 024 – Farewell Episode – Revolution FanCast – The lights are out… | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: Unknown

Subscribe at iTunes It is ironic to come into my studio to produce this podcast and my overhead light wouldn’t come on… I was in the dark.  But, nanites be damned, I only had to replace the light bulb.  If only I could have as easily replaced The Engineer with another sharp, thoughtful and most developed critical thinker when it comes to war gaming on disasters, products, inventions, business ideas, and the political realm with another… maybe… perhaps I may have continued this journey along side “Revolution.” We decided to produce our “Swan Song” as a way to provide a conclusion to our endeavor and not simply have our listeners wonder if the power had just gone out and never came back on. In this episode, you will learn the reasons for this decision and, of course, some side windings we take down the path of “what would you do?”  We grapple to tie a bow on the logic and intuition warring with each other to come to a rational conclusion. I, for one, focused on my devotion to speak power to truth to my listeners and even with the show may veer away from my initial reason to podcast; I believe we offered a unique perspective beyond the mere field of “fanboy reviews.” Hopefully, you, as a listener have been introduced to a different way to view the world, even through the filter of TV fantasy, maybe you will determine to take that path least trodden and apply your curiosity to learning new skills and preparing a way to thrive, as a friend would say, “when times get tough or even if they don’t.” I (Jake) have determined to launch a new podcast right in the heart of the skills it would take to live in a world like “Revolution” and will be launching it in the near future.  The new podcast is related to the website 13 skills – This site is a place where you can go and set your own goals to learn self-reliant skills and how to put yourself into a position to thrive when the systems we are used to break down or are derailed due to outside forces beyond your control. I have secured http://www.13skillspodcast.com and have received encouragement from the founder of 13skills.com to develop my intent to offer a one-stop shop to learn new skills one at a time.  Check back to see if the site is ready to go.   I intend to interview those who have reached a level of proficiency with a new skill to those who may be master teachers of that skill and then go farther; Offer the best videos, blogs, books and other resources to dive in and take the best approach to learn skills to improve your quality of life. Whether it’s learning to use a firearm, keeping bees to canning food, a place to get the tools and get equipped to face tough times.  13skills.com is where you can lay out your goals; connect with others who may become your mentors, peers or simply another friend in that community.  It will be a fun journey as you are opened to a new world of adventure in real life. 13skills.com has over 150 self-reliant and life skills to help you get better at what you know or start fresh with a new discipline – go check it out  and open up an account and start learning.  In the meantime, please leave us a comment and let us know how you feel about this decision. I believe, and so does The Engineer, the freedom we yearn to express in the greatest country on earth is only viable when people are free to take care of themselves with the knowledge, skill and application to get the job done. This is why the slogan for 13skillspodcast is this: Learn Skills, Build Community, PreserveLiberty If you were able to get a taste of this mindset through RevolutionFanCast then I encourage you to head over to both sites and get started.  If you would like to be notified of the inaugural podcast then add your name to our contact form and I will notify you when the time comes.

