party. If you want to know about campaign research – he’s the man to talk to. More specifically, in this episode you’ll learn about: Opposition campaign research and strategy LexisNexis Internal campaign research and strategy Using Google Alerts to your advantage How to use screen shots in an ever changing digital environment to benefit your campaign Screen Capture (PC) Screen Shot (MAC) Monitoring and researching TV and radio ads of your opponent(s) Tracking your opponents' mailers How to decide which voters to target on a limited campaign budget Voter Vault (Now known as GOP Data Center) Voter Activation Network (VAN) How to obtain and leverage interns to your advantage And Jeff talks about the biggest mistake he sees candidates make in an election If you liked the episode make sure to leave a review Also, if you want to get in touch with Jeff you can find him on LinkedIn! Thanks for listening! Best, Jason

 Getting Elected Podcast – Episode 001 | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 12:56

Getting Elected Podcast – Episode 001 (The Mission and Me) In the first session of the Getting Elected Podcast I talk about my motivation to start Getting Elected the goals and the mission. I also spend a few minutes talking about my career in politics and my experience in the political world. Motivation If you’ve read the About Getting Elected page you’ve seen the equation for the website. Now, that the website is underway and I have been able to add content and begin growing the sites value I now feel comfortable reaching out to a potential audience and my first step is the Getting Elected podcast. Also, I love producing the show. In college I had a national award winning radio show that I had a tone of fun creating. I have been talking about starting a podcast now for five years and I finally got it going! Goals The goal of the website and the podcast are the same; to provide valuable, relevant, cutting edge content to help people get elected. In my years in politics I saw it every election cycle – qualified, engaged and passionate people losing races not because they didn't do the best job, but because they ran a less effective race. This website will be a success if I help one engaged citizen who wants to represent their community and make a positive change get elected. Mission There are so many tactics and  strategies that are being used by businesses to sell products that are not being used by candidates. Working in marketing everyday I see tactics and approaches campaigns should be using but for some reason are avoiding. I’d like to share them with you! I believe if it works for businesses it should work for candidates too. I hope this site is able to provide confidence to a broad range of people and it helps elected good talent to our government. If you like the podcast please review it on iTunes and let me know what you think!
