Free Agent Underground
Summary: The Free Agent Underground show is hosted by Kevin Miller, along with co-hosts Chuck Bowen and Justin Lukasavige as they profile the realities and real life characters of the free agent world. Free agency is not about work...but about a lifestyle. A lifestyle where you are living a life of purpose, passion and meaning. Where you set the priorities of your day, week, month, year and life. Where you wrap your work...around your life. Self-employment is the foundational tool. The only problem with self-employment is merely...self. The point is to own your work, not do it all yourself. You can't. Here we talk about the realities, payoffs, challenges and above all...the responsibility to know and live your calling. To be inspired so you can inspire others. Join the revolution.

I got a note from a friend this morning informing me her husband has been going downhill with a drinking problem and she had to file a restraining order against him. She has hope but had to protect herself and her kids. The thing is, trouble always seems to find them. Why? I honestly believe […]
This is the pattern we’re seeing today: Kid gets out of high school with little understanding of their strengths, cares or true heart desires. (see “Would you let these guys choose your lifetime career?” Kid is ushered to the college line up to choose what they will devote the next four years of their life […]
Stop and think on this seriously for a moment…imagine a movie scene if you must. You are given notice you’ll be fired from your j-o-b in 60-days. And by some odd government mandate you are not allowed to be a W2 employee again. You may not work for any person or business, period. You either […]
Another installment of…a real free agent story. We often read the success stories that leap over the small ‘hows’ we want to know. And when we skip over the details, we really can’t relate. I believe you’ll hear much in Alan Jackson’s story you can relate to. Alan has been a friend for many years. […]
It’s slowly dawned on me that everyone advocating “Start your own business!” is missing the mark with the majority of the population. Imagine having a health club and advertising to everyone, “Come on in and wear embarrassingly revealing clothing that shows everything you’d rather hide, parade around in front of a room of complete strangers […]
Marta is a solopreneur…no employees and a full time free agent. She started out like most, went to college and picked a degree. Got out of college and got a job which had little to do with her degree, but paid her so she could start paying the college loan back. A few jobs later […]
Beware – “Jack of all trades, master of none” Would you like to know what a viable business idea would be for you to pursue? Here’s a huge key, “What are you a master of?” If the answer is ‘nothing’, don’t fret. Now you know what you need to go do next. Become a master, […]
I recently commented on a blog by Morgan Snyder, Senior Director, Strategy, Communication and Resources at Ransomed Heart Ministries, Monday Morning – How Not To Become a Statistic, April 21, 2013. In replying back to me, he recommended a book by Matthew Crawford, Shop Class as Soulcraft: An Inquiry into the Value of Work. The book […]
In this week’s show I discussed three differing, immediate goals people have for pursuing self-employment. I have a heart for finding one’s purpose and calling in their vocation. But not only can that be daunting…it’s often NOT the highest priority goal people have starting out. And I can relate. My first goal for self-employment is […]
On the show this week, we talked blogging, and the focus was to get real about it: Can you really make money from blogging alone? Is the blog just a tool for what you really get paid for? What makes a blog valuable to your market? How can you get exposure for your blog? With […]
Or at least give you the best chance at it. Many folks want to pursue self-employment but don’t have their spouse’s support. As much as I motivate folks to defy all obstacles to self-employment, I learned the hard way never to defy your spouse. My wife Teri and I are on the beach for a […]
Do you have an idea for a business? Or you’re already in business to some degree, but things aren’t where you’d like them to be? I’ve got a great resource for you in today. I am admittedly not…a planner. Making plans feels like being tied down, and I like spontaneity. Each day, I want to […]
Recently a friend and past Free Agent Academy member Jason Garey posted an audio on Facebook and tagged me. I try to at least check in on anything someone directs towards me, so I clicked the link and an audio immediately started playing. Seeing it was just over 4 minutes, I let it keep going. […]
During my many years of walking with people in the pursuit of self-employment, I’ve worked with a lot of single people. In the past week alone, I’ve had personal video-consultations with four singles (members of Free Agent Academy), three never married, one divorced. For this specific commentary, I’m not including single parents. Some of the […]
Just the statement and thought alone, is daunting and convicting, “This was his life’s work.” What will it be? What will I have to show for it? Will it be…anything? At the end, will I have achieved a LIFE’S WORK, or just a…life of work? Maybe I’m odd, but I look forward to being old […]
