I had a real good time putting it together, and had fun with some of the transitions so they might seem a little longer than unusal in a couple places but I was really enjoying the tracks. So here’s how I was feeling on New Years Day… a mixture of feelings and vibez in here, this one is purely personal. New Years Eve didn’t end up being quite what I had hoped it would be, but it was nice all the same. I eased my way gently into the New Year really, nothing crazy, nothing excessive, so lets see if that makes a difference shall we. I had a different plan for this mix… it was going to be a deep tech adventure with some diverse off center beats, but I can't seem to settle on the intro track, usually by biggest issue to be honest. I had started a folder of chunage that I considered my personal little stash of oddities or vocals that actually mean something to me, or just percussive madness, and I glanced at it real quick on New Years Day and thought… eh??? This might actually work. So… I went in, and I kinda like it. It was perfect for the day, and the mood I was in. I sat back on the balcony, and smoked my last cigarette to this one! Usually I pre the mixes for a week or two before I post them, but because the bandwidth had already opened up, I rushed it in and I’m kinda regretting that now. I did pre the transitions only to make sure they sounded ok, but didn’t listen to the full mix until later… and there seems to be spots where the volume drops low enough for it to be a pain in the arse, and distracting. I swear I didn’t do that intentionally, and really didn’t notice anything while the mix was in progress, but there you have it… my sincerest apologies, maybe I’ll redo and repost this weekend, if the bandwidth allows… Having said all that, here’s the tracklisting: 1. Alrighty then... December 2012, how bout that... managed to squeeze in three mixes for ya. This one came about quickly, surprizing really as most of them fester in my back pocket for quite a while until I'm convinced they're good enough. With this none, I started to compile some deep/techy kinda tracks, evident in the first few, but then managed to craftily segway into more traditinal deep house with the A Lister track... and then it just kept going. i didnt do much prep work like I usually do. This one just kinda happened, previewing and tagging the tracks right before I played them, most of them listening to them for the first time, so considering that, it came out ok. And if you're wondering, the Soulful genre has become somewhat uninspiring as of late... my interest has definately skewed more towards the deep techy kinda feel lately. A little something showcasing the talents of Innervision record label visionaries Ame, Dixon and Schwarz... I've used a couple Schwarz tracks in the past (most recently on Deep 11?). But it really wasn’t until I Heard his Mari Boine remix (Soulful 10?) that I was blown away. Of course there's plenty of remixes to fall back on, the James Brown for example... but stayed away from that. This originally started out as a two hour mix, but the way I had it planned out, showcasing some newer tracks from the label, it really didn’t work so I had to shorten it a bit, and included my favorites rather than forcing the tracks. I had used Kuar before, so here I give u a remix. Boddhi was featured on Secret Weapons, and Rodamaal on the recent Ame Live cd. Again, apologies to those looking for commercial house, you wont find it here, these are tracks that I love to listen to from intro to outro. I've always stayed away from formula driven music. I hated techno, still do I think, but my definition of it I must add. With these guys, we get that German tech/deep edge but with soul oozing throughout, even if there's no vocals, and I love that. Amazing stuff, and incredible how they interpret tracks for the dance floor. I really wanted to use the acoustic version of Osunlade's Envision, but I sense that I've been hammering out Osunlade tracks a bit too much so let it ride this one out. Greetings all, a new Deep mix finally. You can thank Simi for this one, apparently I don’t do enough of them. But if you know me yet, you’ll know I always have something in the works, and this has been marinating for a minute… For this one, I give you 4 cuts by Greek DJ/Producer Argy. I’m new to him and first came across him last year With the release of Fundamentals on Ibadan, “It Feels Good” representing the album. He remixed Osunlade’s Envision… and then Osunlade remixed his “Upon Ourselves”, the lead track on this mix, etc etc etc… and they all fell in line with my intentions for the cd. But anyway, for the Deep heads out there, I’m fine tuning my definition of Deep as I go along, and this is getting pretty close to what I would call my “Back At Mine”. I’m kinda getting a little confused actually, about what deep really is. For me there’s times when a straight tech track fits perfectly and is warranted and I go with it, and I still consider it deep. My Afro sets are pretty deep as far as I’m concerned, and some of the Soulful cuts border on deep. OR is it my mind is somewhere deep when I drop a mix so I call it Deep? Whatever the case, I truly hope you’re enjoying the journey, and the evolution of what is to become a KAS set. Greetings all, a new Deep mix finally. You can thank Simi for this one, apparently I don’t do enough of them. But if you know me yet, you’ll know I always have something in the works, and this has been marinating for a minute… For this one, I give you 4 cuts by Greek DJ/Producer Argy. I’m new to him and first came across him last year With the release of Fundamentals on Ibadan, “It Feels Good” representing the album. He remixed Osunlade’s Envision… and then Osunlade remixed his “Upon Ourselves”, the lead track on this mix, etc etc etc… and they all fell in line with my intentions for the cd. But anyway, for the Deep heads out there, I’m fine tuning my definition of Deep as I go along, and this is getting pretty close to what I would call my “Back At Mine”. I’m kinda getting a little confused actually, about what deep really is. For me there’s times when a straight tech track fits perfectly and is warranted and I go with it, and I still consider it deep. My Afro sets are pretty deep as far as I’m concerned, and some of the Soulful cuts border on deep. OR is it my mind is somewhere deep when I drop a mix so I call it Deep? Whatever the case, I truly hope you’re enjoying the journey, and the evolution of what is to become a KAS set. Here’s today’s special… again, respect to Simi for encouraging me to do this one, and for "approving" it’s release.
