 LOLLIPOP'S ROLLER DISCO ARMAGEDDON | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 01:05:13

Before drum machines, before MIDI, and before samplers there were beautiful records created by talented musicians.  During the period of ’78-’79, the foundation for the soon to emerge Hi-NRG, Boogie & House genres were being laid.  Lollipop’s Roller Disco Armageddon is a musical snapshot of this period - taken just barely before “cool” became cliché.  This mix perfectly captures the glossy, last gasps of a genre soon decimated by commercialization.Of course, no official roller disco soundtrack would be complete without soaring, symphonic strings, scratchy guitar, plucky bass and sexy, growling horns.  The unique experience of the amplified disco sound in the roller rink is also accurately re-created with the assistance of a custom-programmed acoustic reverb mirror.  This podcast mix faithfully highlights songs that packed the skating rink floor and raised the energy level through the roof.  With an incredible playlist mostly exiled from pop-disco radio programs, many of these “one hit wonders” and the rare 12 inch versions had to be lovingly transferred from my personal vinyl collection to authentically recreate a magical Saturday night at the legendary Hub Axle Roller Rink.I know you’ll enjoy this mix.  For some of you, it’ll bring back heart-warming memories and for those who missed it, here is your contextually-correct opportunity to experience it for the first time.  Lace 'em up tight – it’s an “All Skate Armageddon!”LOLLIPOP’S ROLLER DISCO ARMAGEDDONHub Axle Roller Rink IntroTuxedo Junction - Chattanooga Choo ChooBryan Adams - Let Me Take You DancingPeaches & Herb - Roller-Skatin' MateIsaac Hayes - Don't Let GoLipps, Inc. - Rock ItCheryl Lynn - Star LoveAmii Stewart - Knock On WoodLeon Heywood - Don't Push It Don't Force ItThe Brothers Johnson - StompThe Spinners - Working My Way Back To YouDan Hartman - VertigoDan Hartman ft Loleatta Holloway - Relight My FireDebbie Jacobs - High On Your LoveDeniece Williams - I've Got the Next DanceDon Ray - Got To Have LoveBonnie Pointer - I Can't Help MyselfBonnie Pointer - Heaven Must Have Sent YouVoyage - From East To WestMichael Jackson - Working Day And NightDebbie Jacobs - Hot Hot (Give It All You Got)Front Page ft Sharon Redd - Love InsuranceLa Flavour - MandolayEvelyn Champagne King - ShameThe Isley Brothers - It's A Disco NightEdwin Starr - H.A.P.P.Y.  LOLLIPOP’S 1982 TOP TUNE MEDLEY | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 43:10

DJ LOLLIPOP (American DJ & Producer):"Wow!!! I can't believe how many years have gone by since this landmark medley was created.  This was the second vinyl bootleg that I released.  It was released in January 1983.At the time, I was spinning in Chicago at three different clubs… a straight hipster club, an elite gay club and an urban downtown club.  I loved it!  Each club had it’s own format/hits and very few tunes crossed over.  I loved playing down-tempo funk and R&B at a huge straight/urban club on Michigan Ave, pop and disco at an intimate straight/white club on Division Street and high energy and new wave at a chic, trendy gay club on Oak Street. Back in the early 80's, the nightclubs in Chicago did not cater to mixed groups of clientele yet… but the music did start to bring diverse groups of people together.  Some tunes would cross-over from one crowd to another like The Message by Grandmaster Flash which I played for months in the black club before it crossed over to white clubs, or Native Love by Divine which was a smash at the gay club before it crossed over to the straight clubs. In hindsight, the black clubs and gay clubs helped make songs pop crossovers.  