Screwballs, Shot Clocks & Seat Charts | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 44:22

In this episode you will find: How much (or how little) the new pitch clocks have affected the game at the Double-A & Triple-A levels. Bowling Green has a kid throwing a nasty screwball and who gets to choose what uniform the team wears? Here's what you'll get in this episode: The Astros need a shortstop with the injury to Jed Lowrie. For the moment they have not opted to bring up former #1 overall pick Carlos Correa to replace him. Correa is crushing the Double-A Texas League and some Houston fans (and us included) are calling for the immediate promotion. Josh Hamilton gets traded for a cash relief...or maybe a player to be named later. Thank you again to everyone that has provided feedback about the show.  Mclovin, Joba the Hut & Opening Day | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 37:29

In this episode you will find: A candid conversation regarding Jason Burch and what his MILB experience was like as a gay man. Opening Day rosters are here and Kris Bryant is backed by the MLBPA. Also, Sam actually makes a few good points. Here's what you'll get in this episode: Mike makes a trip down to Florida for Spring Training and reconvenes with former Curve players. The story of Jason Burch, a former MILB pitcher is covered after he publicly came out as a gay man following his career. Burch claimed that he wished he had gone public with his homosexuality during his playing days. It feels as though the game is closer to having an openly gay player in MLB/MILB. In a shocking turn of events the MLBPA stood up for Kris Bryant... and non union member. Could we see change on the horizon for the non-union MILB realm or is this just one instance. Recognizing that minor league players exists is a step in the right direction for MLBPA. Joba the Hut and John Fogerty also make an appearance. Baseball is back so make your plans to get out to an Opening Day, wherever you might be. Thank you again to everyone that has provided feedback about the show.  Long Balls, Logos & Lasting Images | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 38:34

In this episode you will find: New MILB logos along with new ownership groups taking over. Spring Training has begun and we take a stab at some early over/under preseason predictions. Here's what you'll get in this episode: The Frisco Rough Riders unveiled a new Teddy Roosevelt-themed logo (pictured) while the new NYPL franchise in Morgantown West Virginia opts for a more dressed down MILB look. We take a few guesses at how many home runs Joey Gallo will crush in the Minors this year along with some other fun prop guesses. Pawtuckett has a new, familiar ownership group and a pair of Midwest League broadcasters make the leap to the Major Leagues. Baseball is coming so make your plans to get out to an Opening Day, wherever you might be. Thank you again to everyone that has provided feedback about the show.  Fat Suits, Drug Suspensions & Some Top Prospects | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 38:03

In this episode you will find: A bit of conversation on some NSF supplements, a rash of MILB suspensions, mascots and the new top 100 prospect list from Baseball America. Here's what you'll get in this episode: Over the course of the off-season more than a handful of MILB players have been suspended for 50 games due to usage of "drugs of abuse" and other violations. The crew talks about the need for players to be hyper-alert about what they put in their bodies. For many of the younger players, many from other countries, the world of supplements can be a dangerous mine field to navigate. Additionally, it is interesting to see how these "seasonal" employees are subject to year-round drug testing and other restrictions. February would be an even more unbearable month if it were not for the release of the Baseball America prospect handbook. The MILB bible has hit the shelves and we take a quick peak at some of the haves and have nots. Jay and Mike are hoping that this will be they year they finally get to see Dylan Bundy pitch. Lets hope he is in that Bowie rotation. We wrap up with a little discussion on the best method to creating and being a mascot. How athletic is your favorite mascot friend and how many members of your office could pull off being inside the costume for a day.  A Van Named Shaggy | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 14:15

In this episode you will find: A little conversation on MILB and the new pitch clock, guitar picks and vagabonds. Here's what you'll get in this episode: Back at it with the first post of 2015. MLB dropped a hammer over last week to announcing that all Triple-A and Double-A clubs will have a "20 second pitch clock" for each game. That of course raises a slew of questions, concerns, comments and for some, ire. Perhaps some unintended consequenses of more regimented and timed inning breaks will be the focus on MILB teams in-between inning promotions. Those mascots might have to run the bases faster to get the game up to speed. Jesse from Lansing is back once again and is able to weigh in on the MILB story regarding Blue Jays pitcher Daniel Norris. The secret to being cool lies in the name of your van. In this instance, that name, is SHAGGY. Some intial promo talk bubbles up and with one month left till Spring Training, things don't seem as bleak as they once were in the dead of winter.  Pigs, Parties and Fireball | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 34:48

In this episode you will find: The denizens of MILB in full force, post Winter Meetings. MLR breaks down the Wil Myers deal, holiday parties and the live mascot feeding schedule. Hamburgers shaped like hot dogs and the San Diego chicken also make a guest appearance. Here's what you'll get in this episode: Here we go again, with a semblance of a schedule after the long layoff, MLR is back in full force. MLR tackles the Winter Meetings trade show, affiliate dinners and more. Also, with Tampa Bay and the Padres dominating the airwaves, we ask the question "If you could own an MLB team, which one would it be and why?" (Keep in mind San Diego has more breweries than any other city in the country). Mike may have taken a few fireball shots at the Winter Meetings and Sam needs to tell you about the rule 5 draft (he really does, its his thing). Junior Spivey is now a player agent and Cuba could be back in play after 60 years of political exile. Thank you again to everyone that has provided feedback about the show.  It’s About Time | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 38:18