023 Revolution FanCast – “The Dark Tower” Season Finale | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 1:43:18

Subscribe at iTunes Episode 23 – The Dark Tower We pick up where we left off – Miles & Bass pointing coil guns at each other. Politics makes strange war-fellows. Subterranean River – “You first prick.” Nora manages to stay put while Miles & Bass find themselves on the “beach.” Randall busts up “George W” to retrieve a hidden pass card. Dan: “Your friends are gone – you’re our guest but you’re dead if you try for level 12.” Neville keeps Franklin waiting.  Neville pretends he is above the ruthless nature of Monroe.  Even more devious by staging a fake assault by Major Franklin. Monroe waits for Miles to wake up to start beating the crap out of him. Militia takes shot at both… Then takes another shot at Bass when he announces who he is… oops! Flashback 10 years after the blackout – reminiscing then bomb hits. Meanwhile, Aaron is snooping around in the code and discovers his code is what he wrote at MIT.   University sold his code to DoD.  It is the tower’s operating system. Neville decides to blast the blast doors.  Jason “Sorry sir, but my head is spinning at how fast your switch sides.” Next, Neville’s speech has no compelling reason for Jason to abide, except maybe to guarantee Charlie & Rachel’s safety. Meanwhile, Rachel tries to guilt trip Grace into going along with level 12 breach. Denied.  Grace rejects the offer – then puts Grace to sleep and takes her pass code. Flashback 10 years after blackout – Miles wakes up to Bass & Nora – Monroe shows his first ruthless act – killed his wife and kids and draped the US flag over the coffin to make an example Meanwhile, Aaron explains his backdoor to Rachel but Charlie doesn’t get it. Determines it was accessed on purpose to launch nanites. Bass open tackles Miles and continues fisticuffs.  Miles walks away and then they have a heart-to-heart about Miles assassination attempt – copter shows up trying to kill Bass, they split up and Bass gets a solid in the chin from militia thug. Nora confronts Rachel about her and Miles but suggests Miles will choose her every time. Neville has worse-for-wear Monroe and explains there has been a change in management. Neville is great at going from a smile to a scowl in an instant. Blasted door reveals an opening. Neville, “Sir, I could never say this under your employ, but you have become foolish and deranged and you have a borderline erotic fixation on Miles Matheson” Neville: “Can’t just shoot people in the face.” Jason fetches Neville to the opening to the Tower. Team Charlie set a trap for Dan & Company but they discover it…Nora pulls out a hat trick and sets off the trip wire with a bowling fire extinguisher.  The irony. Nora is mortally wounded.  Why doesn’t Rachel do the noble thing and dig the Christmas Tree Capsule out of her knee to save Nora’s life? Miles shows up in Monroe’s tent and cuts his rope… “You’re asking the wrong question, bass, ask me why I couldn’t… we’re still brothers” then, “Run Bass, - Monroe’s escaping!” Was it his last noble deed or just using Bass for distraction? Grace wakes up and stumbles into “Don’t I know you?” from Neville. Sophie’s choice – Rachel always choose mission over family.  Nora doesn’t help. Charlie – “Danny’s dead, mom but I’m here.” Charlie comes under attack – Miles stabs militia. Miles won’t leave Nora.   Miles and Charlie attempt to get Nora to infirmary but she dies in his arms. Neville bumps into Rachel and Aaron – “Yeah, because you’re so honest.” Miles interrupts and buys time to get into the control room. Hex dumps and why this bothered the Engineer. The biggest return on any keyboard. Just do it Aaron… devil on her shoulder. Lights come back on – Foster doesn’t waste any time. Monroe in a lighting storm. Randall access main control room and damages entry with weapon. Portly friend. “When you burn down the old,

