Podcast: Felicia Slattery – Public Speaking | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: Unknown

For Felicia Slattery, public speaking became a part of her life at an early age. Whereas speaking in front of groups is frightening to most people, Felicia takes it to a new level with grace and ease. Now she works with business professionals to help them put together effective presentations in order to market their businesses. This includes presenting on webinars, creating powerful videos, and using storytelling to get your message out to the people who need most to hear it from you. Over the past ten years Felicia and I have crossed paths repeatedly at a variety of conferences and events, and I am honored to have shared the stage with her at several them. The photo above was taken at her new home near Knoxville, Tennessee. I had the pleasure of spending time with Felicia and her family while I was visiting friends there recently. During that time I was able to get to know Felicia even better and I have the greatest respect for what she brings to the table in both her life and her business. During this podcast interview (you may listen here on this page or over at iTunes) we discuss public speaking in a way you may not have heard from anyone else.  She feels that speaking is an opportunity to build relationships from the stage and carry them forward into the future. I shared my story of getting started as a speaker with Felicia, and she told me that what I had experienced was typical of someone who had not previously been a public speaker. I was comfortable speaking in front of students while I was a classroom teacher, but speaking to adults in a business setting was terrifying for me. Now that has changed, but it took several years for me to get there. Speaking falls into one of the three greatest fears for most folks, and Felicia says this is with good reason. Felicia is also a bestselling author of several books on topics around public speaking, and you can take a look at here titles to see which ones are a good fit for what you are working to accomplish in your own business. We also take a look at Felicia's "Speaker One Sheet Templates", a package I highly recommend. These are templates you open in PowerPoint or Keynote and simple copy and paste your photo and information into the areas she has designed. When I first had something like this created for me the cost was over ten times what she is charging, and you can create as many different styles, colors, and designs as you wish in order to let others know that you are a speaker, author, or corporate consultant. I know you will enjoy and benefit from my conversation with Felicia Slattery. Public speaking can open doors and provide you with opportunities you might otherwise miss, so please listen to this interview to learn more about incorporating it into your life and business.  Podcast: Dan Morris & Rachel Martin of Blogging Concentrated | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 30:22

Blogging Concentrated's Rachel Martin and Dan Morris On this podcast interview I had the opportunity to speak with the Blogging Concentrated founders Rachel Martin and Dan Morris. I've known Dan for more than five years, and finally met Rachel a couple of years ago when we were all speaking at an event in Toronto. They impressed me immediately with their knowledge of content creation as a means to connect with your target market, while also creating massive credibility and visibility for yourself and your business. They share how they got started, individually and as a team, what their events consist of, and their vision for the future of Blogging Concentrated. They host live events all over the world, and they are tailored to the needs of the people they are teaching and consulting with at each venue. This is what Dan Morris has to say about the conferences he and Rachel are hosting: My goal is to help bloggers perfect the little things that make a big difference. If the platform and infrastructure are right, we can really make headway. Every little thing we do should build upon itself, and if it doesn’t we should scrutinize why we’re doing it. You are no different than a Fortune 500 CEO and you belong at a conference with people who feel the same way. We pay bills, raise families, and buy homes with our revenue. Let’s help each other get smarter about it." And Rachel adds: I am passionate about the impact that bloggers can make in life, the ripple effect, whether it is a deal blog to a lifestyle blog to a diy blog – each of these platforms has a ripple that not only affects the blogger but also their readers’ lives." During this interview we are all at different locations. Dan was in his home city of Nashville, Tennessee, Rachel was on the lake in northern Minnesota, and I was near the beach in Santa Barbara, California. This is to show you that you may run a successful online business from anywhere in the world, as long as you have Internet access. Dan, Rachel, and I also discuss the possibility of their coming to Santa Barbara to work with some non-profit groups on their blogging, social media, and other parts of their marketing strategies and techniques. I know you will enjoy learning more about Dan and Rachel and what they are doing over at their site, Blogging Concentrated. Subscribe To All Interviews In My Podcast Series

 Podcast: Lynn Terry…Internet Marketing Pioneer | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 21:51

