Our midweek #SCstory is by Jay Stansfield (http://soundcloud.com/jaystansfield). He talks about how he's been in touch with appreciative, genuine and honest community members here!
In Deon Vozov's (http://soundcloud.com/deonvozov) #SCstory, she digs deep into the listening and engaging aspects of the 'Cloud. As she says, it's like interacting with another individual's vision.
Hanging on cloud nine, Graciellita (http://soundcloud.com/graciellita) shares her #SCstory in a cool little song, and translates it to German too!
Candle Nine (http://soundcloud.com/candle-nine) has been a longtime SoundCloud member and was nice enough to give us the juicy details of his #SCstory! Have a listen!
In Katie Needs' #SCstory (she's from the fellowship project Sounds of My City), she describes how she went from recording city sounds to audio foodcasting, & finding your niche on the 'Cloud!
David Henderson (http://soundcloud.com/davidhenderson) told us his #SCstory and how he got inspired by another SoundCloud member's field recording of a butcher bird in Australia!
I try to leave comments that highlight the special qualities of the track. I want to let the track's author know which features of their track I most appreciate. Or sometimes I like to offer comments that pertain to the piece as a whole: how it makes me feel, what it makes me think of. I have no comment formula; I just try to post something genuine and meaningful. - Joseph Houck http://soundcloud.com/houckjt
SoundCloud, like Twitter, is one of those things where you only get out of it what you put into it. It sounds cliche but the only way to benefit is to engage others, and therefore invite engagement. I recommend genre-searching or just name-searching for your favorite composers or bands, then see who they follow, and build your list from there. Or search the soundcloud hashtag or @SoundCloud's feed on Twitter or Facebook and see who they're talking about. I also like making cool off-the-beaten-path discoveries, because it sucks to see someone really talented on SoundCloud who doesn't have any followers... it sort of feels like that's the kid by himself on the playground.” - Kerry Muzzey http://soundcloud.com/kerrymuzzey
“I like to see comments that offer advice on tweaking my mix or arrangement, or whether someone was moved to make a comment because they genuinely liked what they heard.” - Gregory Martell. http://soundcloud.com/musiclab
“You put your "creative self" on the line when you post a new track on SC. It takes courage to do it. When I listen to a new track, I respect that by commenting in an honest and encouraging way. The comment is a handshake. It's a first impression. I enjoy making comments as much as I do receiving them. It challenges my creative communication just as much as creating music. It's great fun!” - http://soundcloud.com/michael-garrison
My top 3 uses of private track sharing, in order of usage: 1. Collaborative sharing of track layers 2. Previews of WIPs to friends, for feedback to work back into the music 3. For new releases of tracks that are very important to me, to gain the most exposure most quickly. To be used as such sparingly to avoid becoming a serial spammer. - Oliver Sadie http://soundcloud.com/oliversadie
