Southland Weekend Message Series (Video)

All three miracles in Matthew 8 demonstrate Jesus’ ability to alter the future outcome of everything; but none showed it more than his ability to calm the wind and the waves. There were other rabbis who healed people and priests who had the ability to drive demons from people, but there was no one before or after Jesus that controlled the natural world with their words. Just like the disciples, who feared the storm, we will discover that we have no reason to fear the storms we encounter when we place our lives into Jesus' care.

There is a lot of fear and confusion about Satan, demons, and the spiritual war taking place in our world today. Although we cannot be naïve about the subtle and sinister influence of Satan, we must also understand that Satan is not equal in power with God. As we unpack Jesus’ encounter and subsequent exorcism of the two demon possessed men in Gadarene, we will begin to trace the origin of God’s relationship with Satan and see the limited nature of Satan’s power.

From healing the leper to responding to request of the Roman Centurion, Jesus was showing his love for those that were considered outcasts at the time. For those of us who do not feel worthy of the love of Jesus, Matthew 8 reveals hope and inclusion. Jesus’ power can change anything and everything in our lives that threatens our vitality. The first 13 verses of Matthew 8 are like a trailer we see in a movie theatre - they whet the appetite and make us want to see more of what's to come.

We can't eat, we can't sleep, we can't think - all we're really good at is worrying! This week will remind everyone that God is in control and we either believe He is or we don't. Our level of worry will tell us one way or the other if we really believe that He is in control.

In his 12 minute sermon, Jesus spends all of 30 seconds explaining the only real solution to sexual impurity; and even though his response is alarming, as the Creator of sex, He really does know what is best.

Have you ever been angry with someone? What would our world look like and be like if people really chose to forgive the people who have hurt them? What would your life be like? This week, we'll look at the healing power of Forgiveness and what Jesus taught us about forgiveness.

In The Sermon on the Mount, Jesus paints a very clear picture of what it means to follow him. It is a picture that stands in stark contrast to the religion of His day. In just a few short minutes of speaking, Jesus turned the religious world upside down and reorganized everyone's view of who God is and what it means to live for God.

All of us battle temptation. This week, we will explore an incredible episode in the life of Jesus when he ventures into the desert and spends 40 days and nights fasting and praying in preparation for a battle with the Enemy. We'll uncover the secret to his spiritual success over sin - the Word of God.

As we study Matthew 3, we will see a portrait of John the Baptist and how baptism is a beautiful picture of Jesus death, burial, and resurrection. We will see a beautiful piece of artwork unfold that shows why Jesus came; He came to bring life.

As we study Jesus' early years of life, the pages unfold like the lyrics of a song - almost like a soundtrack. By looking at the struggles Jesus faced during His life, we will be able to see that He really can relate to the struggles and hardships we face each day.

As we continue to examine the book of Matthew, we will see how God works as a skilled craftsman; taking what is seemingly scraps and broken pieces and turning it into something of beauty that only He could create.

As we look at the lineage of Jesus, we see beauty, intentionality and inclusivity in the way that God has written Jesus' family tree.
