COPD Awareness – Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 60:00

A discussion of COPD, or "chronic obstructive pulmonary disease," is a condition that affects the lungs. It includes chronic bronchitis, emphysema, or both. COPD symptoms include breathlessness and symptoms can worsen over time. As the disease gets worse, people find it more difficult to breathe. As a result, simple tasks, like dressing or bathing, can be hard to perform. Chronic bronchitis occurs when airways become irritated and inflamed. This causes thick mucus to form. The mucus makes it harder for air to get into and out of the lungs. Emphysema occurs when tiny air sacs in the lungs get stretched out and break down. As a result, old air gets stuck in the sacs so there's no room for new air to get in.

Sexual Physiology: What Happens & Why & How to Make It Better | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 60:00

Mary Roach is not like other science writers. She doesn't write about genes or black holes or Schrödinger's cat. Instead, she ventures out to the fringes of science, where the oddballs ponder how cadavers decay (in her debut, Stiff) and whether you can weigh a person's soul (in Spook). In Bonk she explores the sexiest subject of all: sex, and such questions as, what is an orgasm? How is it possible for paraplegics to have them? Roach's ever-present eye and ear for the absurd and her loopy sense of humor make her a delectable guide through this unesteemed scientific outback. The payoff comes with subjects like female orgasm (yes, it's complicated), and characters like Ahmed Shafik, who defies Cairo's religious repressiveness to conduct his sex research. Roach's forays offer fascinating evidence of the full range of human weirdness, the nonsense that has often passed for medical science and, more poignantly, the extreme lengths to which people will go to find sexual satisfaction.

“What’s THAT, Honey?" Intimate Partners & Skin Cancer | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 60:00

Christopher Springmann discusses on how intimate partners, family members & friends often find skin and other cancers in those hard to see dark recesses and skin folds. Skin is the largest organ in the body and it’s everywhere, especially in hard-to-reach, dark places and recesses , areas that the “owner” cannot see, without some inspired help from a partner, relative, friend or especially, a dermatologist. Skin cancer isn’t the only cancer discovered by intimate partners, as breast, testicular, anal and oral cancers are often detected; hence the name of the show, “What’s THAT, honey?” A case history of reggae star Bob Marley’s deadly Malignant melanoma is especially instructive, as he ignored a correct diagnosis and the suggestion of a toe amputation in favor of following his Rastafarian cultural and spiritual beliefs.