I kept this in mind when arranging the song order.I tried something new in this production – I used every dance hit that came out in 1982 –every single one of them. Black, white, straight, gay – any tune that made a crowd dance – regardless of it’s makeup, was included.  This led to some very eclectic (and surprisingly fun) song transitions.  Like the 1981 & 1987 medleys, this was all done with a pair of Technics 1200’s, a TEAC two track recorder, a razor blade and miles and miles of magnetic recording tape. When originally released on vinyl, the medley was broken up into two sections for a twelve inch record “A” and “B” side.  Here they have been edited together for your non- stop enjoyment.  Many of the songs in this production still pack a dance floor today – while others have faded almost into oblivion.  It's a good thing they are represented here and their place in dance music history accounted for. I know you will love listening to this and I hope it bring back some great memories! For those of you too young to have experienced this in the clubs... too bad - it was an naive, adventurous, awesome time for music and probably the most memorable and magical time in my life."LOLLIPOP'S 1982 TOP TUNE MEDLEY (Side 1):Intro: Barb Walsh & Larry AndersenSexual Healing – Marvin GayeLet’s Go Dancing – Kool & The GangGenius Of Love – Tom Tom ClubThe Message – Grandmaster Flash & The Furious 5Mirror Mirror – Diana RossThat Girl – Stevie WonderIllusion - ImaginationA Night To Remember – ShalamarMama Used To Say – JuniorI Can’t Go For That – Hall & OatesLoves Coming At Ya – Melba MooreDo I Do – Stevie WonderWalking On Sunshine – Rockers RevengeBody Slam – Bootsy CollinsDon’t Make Me Wait – Peech BoysTry Jah Love – Third WorldInside Out - OdysseyCircles – Atlantic StarrThis Beat Is Mine – Vicki DWork That Sucker To Death – XavierSo Fine – Howard JohnsonBoogie In Your Butt – Eddie MurphyIt’s Alright – Gino SoccioIn The Raw – WhispersShould've Been You – Gwen GuthrieCalling All Boys – The FlirtsSooner Or Later – Larry GrahamI’ll Do My Best For You Baby – Ritchie FamilyForget-Me-Nots – Patrice RushenI Specialize In Love – Sharon BrownKeep On – D TrainGlad To Know You – Chas JenkelIn The Name Of Love – Thompson TwinsSituation – YazooYou’re The One For Me – D TrainThanks To You – SinnamonThe Look Of Love – ABCLove Come Down – Evelyn KingDon’t You Want Me – Human LeagueMurphy’s Law – CheriCall Me – Skyy1999 – PrinceYou’ve Got The Power - WarCan’t Believe – Nancy MartinezLive It Up – Time BanditsTell Me That I’m Dreaming – Was (Not Was)Loopzilla – George ClintonDance Or Die – Sweet Pea AtkinsonShake It Up – Rick JamesFall Into A Trance – Jimmy RossEverybody – MadonnaKnock Me Out – Gary’s GangLove Is A Drug – Ronnie GriffithEarly In The Morning – Gap BandTime – StonePassion – The FlirtsDirty Talk – Klein & MBOFlame Thrower – J. Not all the music that is currently being released is great.  A majority of it with its aggressive, staccato synth stabs, uninspired 128 BPM tempo and lack of “song” comes off like so much repetitive clap-track on a fast road to nowhere. What’s a DJ with high standards to do?  The answer is “dig in the crates!!!”I've been exploring my prized music collection for a few recent gigs and have cherry-picked a rare selection of tunes to craft a modern-yet-retro homage to the incredible 80’s.  It is so much fun to see people react to rarely played classics and sing along with their favorites that have been sonically updated.  Add in some current songs that have an unmistakable 80’s alternative vibe to them and violà!  It has become a great set to spin live, and, a hell of a lot of fun to experience.Enjoy LOLLIPOP'S 80's RETRO REVIVAL - 2012 MODERN MIX a blend of rowdy, randy & intoxicating party songs with a sophisticated twist that celebrate some of the rarer eighties club classics.  