Check out our “bloopers” reel (at the end of the podcast) as we mess up the opening about 3 times! Opens, Rachel with pulled pin on grenade – militia man wrestles it away and tosses Aaron must assume she’s dead. Meanwhile, Charlie Company lands about 4 miles from tower. Jason gives Charlie cold shoulder – Neville:  “Women.” Monroe takes group with Rachel & Randall to the tower door – Rachel granted access – did the “Mole People” know there would be more people than just Rachel when she came or did they make a mistake?  Why let anyone in if you’re supposed to be the “Keeper of Level 12?” Randall confirms my earliest suspicions – “It’s a Super Collider.” Randall speculating on “who else could it be.” Next 3rd guy questions Monroe’s logic – Next 2nd and he get locks out. Mole People leader “welcomes” crew. Team Charlie finds Aaron with a Bic lighter reading manual… Aaron freaked a bit by Neville. Randall show’s off non-level 12 miracles…. All satellites are working and can spy on anyone anywhere, even kill them if you get level 12 access. Miles gets on Aaron for not stopping Rachel. Neville gets smart with “chubs” – Aaron says he can get in with the book “You Dick.” Elevator working, Monroe group goes down but stops on 11 – Mole People come out blasting with Electromagnetic blasters. Rachel and Monroe wind up in Cheney’s bunker – hand-to-gland combat then mind games. Neville & Jason take out yet another pendant amp… why? They use multiple grenades… while Aaron is using a 64 character override, Neville & Jason are pinned down – a few grenades would come in handy here, eh? Really, only a string of 32 – two character pairs to override the military’s most important installation? Monroeoffers the olive branch to Rachel & uses a bit of psyco-dictator woo-woo on Rachel. Rachel’s long-blinks and corner-mouth wrinkles always gives her away. Monroefinds weapons and causes a flashback to Ben & Rachel. Rachel hints this is their last week together. Neville & Jason gets captured. Neville messes with New Next 2nd. Charlie Company arrives at 11 and findsMonroe’s party devastated. Mole People are hot on they’re trail. Aaron:  "God, are those monkeys?" Charlie Company escapes in air duct. Rachel & Monroe have heart-to-heart –Monroeadmits blood on his hands. 4 month after black out – Ben finally gets pendant-enabled computer working – Rachel is distraught for killing 90% of the population.  Is she suicidal? In the meantime in the background Grace signs on to Ben’s newly working computer. Aaron saw “Coil Guns” on Myth Busters. They head to empty armory. Neville makes a play for revolt with Captain Baker. Jason offers 3rd party endorsement. Does this mean if Neville pulls it he is then against the Rebels and theGeorgiaRepublic? Miles knifes Mole guy and gets his coil gun, “Nice.” Rachel sees Charlie on the monitor – enough to get guns unlocked. Monroesaves the day for Aaron & Charlie, “A thank you would be nice.” Monroe + Rachel = discombobulated Charlie. Monroe & Miles come Coil to Coil to “Settle up,” Charlie Company gets tour of the Tower Lair – what are the windows about? Grace makes an appearance.  Nice background music. Who is Dan? Dan burns Dr. Warren’s handbook. Captain Baker agrees to Neville’s offer and lets them go. Baker gives Neville his handgun and says get rid of “Franklin” – New Next 2nd. The lights will come on or the earth catches on fire. Previews: Monroe is still alive. Aaron hits “enter” button – Lighting storm around Monroe. Quick update on my workshop in Ft.Worth with Jack Spirko from The Survival Podcast – How would you like to create a backyard garden that you will never have to water again?

 014 “The Stand” – Second Season Primere | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 1:25:22

Subscribe at  iTunes NBC's Revolution makes it's return after a 4 month hiatus.  "The Stand" depicts the Rebel Forces as they use mere long rifles against the power of mini-gun mounted choppers and air-to-ground rockets. In this episode we cover a range of topics as listed below: Walk-in Cooler Retreat Aaron in coffin Miles "I saw your body" to Rachel - He believed she was dead? Jason and father, Neville finally duke it out - does Jason join the rebels? New character - John Seaborne - a pre-blackout work colleague of Rachel - will he save the day with his awesome weapons? Seaborne subdues Miles and Rachel with his pendant-energized "Sonic Gun." Meanwhile, Randall has grace in "The Tower" trying to get down to subterranean "Level 12." Is this a "Super Collider" and is this the secret to turning the world's power back on? Randall's henchman - Austin just chillin' out and browsing a Maxim magazine - funny! Rebels get a pep-talk and are reminded that Monroe won't do what the Germans, Russians and Al-Qaeda couldn't do.  Finally, someone with the guts to remind us that America is great! Neville informs Monroe his son is dead ("to me" - at least that's what he should have said.  Will this come back to haunt Neville if Jason ruins his dad's plan and gets Neville in hot water again with Monroe? Miles charges into the fight with a shoulder-mounted rocket launcher but makes a rookie mistake and hesitates to fire on the first chopper as he is "distracted" by the second chopper... Really? Danny saves the day and picks up the rocket launcher and blows the chopper out of the sky... what happens to the second chopper with no "amplifier?" Danny takes four in the chest and goes out like Scarface                 What the heck?  Rachel does postmortem impromptu surgery on Danny's body and digs out a mysterious Blinking Blue Pill... is this the magic Christmas Tree Light we've all been waiting for? Much tension between Miles and Rachel with their weird "Forehead bump/kiss" and the kiss between Miles and  Nora once they get out of the coffins and away from Philly... why did Miles open his eyes and look at Rachel during his kiss?  Awwwkward         The Engineer and me also discuss many topics of the day that we connected the dots to the "world of  Revolution:" North Korea's growing ability to launch an EMP-enabled Nuke from space...             Want to track NoKo's satellite LIVE?  013 – Dr. William Forstchen – Author – “One Second After” | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: Unknown

