Living The Past And Present Through Music (Conversation Corner) | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 30:25

Rick and Steve reflect on times and events of the past especially pertaining to music. For younger individuals this may not yet make sense, but for those of Steve’s generation, it will. The Vietnam war had just ended and during those years as a military service member music was one thing which “got you though”. In 1976 Steve went and saw a band who just the year before added two new band members Stevie Nicks and Lindsey Buckingham known as Fleetwood Mac. You know the history from there. Fast forward to 2014 and with Christine McVie now back on tour with them, 38 years later it was so incredible to see them again. As you age, the music of your generation becomes more a part of you than ever. Although dress and appearance have changed drastically over the years, the music doesn’t and it is healthy to live those times of reflection.

Holidays Versus Workdays (Flash Past) | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 25:59

Have you ever had to work on a holiday? Of course you have; we all have. You may have even worked on Thanksgiving of this year. How did we, as a society, decide which holidays we were going to have off work and which holidays just didn’t matter enough to warrant a day off work? Dan and Lyle are in agreement, Thanksgiving and Christmas, in a perfect world, are the two holidays everyone would have off work. Sure, there are other important holidays, but these two — at least for a majority of people — signify a time for families to come together and enjoy one another. But this isn’t possible. Many of us remember a time when, on Christmas or Thanksgiving day, there were no stores open. Behind the scenes, however, a lot of people have always worked on holidays. Prison guards, police officers, truck drivers, nurses… the list of people who simply can’t just take the holidays off is large. These people are behind the scenes, though. We don’t see them, so we don’t care as much. We get in an uproar about retail shops being open on holidays because it’s in our face. All of the businesses want us to know they’re open. Of course, this makes some people mad. As a side note, don’t you think it’s ironic that the bargains that people are knocking one another over to get are called “doorbusters”? The history of people being off work for certain holidays as a show discussion got sidetracked. If you’d like to find out how, have a listen. Should be a good time!

College Football Rivalries (Flash Past) | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 29:32

Dan and Lyle visit the world of college football rivalries. Being a high-school football coach, this is a topic of great interest to Lyle. Did you know football as we enjoy it today is vastly different from the sport it was when these rivalries began? It is. Dan compares it to the childhood game red rover, but with knives. Initially, passing wasn’t even part of the game. Weird, huh? Both hosts are in agreement; college football is more entertaining than its professional counterpart. The discussion covers several of college football’s oldest rivalries including the Iron Bowl, the Deep South’s Oldest Rivalry, The Game, the Red River Showdown, the Civil War, and even the Holy War. During the discussion, Dan and Lyle talk about each game’s first meeting, its overall stats, and a little history about each matchup. Dan was an Alabama fan in his younger years, but eventually saw the “error of his ways” and became an Auburn fan. Being born in Ohio, he’s also had fun taunting his Michigander (from Michigan) wife, chanting “GO BUCKS” during the Michigan vs. Ohio State rivalry game. Lyle tells a story about his son’s early devotion to Michigan.
