In this episode of the Dating God Podcast we are joined by David Golemboski, a doctoral student in the Government School at Georgetown University in Washington, DC, who specializes in political theory and Catholic Social Teaching. David published an article in a January issue of America magazine titled: "Still 'Presente'? U.S Catholics Should Reconnect with Latin America." David joined Fr. Dan on the podcast to discuss the recent election of Pope Francis and what having a Roman Pontiff from South America might mean for Catholics in the United States and those in other parts of the Americas.

In this episode of the Dating God Podcast we are joined by Julianne Wallace, a campus minister at St. Bonaventure University and someone who is an advocate for the need to focus our attention on Advent during the liturgical season in a renewed way. She speaks a little bit about what that article is about and suggests different ways people might celebrate the season of Advent amid the bustle of commercialized holiday blitz. This episode of the Dating God Podcast features author Chris Haw, who talks about his new book From Willow Creek to Sacred Heart: Rekindling my Love for Catholicism (Ave Maria Press, 2012). Chris, who identifies himself as a husband, father, carpenter, potter, and theologian, is also the founder of Camden House, an intentional community in Camden, NJ. From Willow Creek to Sacred Heart is both an engaging popular book that traces the milestones of Chris's own experience of "returning" to the Catholic Church through his experiences of social justice, solidarity, prayer, and liturgy. Co-author with Shane Claiborne of the best-selling book Jesus for President, Chris has an excellent writing style that is sure to keep each reader engaged, while at the same time presenting some rather substantial theologically grounded insights and considerations.

In this episode of the Dating God Podcast we welcome author Stephen Martin who talks about his book The Messy Quest for Meaning: Five Catholic Practices for Finding your Vocation (Sorin Books, 2012). The book, which has it's own Franciscan connection as you'll hear, focuses on the place of vocation in the lives of all Christians and Martin draws on what he calls 5 practices, largely inspired by the Catholic monastic tradition, to help guide today's Christians on their own "messy quest" to discover their vocations. Additionally, there are two news items including the release of Dan Horan's latest book, Francis of Assisi and the Future of Faith (Tau Publishing, 2012), and a public lecture this week at Hilbert College in Buffalo, NY, titled, "How to 'Prophet' from the Franciscan Tradition: Solidarity and Christian Living in the 21st Century."

This episode of the podcast is dedicated entirely to the diaconate ordination of Br. Frank Critch, OFM, a friar of Holy Name Province. A native of St. John's, Newfoundland, Canada, Br. Frank received permission from the Order to have his ordination to the diaconate in his home town by the Archbishop of St. John's, Newfoundland in September 2012, just a few weeks after his profession of Solemn Vows as a Franciscan friar. Fr. Dan Horan, OFM, and a handful of other friars from Holy Name Province were able to make the trip up to the Great North to celebrate this important milestone in the life of a friar.