Lynn Terry, internet marketing pioneer, is my most recent guest for the podcast interview series. She is one of the original online marketers, having come on to the internet nineteen years ago! She was quite young at the time and wanted a way to create a business she could run from home or from wherever she happened to be. With two small children at home this business model proved perfect for her goal. I have been inspired by Lynn since first hearing about her when I came online in 2006, and today I am proud to call her a colleague and a friend. When she agreed to be my guest for this podcast I knew it would be an epic conversation. I believe that Lynn shared incredibly valuable advice and tips during this interview. She is sincere in wanting to help others, especially online entrepreneurs. She teaches how to be successful with a variety of models, including affiliate marketing, and was the first person to be dubbed a "super affiliate" by others in the industry. This truly resonated with me and I set out to learn as much as I could on the topic from Lynn early on in my own career. If you want to get clear about what online marketing is all about, and to hear sage advice and wisdom from someone who has seen it all, you will love this interview. Get ready to take some notes, especially when we discuss what has changed over these past nineteen years and what to focus on if you are just getting started in business. If you've been following me for any time at all you know that I love niche sites. Much of what I learned came from Lynn's Niche Success Blueprint training. I highly recommend that you go through this training and implement everything she is teaching you there. Knowing how to do this will impact your business in a powerful and lucrative way.  Podcast: Daniel Hall is Launching a Podcast | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 23:58

Daniel Hall on Launching a Podcast Daniel Hall is someone I've known and respected for almost a decade now. We became fast friends soon after I came online, and when he let me he was launching his own podcast series I jumped at the chance to help him make sure as many people as possible knew about it right away. He is one of the few people I've had as a guest on my show for a second time. Daniel has quite the interesting background. He went to school to become a nurse, received his license, and then went on almost immediately to law school. After practicing law in Texas for about seven years he found out about speaking on cruise ships. He began to do that, making him quite popular among family members because he could take them on luxury cruises at no cost while he was speaking. He then wrote an eBook on this topic, which has earned over a quarter of a million dollars and continues to sell. This experience launched him into publishing and online training, and he then decided to give up his law practice in 2004 in favor of coming online full time. After making a complete study of the podcasting revolution over the past couple of years, Daniel decided this was a medium worth entering. During our call he explains more about this and tells you where and how to find his new podcast. His goal was to create a podcast series people would want to listen to and learn from in order to achieve their own goals. He is focusing on the results listeners will receive from what he has to share. Daniel is breaking his podcast into "season" where he will explore a variety of topics through interviews with experts and by sharing his own experiences. It will be interactive, as you'll listen to an episode and then report on your results by visiting a separate web page intended for this purpose. You will enjoy this interview because Daniel Hall is someone you will want to know and connect with. We discuss the concepts shared in my recent book, entitled Book. Blog. Broadcast. The Trifecta of Entrepreneurial Success and Daniel gives his insights into this strategy. Be sure to join Daniel's Real Book Publishing course at absolutely no cost or obligation. It's a $297 value and I twisted his arm so that I could gift it to you today. Please let me know how you enjoy and benefit from this excellent program.  Podcast: Internet Marketer Brian G. Johnson | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 31:19

It was one of my goals to interview internet marketer and marketing strategist Brian G. Johnson during 2015, and it finally happened last week. He and I first met online several years ago through mutual relationships and finally in person in Atlanta at the NAMS conference. At the beginning of this podcast I told Brian I believe he and I are having more fun as online marketers, authors, and entrepreneurs than anyone else I can think of in this business. Brian is the author of the bestselling book Trust Funnel: Leverage Today's Online Currency to Grab Attention, Drive and Convert Traffic, and Live a Fabulous Wealthy Life, and I highly recommend you read it and implement what he is teaching there. We get into a deep discussion on this idea and concept of building trust in life and in business which I believe you will find fascinating as an entrepreneur. His thoughts on this topic are true bits of wisdom. What I didn't find out until later was that Brian and myself share something in common - we are both dyslexic and have both turned that into an asset in our lives. Perhaps we see things differently from most other people. Perhaps we empathize with others more than the average person and want to be helpful. Or perhaps it is simply a coincidence, along with the fact that we both love dogs. At any rate, Brian has been able to create a life and a lifestyle few can claim, and that's why I reached out to him in the first place. I resonate with Brian's primary goals and mission, which is to: Help others achieve their individual goals and personal dreams online Have fun! Make money I'm sure you can relate to this line of thinking as you build your own online business. Listen to this podcast, read Brian G. Johnson's book, and then take massive action to achieve your own goals and dreams. Learning from and emulating the success of others makes everything possible.  Podcast: Heather Bestel and the Happiness Garden | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 28:05

