SPECIAL SERVICE HONORING WAYNE B. SMITH We take a look back at one of Wayne's sermons during our services this weekend. No one could laugh at his own jokes more than Wayne all while spreading joy to all those around him.

David was loyal. It showed not only in his friendship with God, but also in his friendship with Jonathon; a friendship that was tested by jealousy and strengthened by honesty.

By mocking Israel’s army, Goliath was mocking God. Though small in stature, David’s heart was as big as Goliath’s sword. This story chronicles what happens when people behave as if they really believe that God is on their side.

A lot like the last kid picked for a team at recess, David found himself being overlooked because he was the youngest brother. But to the surprise of everyone, God hand-picked David because his years in the field protecting sheep taught him a lot about fear and faith.

2,000 years ago, God poured out his Spirit on this world and this church has attempted to bottle him up. What would happen if we stopped trying to control the Spirit and decided to obey it?

Instead of fearing the power of men, Daniel defied it and God blessed him for it. What could happen in our lives and in our city if we would take a quiet, but bold stand against sin?

God commanded Joshua to march around the heavily fortified city of Jericho and as a result of his obedience, God caused the walls to fall down. Accumulating debt seems to be the norm in our culture today, but the weight of it can rob us of sleep, joy, and generosity. The people of Israel cancelled each other’s financial debts every seven years, because they knew how damaging it could be to an individual and to a community. There will be a 7-year challenge for everyone in our church to get out of debt (Deuteronomy 15:1-4).

Forgiveness is at the heart of every healthy relationship. All of us need it from others, but few of us ever want to give it to others. Jesus was asked how many times we should forgive someone who has hurt us and his response was startling. There will be a 7-week challenge to forgive the people who have hurt us and to ask for forgiveness from the people we have hurt. (Matthew 18:21-35)

After working for six days, God rested on the seventh day and commanded his people to do the same. In a world that rewards performance, many of us have lost sight of our need for a regular rhythm of rest. It’s vital to our emotional, physical, and spiritual wellbeing that we follow the example of our Creator and slow down on a weekly basis. There will be a 7th day challenge to take an entire day off from any activity for the sole purpose of resting. (Genesis 1:1-2:4)

Easter reminds us that death isn’t the end of the story. The moment Jesus stepped out of that dusty tomb the ground shook, signaling a new reality that death had been defeated once and for all and that every knee will bow to worship him.
