Episode 21 Questions 1. Topic: Juicing, hot craze or hot mess? I recently watched the documentary, “Fat, Sick, and Nearly Dead”. Basically, it was a documentary about a guy who went on a juice fast and fixed all his health issues. It praised juice fasts as a great way to lose weight and get healthy. What is your take on juice fasts? Are they a legit option? Are they dangerous? I mean straight fruit/vegetable juice for a month at a time seems extreme. Thanks! 2. Topic: Suns out, Guns out, Lets Get Shredded Hey fellas, you guys kick ass and have helped me get in the best shape I have been in in years, so I have to give you some praise! Here is my question. Summer is rapidly approaching and I want to get as lean as possible, I mean lets be honest, we are vain creatures and I really want to get my 6-pack ready for beach season. I am 5’8”, 165 pounds, and around 12-13% body fat, I can see my abs when I flex and feel like I am pretty close to getting there. What diet/exercise advice can you give me to help lean out as quick as possible? Thanks a ton and I hope this makes it on the show! 3. Topic: Is going gluten-free actually bad for you? There has been some recent evidence that going “gluten-free” is actually bad for you. Specifically, that it doesn’t help with weight loss, has negative effects on the gut flora, increases inflammation, etc. What is your take on this data? 4. Topic: Dietary insulin sensitizers, good idea? Hey guys, Love the show! You do a great job giving us information we can actually use! I have been listening for a few months, been following your advice in terms of diet and exercise, and have lost 25 pounds since January. Huge shout out! My question is in regards to dietary insulin sensitizers like cinnamon. I am slowly coming out of my self-induced T2DM and wanted to know what your thoughts on using things like cinnamon to help with my insulin-resistance? Thanks for all you do!

We are finally back after a few week hiatus due to finals, graduation, moving, research, etc. Here are the topics we covered for the week! On your podcast, could you please discuss magnesium as a treatment for tendonitis? Is it a valid solution? I am specifically interested in chronic injuries that are not responding to PT, rest, or meds. (There is more to this story but this is a good place to start.) Eating carbs with protein to help them digest the protein and protein synthesis Post-workout caffeine inhibits strength/lean muscle gains. Lifting with and without weightlifting shoes

Title: To Carb Cycle or Not to Carb Cycle?? Hey Brad and Mike, Great show guys! I really enjoy the work you do and appreciate the time you spend. Here is my question. I was reading into high protein/fat low carb diets that claim to be just as effective as high carb/protein low fat in terms of building strength and muscle, but also you won't put on fat? The eating split I was reading about claims to raise your testosterone, increase growth hormones, and IGF-1. Basically it is super low carb, high fat/protein monday-friday, and then a semi low protein/ low fat high carb based diet on saturday and sunday. I may give it a try, just wondering your thought on it? Thanks Fellas! Title: Getting Big, Mass Gainers, and all that is Man. Hey guys, I have been lifting for a few years and am struggling to put on the kind of weight I want. The scale wont budge, I am not getting any bigger or stronger. I have started taking a mass gainer my buddy gave me and I wanted to know your thoughts on this product and these types of products in general. Do they work? Are they better than just protein? Should I eat food instead? Please help a sarcopenic brother out! Thanks for setting the record straight! Title: Cholesterol… I am so confused Hi guys, I want to keep my question short and to the point but I may ramble. . . I have been hearing a lot of conflicting things about cholesterol and heart disease. For years we have been told dietary cholesterol is bad but you all said it wasn’t. What does that mean for the standard blood tests? What exactly are they measuring when they measure LDL and HDL… What the heck is particle size? Does that even matter? How the heck can I make sure I have a healthy heart as I age in regards to cholesterol? Well. . . I think that covers my questions, I hope you all pick this one and talk about it. Thanks!