Subscribe at  iTunes Dr William Forstchen – author of  “One Second After” gave a riveting interview and is  one of our highlights of this podcast as we  discuss at length what EMP is and how he  created a novel that has captivated an audience with his realistic portrayal of “life after an EMP.” Dr. Forstchen fields a wide range of questions from The Engineer and me as we dig into the effects and possibilities of Electromagnetic Pulse, Coronal Mass Ejection and the pop culture risk for those who choose to ignore the growing danger as our enemies are working to make this happen. If you have wondered what it would be like after the lights go out,  rest assured,  the show, Revolution scarcely depicts what would happen in the early days - the first 12 months - when 75% to 90% of our population would perish due to starvation, disease and dehydration, as well as civil unrest and violence. Dr. Fortschen's book gives a frighteningly realistic and chilling view of what might happen - set in a small town in North Carolina and how this small town faces the realization the lights are not coming back on and food, medicine, transportation and energy are running out with no help from the outside. How does this relate to the show?  If the TV series ever dedicated a full episode or three on the weeks and months just after the power goes down you would have a deeper appreciation for those who are still alive and scratching out a living 15 years on in the Monroe Republic. We discuss the threat of North Korea's efforts to create a society-killing EMP weapon as well as Russia's efforts to improve on the technology by creating a "Super EMP" weapon.  011 Davidson Scott EMP Expert interview | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 1:27:48

EMP (Electromagnetic Pulse) - Is it a Real Threat? Subscribe at  iTunes Today we interview: Davidson A. Scott,  MS, P.E. EMP/Electromagnetics Consultant Here are some of the topics discussed: Nuclear EMP - the history of nuclear testing and discovery of EMP effect EMP - What is it, what is it NOT? TEST 184 Russian -  Solar EMP -  The physics of a Solar EMP (note:  you don't need a Faraday cage for a solar EMP!) -  Non-Nuclear EMP - A recent test by Boeing may be relevant -  "Hollywood" EMP -  "everything taken out"  (Can one single detonation well-placed and magnitude take out the entire grid) Is there any part of the current grid that would be protected? Does the US Gov’t have any power generation plants that are "EMP-Proof?” John Kappenman – solar weather expert What is your opinion on how much of the gov’t depts will have operability? Are nuclear power plants hardened?  Do plants have an auto-shut down to prevent melt down if power is lost? EMP - The threat Translation of "EMP Terms" into layman's terms The "Electro"  part and the "Magnetic" part of an Electromagnetic Pulse Difference between a solar storm and an EMP (and some similarities) EMP - What are people doing about it around the world? - Government responses - military/civil - US Military - MIL STD 188-125 1/2 - Civil Response (utilities/others) EMP - what can YOU do? - How does EMP Energy damage equipment and electronics? - The rich can build bunkers that meet mil-spec.   What can you build on a budget? Technical aspects of a bunker - Shielding vs. Logistical spares - Can a metal trashcan be used as a Faraday Cage? - Why will an EMP-trashcan not work?  (Conducted vs. radiated emissions) - What can make an EMP trashcan work "better" - no guarantees, except "better"EMP - Solar Panels - Can you harden a PV system? - How do you do it? Davidson specializes in Electromagnetics including Electromagnetic Pulse (EMP) Effects Electromagnetic Interference (EMI), Radio Frequency Interference (RFI), and Electromagnetic Field (EMF) Effects and Human Safety.  He earned an MS degree in Systems Engineering from Virginia Tech and a BSEE from Virginia Military Institute.   He has worked in Electromagnetics for most of his nearly 30 year career which has included military service, flight testing of low-observable platforms, wireless design and electromagnetic/EMP consulting around the world.  Davidson is a registered Professional Engineer in many states and regularly consults in all areas of Electromagnetics. His project experience includes numerous projects domestically for DOD, Industrial Concerns, and Private Citizens.  Around the world he has consulted for EMP-concerned countries like Israel and South Korea on aspects of hardening their defense and civil infrastructure. Davidson is here to try to help remove the hype and describe the nature of the threat and how to assist individuals who have a concern about EMP in developing solutions that will work for them.  010 Revolution FanCast – Nobody’s Fault but Mine Season Finale | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 1:37:45