During this podcast I had the pleasure of speaking with Heather Bestel. Originally from Liverpool, home of the Beatles, Heather made the conscious decision to move with her husband, Peter and young daughter, Zoe two hundred miles away to South West Scotland to pursue the dream of downshifting, simplifying and reducing stress. The result was a positive one in that they changed their lives and Heather got her business off the ground as an online entrepreneur. Heather and I connected online way back in 2007, and she credits me with helping her to keep it simple, stay focused on her goals, and to avoid the bright, shiny objects that sabotage so many entrepreneurs. Her business and programs continue to grow and you can learn more about her "Happiness Garden" here. When she describes it in great detail during this podcast you will know that it is an inspired undertaking that is worth your closer inspection. I truly love the way Heather has chosen her life's path. She says that her life is quite wonderful, by design, and that she goes out of her way to keep it that way. It is a very simple life and she likes things simple, as I do. She has all she needs and is grateful. She makes sure to have balance and everyone around her is happy. Part of this includes having husband Peter working  closely with her as her tech guru and being able to travel with daughter Zoe as she pursues a career in music. None of this would be possible if they had chosen more traditional jobs and careers. I know you will enjoy this podcast interview as you get to know Heather Bestel. And consider joining her one year program in the Happiness Garden! Subscribe To All Interviews In My Podcast Series

Podcast: Adrienne Dupree – Leave the Corporate World Behind | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 27:32

Adrienne Dupree on "How to Leave the Corporate World Behind" Adrienne Dupree is someone you'll want to know and to learn from. She and I originally met at Armand Morin's live event in  Atlanta in the fall of 2010 and I was immediately drawn to her kindness, intelligence, and integrity. Eventually she joined my Mentor Program and is now quite successful in her own right. She is best known for "leaving the corporate world behind" at the end of 2015 in order to pursue her dream of entrepreneurship. With so many business models to choose from, Adrienne worked through some of these on her way to success. A bestselling author, you can find out more by reading her book, Leave the Corporate World Behind, where she and others share their experiences of leaving the corporate world behind in favor of entrepreneurship. This is a must read if you are thinking of making this jump in your own career. Adrienne has been extremely successful with selling on Amazon, and during this interview I ask her specific questions about this journey, as well as the step by step details of how someone can get started with retail arbitrage and wholesaling physical products to sell online. She is quite forthcoming with how she is doing it, something I greatly admire. Even though she was not an overnight success with this, her determination to succeed and perseverance in trying out what she learned to see which methods and strategies work best for her. This is the true measure of a leader, in my honest opinion. Tamara Monosoff is someone you'll want to know. She and I recently met at a live event in southern California and I knew that I had to interview her for my podcast series so that you could get to know more about her and how she is helping online entrepreneurs and authors. She has worked in Washington D.C. in the Clinton Administration where she served as Chief of Staff for the Office of Vocational and Adult Education at the U.S. Department of Education, Education Director for the President’s Commission on White House Fellowships, and Senior Communications Associate for the President’s Initiative on Race at the White House. When I asked her how she has been able to achieve so many goals she jokingly attributes some of it to getting no sleep. Her volunteering brought her closer to the people, dreams, and goals that she aspired to and brought her even more opportunities over time, eventually taking her to the White House. We discussed her journey to entrepreneurship after she left Washington, D.C. and had her first daughter. It came about as she investigated solutions to problems experienced by mothers everywhere. Women all over the country contacted her to find out how she could help them to get their own ideas into the mainstream by bringing their products to market. This led to her working closely with authors who were not seeing the results they wanted with their books. Over the past ten years she has tested everything she has learned about creating information products, authorship, and income generation in ways that others have not yet explored or discovered. This includes creating a powerful author platform to get your name and ideas out to the world, and Tamara has used these strategies to get to #1 on Amazon and to get the attention of the media.  Podcast: Green Marketing Expert Shel Horowitz | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 35:22

Shel Horowitz is someone I have admired for many years. I love how he introduces himself on his Wikipedia page..."an American author, international speaker, and marketing consultant. He has been an early and consistent popularizer of the idea that businesses can succeed by embracing principles of honesty, integrity, and environmental responsibility. More recently, he has been an active proponent of the role of business in turning hunger and poverty into sufficiency, war into peace, and catastrophic climate change into planetary balance while making a profit". I had the opportunity to speak with him as a part of my podcast series and I know you will learn much from the conversation that transpired. We discussed the importance of sustaining a green business, something most of us do not think about on a daily basis. I shared that I seldom use a printer in my online business, and Shel commented on how he is now getting away from printing as well. This began our discussion on topics of interest and concern to everyone on the planet. Shel's mother was a civil rights worker in New York during the 1960s, and he was born into an environment where activism and the idea that people can and should make a difference was both accepted and encouraged. His first unofficial activism came around the age of three out of a need for self-preservation. You must listen to the replay to hear all of the details. He began as a freelance writer and editor and this led to a business of writing for others. He now helps people think about their marketing strategically and consults with businesses on how they can make the world better while still making a profit. He and his wife, the novelist D. Dina Friedman live in a solarized farm house in Massachusetts that was built in 1743. I asked Shel how entrepreneurs can get involved and be more aware of keeping our planet healthy. He shared his thoughts on how we can all do simple things each day, such as batching your errands and choosing to ride a bicycle or walk once in awhile that will make a huge difference for decades to come. Shel has written a number of books and has a new one coming out soon. Visit his sites and check out his books that are available on Amazon here. And if you order a book directly from him, Shel will be happy to autograph it to you personally. Subscribe To My Podcast And Never Miss Another One!

