Episode 8: Rags to Riches: Afraid Non-Swimmer to Instructor | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: Unknown

December 16, 2010 There are a lot of inspiring stories in learn-to-swim. Take Richard's. Richard was afraid in water his whole life. At the age of 50-ish, he decided he wanted to learn to swim. He had never taken formal lessons. He took Miracle Swimming as his first exposure to lessons. He then took advantage of our Open Swim practice sessions once a week for an hour during which he practiced staying comfortable all the time and experimented with how the water and his body worked together. He began to be a "spotter" in our classes, helping others learn. In a short time, a year or two, he had learned our system. Our long-term instructor moved. Richard stepped up to take over. Today, he's a fabulous instructor I'm proud to call ours. He has the answers; and his students all love him. Join Richard and me on the December 16 Learn to Swim Show. He'll tell you what he learned about himself and about learning to learn. Swimming is just the sidebar.

Episode 12: African Americans, Swimming, and Hair. Also, Teach Parents to Swim First. | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: Unknown

January 13, 2011 Call every African American you know: women and men. If there's one stopper that caps all the rest when an African American woman considers swimming lessons, it's her hair. And it's not a small thing. One of my guests has searched out every last option. The other is a man who also stayed away from lessons on account of his locks to his waist. Almost the entire show will be spent on how to beat the hair issue and come away safe in water for the rest of your life. The first part of the show will address the necessity of parents learning to swim before their children. The world would be a safer place for millions if this were the order of learning.

Episode 13: YOU Can Guarantee Learning | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: Unknown

January 20, 2011 Yes, you. Do you guarantee that every student will learn? I think I know the answer. At Miracle Swimming, we can and we do. And we've been doing so for 28 years. If you want to be able to guarantee learning, you'll want to know Education's version of the invention of the wheel. True, Education doesn't know it yet... but we hope it will be listening.

Episode 14: What Would It Take To Teach Everyone In Your Town To Learn To Swim? | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: Unknown

January 27, 2011 How many people live in your town? Half of those people, conservatively speaking, are not reliable for their safety in deep water. What, exactly, would it take to teach that half of your town to swim? It would take a new paradigm. It would take a shift in priorities. On our last show on January 27, we'll talk about the proposal I sent to Shreveport, Louisiana, the city that had 6 teens drown at a barbecue before their parents' eyes. It's a plan to teach every last citizen to swim. It means more than "swimming lessons as usual." If every town adopted this plan, we could end drowning in less than 6 years in your town if its population is 200,000 or less. We'll wrap this 14-week run with the real reason to teach and learn swimming.