Subscribe at  iTunes Revolution Season Finale - Nobody's Fault but Mine Note:  We will continue to podcast during the hiatus and bring you interviews with experts on the subject of Grid Failure as well as compelling information on why you should consider what you would do if the power went off and never came back on… See you next week! Show Notes: The show opens with a flashback of Miles and Monroe in a fire fight with some unknown enemy - Monroe cracks a joke that because bullets were being rationed that before long they would be fighting with swords and they both bust out laughing... irony - but it proves the theory that bullets keep getting more scarce. NBC featured the character "Wheatley" in episode nine "Ties That Bind".  Wheatley was a Militia spy that had fallen in with a Rebel camp.  He began informing the Militia about the encampment and advocate for a surprise attack.  However he is left wondering why he does not get support.  When Miles comes to town he decides this is his ticket to"go home" and get his reward for capturing the "great Miles".  Of course, he fails... but check out his back-story at  FootNote on their Revolution site To Major Daniel Christensen, Monroe Militia I&I                                                                                             March 3rd I sewed up a flag today. A bright, spangled red, white and blue. The last item on a long list of the gut-turning things I've had to do to stay here. Cover yourself with enough flies and you'll fit in with the pigs. Last week, they promoted me. I'm a sergeant in their little crackerjack operation. I'm a higher rank in the rebellion than I ever was in the Militia. The voice in the back of my head says that'll change when something comes of this assignment, but what if I'm found out before then? Your inaction is already costing lives. I don't want mine to be one of them. - Wheatley Bass reveals the Monroe Militia is on the verge of an all out border war with the Georgia Republic Did you catch the LIBERTY BELL in the background just after Monroe says to Neville "I don't Run?"  You have to wonder why it was left intact since American Flags are an anathema Charlie and Rachel (Mom) are reunited - but is doesn't go so swell... Miles gets the drop on Neville with a sword at the throat of Neville's wife... Strausser gives Rachel a choice:  "Do I kill your son or your daughter"  - What is he trying to prove? Charlie gets the drop on the guard... Finally - Rachel gets the "amplifier" working and now there's no stopping Monroe Miles Vs Monroe - The best sword fight of the season... Miles "dumps" Monroe - He devastates Monroe' design to bring Miles back into the fold... Best Payoff of the Season:  Rachel stabs Strausser with his sword... How does Charlie Company get away from a chopper with mini-guns spinning up? EMP Grenade: "The technology is out there" One Respected Scientist* Says A ‘Solar Maximum’ Event Could  Spark Food Riots and Meltdowns? American physicist & co-founder of the string theory,* Dr. Michio Kaku:  “Solar flares are like bullets fired into space, so far we’ve dodged the bullets.”             Next Week:  EMP Expert Davidson Scott on how vulnerable we are to Grid-Down situations and what we can do about it.
