Twisted South Radio welcomes Lincoln Durham, The Dirt Drifters and Ponty Bone | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 02:00:00

“If you dig Son House and Townes Van Zandt, Lincoln Durham is your man, it don’t come no cooler ”~Ray Wylie Hubbard Lincoln Durham, born in Whitney, Texas. Raised in Itasca. started playing fiddle at the age of four. That’s right, four years old. By eight, Lincoln Durham was performing in fiddle contests all over Arkansas and Oklahoma. In fact, at ten he won the Texas State Youth Fiddle Championship. Come twelve, the young man hooked up a residency with the house band at the Oceola Opry. Then, through his high school years, Lincoln decided to pick up the strat. He started a three-piece band playing who else but Jimi and Stevie Ray. Took a spell, though, and put the guitar on the backburner for a while to pursue art and design. but, a couple years ago, he grabbed a resonator, a slide and an old Gibson j45. He impressed Ray Wylie Hubbard so much with his greasy, nasty sound that Ray signed on to produce his record. The Dirt Drifters play top-drawer country music, bringing vintage sounds and sensibilities up to date in a country landscape hungry to reconnect with its roots. Theirs is music that wears the dust and grit of life's highway, and it's about to be catapulted from the roadhouses to the nation's airwaves, to be cranked in old pick-ups and vintage Cadillacs alike. It is music meant to be experienced by all the senses. Strap yourself in. Ponty Bone-In the Lone Star State, where the squeezebox pervades the musical landscape, Ponty Bone is an authentic Texas accordion King. He's a master of the instrument who has played with some of the state's most influential artists and infused his instrument and talents into a myriad of popular and roots musical styles, in the process winning an international reputation. bios courtesy of http://www.lincolndurham http://www.pontybone http://www.thedirtdrifters.com

Twisted South Radio welcomes Brett Detar & Joecephus and the George Jonestown Massacre | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 02:01:00

Brett Detar is a songwriter, singer, & musician following in the Americana / roots music tradition living in Los Angeles, California. I'M GIVING AWAY MY BRAND NEW RECORD FOR FREE AT BRETTDETAR.COM - please go and sign up to download it for free. He’d be honored if you did. Bird In The Tangle is an authentic roots record that takes its listeners on a sweeping journey across coasts and five cities into fleeting highs and empty houses, bleak street lights and closed eyes, the darkest depths of wanderlust and loneliness. Paying homage to the legacy of story-telling found within America’s own art form of country music-- in all its weepy, pedal-steel steeped, Yes-Hank-woulda-done-it-this-way glory-- Brett Detar lays bare his soul in this stunning solo debut. The album documents one of the loneliest and most doubtful times in singer/songwriter Brett Detar's life. After touring the world full-time, releasing five studio albums on both indie and major labels in a successful indie rock band with his childhood friends for ten years, he found himself with splintered musical attachments, changed life goals, and an uncertain musical future. Blazing a trail out of Memphis, Tennessee, Joecephus and the George Jonestown Massacre are on a roll. Having been referred to as “a cross between Motorhead and Merle Haggard” and having served as opening acts for such diverse artists as Shooter Jennings, David Allan Coe, Jesco White The Dancing Outlaw, Jim Dickinson, Unknown Hinson, Green Jello, Scott Biram, The Reverend Horton Heat,H. R. of the legendary Bad Brains and many more. Joecephus and company are ready for full auditory assault in any venue that can take it. Exhibiting a tireless work ethic, the band has played Honky-tonk venues as well as Punk/ Metal clubs throughout the tri-state area. They have created a unique style by mixing “outlaw” country sounds with rockabilly rhythms in combination with hardcore metal drumbeats, blurring the boundaries of country, metal, and punk.

Twisted South Radio welcomes Shawn Mullins, Lost Bayou Ramblers and Kojii Helnwein | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 02:01:00

Shawn Mullins lives in Atlanta, he writes the songs that you might hear in your friend's car. His most recent song “Light You Up” is topping charts of all genres for months now. “These new songs are character sketches of people I’ve come across and places I’ve traveled through,” says Mullins. “Some of my earlier records were set in specific parts of the country; like the West Coast on Soul’s Core (his 1998 platinum album featuring the indelible hit “Lullaby”). This one is about the South, what has changed and what hasn’t changed. It has to do with what I’m seeing around me, and telling stories that haven’t really been told.” Kojii Helnwein is a musician, actress and a super model having been numerous magazines and has represented fashion giants such as Prada, Jimmy Choo and many more. Kojii also has done acting (Project Runway and Models of the Runway) print, runway and commercial fashion work. Kojii is Irish but spends her time between L.A. and the family castle in Ireland. She is married to Cyril Helnwein, fine-art photographer, who is the son of the classic and timeless world re-known Irish-Austrian painter, photographer, installation and performance artist, Gottfried Helnwien. Her band “Kojii” has a raw, metallic, punk sound to it. Lost bayou Ramblers will also be on this show with their down-home Cajun French Zydeco music. They perform in English and Cajun French. Over the past 300 years, a cultural amalgam has been percolating in south Louisiana. The resulting cultural distillate gave rise to both Bayou Country's world famous cuisine and a musical concentrate that conveys the passions, tribulations, and elations of the Cajun people. At the dawn of the twenty-first century, the Lost Bayou Ramblers are the keepers of the flame, champions of Cajun music's cultural past. "If accordians, fiddles and pedal steel guitars were weapons, these guys could simply slay you." -Glenny Brock, Birmingham Weekly, Birmingham, AL

Danny B. Harvey and the Queen of Rockabilly, Wanda Jackson | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 02:01:00

Twisted South Radio welcome blues guitar wizard Danny B. Harvey and the Legendary Queen of Rock and First Lady of Rockabilly, Miss Wanda Jackson on Jan. 12, 2011. Danny B. Harvey has a relationship with his guitar and shares that with the world, from producing Wanda Jackson music to playing with the Headact, the world’s only rockabilly supergroup with Lemmy Kilmister of Motorhead and Slim Jim Phantom of the Stray Cats. He is currently on tour and also plays in a group called the Lonesome Spurs with Lynda Kay Parker. When Wanda Jackson, the justly crowned Queen of Rockabilly, recorded “Let’s Have A Party,” a tune she made into a hit of her own in 1958 even after one-time boyfriend Elvis Presley had released a version of it, her delivery of the chorus wasn’t so much a suggestion as a command. As the title – and, more importantly, the contents -- of her latest album, The Party Ain’t Over, indicates, this feisty septuagenarian artist is as galvanizing as ever. Jackson was recently inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, honored with a long-time-coming, Early Influence accolade for her pivotal role in the evolution of popular music, especially where female artists were concerned. As a teenager in the mid-50s, the diminutive Jackson was the first woman to perform unadulterated rock and roll – and she one-upped the boys defining this new genre, Presley included, with her exhilaratingly forthright approach. The young Jackson, an Oklahoma native, came across as both gritty and glamorous; a playfully suggestive growl to her voice matched the daring, handmade outfits she wore, short skirts and fringed dresses that have inspired would-be bad girls for decades to come. A tireless touring artist for more than 50 years, Jackson continues to win over new, young fans, including guitarist-vocalist-White Stripes founder Jack White. courtesy of http://www.wandajackson.com