Awesome!LOLLIPOP'S 80's RETRO REVIVAL - MODERN MIXCulture Club - Do You Really Want To Hurt Me (Lolli’s Private Mix)David Guetta ft The Proclaimers - 500 Miles (Schmolli Mix)Deadmau5 ft Chris James - The Veldt (Main Mix)Ricky Martin & GLEE - La Isla Bonita (Main Mix)Gang of Four - I Love a Man In a Uniform (Sonic Mix)Kate Bush - Running Up That Hill (Lollipop’s Private Mix)Florence & The Machine - Spectrum (Calvin Harris Mix)U2 - With or Without You (Clinton Sparks Mix)Paul van Dyk feat Arty - The Ocean (Main Mix))Coldplay ft Rihanna - Princess of China (Invisible Men Mix)Alphaville - Big in Japan (12 Inch Mix)Lana Del Ray - National Anthem (Todd Terry Mix)Tom Tom Club - Genius Of Love (12 Inch Mix)Will Young - I Just Want a Lover (Main Mix)David Bowie - Fashion (Lollipop’s Private Mix)P!NK - Blow Me (One Last Kiss) (Fred Falke Mix)AC/DC - Shook Me All Night Long (Joey B Mix)Scissor Sisters - Let's Have A Kiki (Main Mix)Gossip - Perfect World (RAC Mix)ABC - The Look Of Love (Lollipop’s Private Mix)Ellie Goulding – Lights (Rollin Stars Mix)Example ft R.E.M - The One I Love (Hi-fi BS Mix)Swedish House Mafia ft John Martin - Don't You Worry Child (Main Mix)Donna Summer - She Works Hard For The Money (Lollipop’s Private Mix)

Not all the music that is currently being released is great.  A majority of it with its aggressive, staccato synth stabs, uninspired 128 BPM tempo and lack of “song” comes off like so much repetitive clap-track on a fast road to nowhere.  What’s a DJ with high standards to do?  The answer is “dig in the crates!!!” I've been exploring my prized music collection for a few recent gigs and have cherry-picked a rare selection of tunes to craft a modern-yet-retro homage to the incredible 80’s.  It is so much fun to see people react to rarely played classics and sing along with their favorites that have been sonically updated.  Add in some current songs that have an unmistakable 80’s alternative vibe to them and violà!  It has become a great set to spin live, and, a hell of a lot of fun to experience.  VOL 1: LOLLIPOP’S EDM MIX | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 41:39

"This is it, look no further. This single is going to change the sound of club music for the next 15 years" - Brian Eno to David Bowie in 1977 after hearing "I Feel Love".Indeed, Eno was quick to recognize the ingenuity and potential of Donna Summer's "I Feel Love", with its clinical, pulsating bass line, hypnotically vocal, and entirely synthesized rhythm that dispensed with the lush orchestral sound which, until then, had been an integral part of the disco sound.  History has proven that the slick, sequencer-driven recording produced by Giorgio Moroder & Pete Bellotte was a pioneering masterpiece of EDM that didn't just revolutionize disco, but change the blueprint for dance music forever. That one song with its thick beats, soaring synths, hypnotic rhythms and dreamy vocals is still the blueprint for electronic dance music (some 35 years later!)  Explore the music that is blurring lines between artist, DJ and producer with Volume 1 of Lollipop's EDM 2012.  See how far we've come.VOL1:  LOLLIPOP’S EDM MIXScissor Sisters - Only the Horses (Calvin Harris Mix)Tulisa - We Are Young (Alias Mix)Jason Derulo - Breathing (Mike Rizzo Mix) Paul Oakenfold ft J Hart - Surrender (Flesh & Bone Mix)Rihanna - Where Have You Been (Cosmic Dawn Mix)Morgan Page ft Nadia Ali - Carry Me (Original Mix)Rebecca Ferguson - Glitter and Gold (Fever Pitch Mix)Afrojack & Shermanology - Can't Stop Me (Afrojack Mix)Ferry Corsten ft Ben Hague - Ain't No Stoppin' (Original Mix)Inna - Endless (Snatt & Vix Mix)Katy Perry - Part Of Me (Freemasons Mix)Tiesto & Wolfgang Gartner ft Luciana - We Own the Night (Original Mix)Demi Lovato - Give Your Heart a Break (Alias Mix)Alexandra Burke ft Erick Morillo - Elephant (Original Mix)