 Podcast: Michel Fortin – Copywriter | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 28:04

I first met Michel Fortin, copywriter extraordinaire, in 2008 while I was attending my first live event. It was the Big Seminar in Atlanta, and Michel and his new wife, Sylvie, had just come down from the stage after presenting to a crowd of over two thousand people. Within a few days I had been invited to join a Mastermind with him and many others that had been put together by Armand Morin. Michel's input and help over the years definitely made a difference in my early success as an online entrepreneur. In 2010 I won an affiliate contest with Armand and Michel's help with my sales copy was part of the prize. During a twelve hour period in a hotel suite in Atlanta he and the others put my business under the spotlight and recommended changes that would ultimately get me on the track to success. Fast forward seven years and Michael continues to be a force in my life and in the world of copywriting. We connected in person again while both speaking at an event in Toronto, Canada, not far from where Michel lives in Ottowa. During this podcast interview he shares how he got started with writing sales copy for doctors and other professionals, what is most important in this process, and how newer online entrepreneurs can begin by writing their own copy. He also discusses how we are always able to better sell ourselves and our products through third party endorsements. Michel was in sales as a young man and had to learn how to get over the fear of rejection. He did overcome this fear by writing lead generating sales letters. The prospects would call him to set up an appointment, and at that time they were already pre-sold. That's when he connected with doctors who wanted him to write sales copy and advertisements for them to be able to sell their services. He dubbed himself the 'success doctor' and went on to write some of the most effective copy ever developed for this purpose. He credits this type of specialization with his early success and recommends narrowing your focus for best results. You will enjoy this podcast and get to know Michel much better. For some of the top books on the topic of writing sales copy for your information products check out these books. Find out more about what Michel is doing at Workaholics 4 Hire.  Podcast: Brian Basilico, Social Media Expert and Bestselling Author | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 27:13

Brian Basilico is an author, speaker, and social media expert. He lives in Aurora, Illinois, a town about thirty miles west of Chicago. His bestselling book, It's Not About You, It's About Bacon, describes and explains basic marketing principles and defines the 'know, like, and trust' factor into the equation. It also has a companion Workbook that is an innovative way to build credibility and visibility. The idea for the bacon theme came from a social media experiment he was involved in while speaking at a conference. You'll love this story and how it connects social media with relationship marketing in a fun and memorable way. We discuss the power of storytelling and how stories are interwoven into every aspect of life and business. He is a 'self-professed geek' and used to build elaborate toys for himself as a child. He worked as a video producer for AT & T, and has been involved in marketing since he was a teenager, and opened his current company about fifteen years ago. He now coaches people on how to use social media to build an online presence, as well as teaching a variety of other strategies to help people become successful. Brian shares some specific examples of how he helps people in this way, and we also discuss how he works with corporations to help them leverage the power of LinkedIn in their marketing. We agreed that working both with startups and small businesses, as well as within the corporate world allows us to stretch and expand our knowledge in a way that is beneficial to everyone involved. I knew of Brian online for more than a year before we met in person at the NAMS event in Atlanta (we'd love to connect with you there next time) where we were both speaking on our topics of expertise. This is a perfect example of how building relationships is crucial to success in life and in business. This all led to me being a guest on his show and he finally being a guest on mine. We are in alignment when it comes to acknowledging the value of having our own information products for sale, and Brian discusses some of what he has to offer in the areas of blogging and social media marketing. We then discuss the newer live stream applications and the power of video in our businesses. You will love this interview and I encourage you to share this with anyone who would benefit from these principles and strategies as they build an online business.  Podcast: Book Copy Editor Tanya Brockett | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 20:53

Tanya Brockett, copy editor and authorpreneur, was my guest for this episode of my podcast series. I initially met Tanya in Austin while presenting at Joe Vitale's live event on entrepreneurship and mindset. We spoke briefly, yet I felt a connection with her right away. It wasn't until she contacted me over a year later that I found out that she is a professional copy editor. She ended up attending my live event in Los Angeles earlier this year and being the most well-received of all of my speakers. Now we work closely together in a variety of ways. Tanya has operated an editorial services firm for more than ten years now. During this interview I asked her exactly what an editor is and why does an author need one when we have friends or writing critique groups who can read our work for us and tell us what they think. You may be surprised by her answer. She agreed that many authors believe that editing is just something you do quickly before you send your manuscript to the publisher or printer, but she doesn't agree. I can speak from personal experience when I tell you that having a professional editor look at your manuscript and recommend changes can make the difference between publishing a book you are proud of and one that will make readers cringe at every page turn. She shared some advice for finding and working with the right editor for your book, and the importance of working with someone who will help you to get your unique message out to the world. We all have a natural fear of someone changing our ideas, and Tanya understands that concept due to her years of working with authors in this capacity. We also discussed some common errors we tend to make in our writing. Tanya authored a book called The iPad, the Manifestation, and the Law of Attraction which we discuss as well here. It is in this writing that she share her seven step process for creating your best life now. She shares how this can apply to authors and entrepreneurs in every aspect of our lives. You'll want to grab a copy and go through the seven steps for yourself. She also shares her TAN-TAN (pronounced Tawn-Tawn) strategy and where that originated. Whether you have already written your book or are just in the planning stages, Tanya Brockett is someone you'll want to know. She's set up a special page for my community here.  Podcast: D’vorah Lansky on Podcasting for Beginners | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 24:48

Podcasting for Beginners I have known D'vorah Lansky since 2009 and have had the pleasure to work with her personally as she began her online business. She is now a marketing rock star and one of the few people I've had as a guest for my podcast series for the second time. D'vorah's true audience is authors and speakers, but she has proven herself to be versatile in her work with people from a variety of communities. She is now teaching podcasting for beginners and I knew I wanted to share this information with my audience and community. During this podcast interview D'vorah and I discuss the history of podcasting and the how and why of when we were both first attracted to this medium for getting our messages out to the world. Podcasting was highly technical and out of reach for most entrepreneurs in its infancy, but has now evolved into a fast and easy way to connect with your target audience on a regular basis. Beginning in 2016, many new cars will have a feature that allows you to search and listen to podcasts in your car the way you currently access AM and FM radio stations. This will bring you closer to millions of potential listeners who wish to learn about your topic while they are driving. I shared with her how I first began my podcast back in 2007 and quickly gave it up because I felt like I didn't have anything valuable to share with my listeners. She gives her insight on how best to narrow down your focus so that you will be able to teach on a topic that makes sense for you and your target audience. Recently D'vorah teamed with respected entrepreneur Doug Foresta to begin teaching podcasting to those who wish to use this as a marketing and content creation strategy for their businesses. We talk about how they decided to form their partnership for their trainings on podcasting and what made them realize this was a worthwhile venture.  Podcast: Author Shawn Hansen on Writing Children’s Books | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 30:15

Shawn Hansen is a published author, as well as a graphic artist (she has designed several of my book covers) and someone who now teaches others how to be successful writing and marketing books online. When I realized that I had not yet interviewed her for my podcast series I made it a priority to do so immediately. Shawn is definitely someone you'll want to know as you build your online business. Recently we were both presenters at the annual Earn 1K a Day seminar in Las Vegas, hosted by Dennis Becker. This year I became more excited about the possibility of finally writing the children's Shawn is a former college professor, and decided to leave that profession in order to write full time. She is currently collaborating with her father on a book she is writing and he will illustrate. She taught English, so we shifted the conversation to the topic of using proper grammar in your writing, as well as the role of an editor in your writing process. We then delve into the world of writing children's books, and briefly discuss her course on how to do this. Shawn strongly believes, as do I, that the world has changed to the point where the parents of young children are now more comfortable allowing their kids to read on a variety of devices, in addition to paperback and hard cover books. This opens up new opportunities for those of us publishing on Kindle and makes it possible to give children a great reading experience that is also meaningful. Shawn lays out the situation with traditional publishing, which in the case of children's books is typically done with in-house writers and illustrators by large publishing companies. She also talks about the Kindle Kid's books creator software, which she teaches in her course for proper formatting and alignment of illustrations. We also discuss the children's book I am writing currently, and how it came to be. I asked Shawn how the outlining and writing process may differ from what I do for all of my non-fiction books and she explained her perspective on this is a way that you will want to hear. She shares that she has written at least a thousand words a day since 2006, and I have done this for the past five years as well. We end our interview with a frank discussion of controversial topics and how they should be approached by authors as a way to expose children to a variety of stories and situations that will enhance and enrich their lives. Be sure to check out her training on writing Kindle books for kids if you would like to get started in this field.