It's been too long, so we put together a show, just in time for the Winter Meetings. Our apologies for the delay, life got in the way. Thanks to everyone for checking in on us over the past few months! Here's what you'll get in this episode: After a six month hiatus due to slacking, laziness and the real world getting in the way, the MLR report is back. You might notice a significant drop off in audio and production quality and that is due to the absence of our good buddy Nick, who is producing his Inside the Jungle podcast on a daily basis (whoot!). In this episode we introduce Jesse Goldberg-Strassler, longtime voice of the Lansing Lugnuts and accomplished author. MLR hopes to use his talents and diligence to record more than one show every six months. Also in this show (we are dubbing the MLR resurrection) we discuss new affiliations, new team names and season standouts. Winter meetings chit chat and of course some Rule 5 mixed in along the way. A special thanks to everyone who inquired as to our whereabouts the last few months. We know you all missed the hard-hitting questions such as "what team name do you like better, the Tortugas or the Shuckers" this week. Going to a Minor League ballpark this week? Did you take in a Minor League Baseball game on the 4th? Don't forget to send us your pics on Instagram! Here's what you'll get in this episode: The crew discusses the all-american ritual of baseball, fireworks and the 4th of July. Minor League Baseball is buzzing with sold out crowds for Independence Day and some teams represent the only community gathering place to celebrate. Oakland and Chicago have pulled off the biggest trade of the year with the Cubs stockpiling the greatest Minor League system known to man. Tell us what you think of the deal at feedback@mlrpodcast.com. Mike continues to reveal what it is like to prepare to host the Eastern League All-Star Game and Sam chimes in on what might be able to help an ailing Texas team. Mike gives his eyewitness play-by play of the most recent melee in Minor League Baseball between Altoona and New Hampshire. Also, as we approach the half way mark of the season, teams have started to shuffle players to the next level while other organizations stand pat. Minor League Baseball All-Star games are abound and the guys discuss what kind of hard work is required for the front office staff's that host these events. Are you making plans to attend one near you? Here's what you'll get in this episode: Unfortunately, more Tommy John surgeries have crept into Minor League Baseball and the guys discuss what it looks like when a guy throws that last pitch that leads to the devastating injury. Some are in more obvious pain than others. A heavy dose of Kris Bryant, Joey Gallo and Mookie Betts and the crew is joined by Baseball America's Josh Norris en route to the California-Carolina League All-Star Game.  The Minor League Report Episode 72 – Getting Drafty in Here! | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 38:13

The guys managed to cover a lot of ground this week, from the MLB Draft, Jonathan Singleton and his monumental contract. We went all pop culture on you this week. From Top Gun, Dumb and Dumber, and of course Star Wars, you will have to listen in to find out how Mike managed to tie all those pop-culture references into one episode! What's been the biggest story so far in Minor League Baseball this year? Let us know your thoughts! Here's what you'll get in this episode: Jay, Mike and Sam discuss the Astros making Jonathan Singleton the first player to be offered a Major League contract extension before his big league debut, and debate whether or not the Astros will come out on top in the end. With Sam's season about to begin with the Tri-City ValleyCats, his attention, as well as the rest of the baseball world, was turned to this weekend's MLB Draft. However, the debate once again turns to whether anyone from OUTSIDE the baseball world actually cared. As usual, the guys' nominations for the "Get Outta Town" segment drew some interesting discussion, including Mike's plea for the Indians to promote a couple of their players before the RubberDucks make their way back to Altoona.  The Minor League Report Episode 71 – Who Charted? | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 42:52

Another week of Minor League Baseball saw the call up of one of the biggest prospect names in the game. St. Louis's Oscar Taveras made the show and promptly made his impact felt homering as his first hit in the Majors. Will he have a huge impact on the game, the Cardinals and the National League? Time will only tell. It's crazy to think we're almost halfway through the Minor League season already. Those first two months sure did fly. Well, maybe not for our guys on The Minor League Report. Sam's season hasn't even started! Here's what you'll get in this episode: The Cardinals promoted Oscar Taveras to the bigs and Andrew Buchbinder weighs in for Cardinal Nation. Will Taveras have the instant success that other prospect phenoms have had? We discuss how the hype may be good for Minor League Baseball. Also, how would you like to record, uncatalogued and chart every pitch of each game throughout 142 contests? We dive into the charting world of Minor League Baseball and what starting pitchers do on their days off. What happens when you order 2,000 Starling Marte oven mitts months in advance only to have them get stuck while in shipping from China? The result? A pot holder "place holder" and no Mike Passanisi on this week's show. Three more Get Out of Town candidates are mixed in along with Sam's thoughts on his upcoming season in the New York Penn League. How and when will those short season rosters be constructed? We try to figure that out, it's not that simple. Going to a Minor League ballpark this week? Don't forget to send us your pics to our Instagram account @mlrpodcast and hashtag them with #mlrpodcast and we'll be sure to include them in our podcast posts.  The Minor League Report Episode 70 – Hammerin Hessman and Probable Starters | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 46:41

It's Memorial Day Weekend here in the US so hopefully you'll be stopping by your local park to take in some Minor League Baseball action! Friends of the show, The Ivy Envy Podcast, had a fun meetup this Saturday at the Iowa Cubs game where they got to see one of the most stacked rosters in all of Minor League Baseball take the field. But, after all it is Memorial Day. So most importantly we say thank you to the men and women who bravely sacrifice and serve our country to allow us to watch the game we love. Here's what you'll get in this episode: The show is at full strength this week as we celebrate the Memorial Day weekend at the park. Toledo Mudhens slugger Mike Hessman hit his 400th Minor League home run as the industry pays homage to an impressive and somewhat frustrating feat. We challenge Sam to uncover what active player has the second most Minor League homers next to Hessman. Jay and Mike discuss the probable starters for their series that kicks off in Richmond this week. Jay's happy to let Mike borrow his 1998 Volvo so that he can get around to the hoppin joints of Richmond. The crew also takes a look back at the blockbuster Blue Jays & Marlins deal that went down in the 2012 offseason. As always, we fill you in on who should "Get Outta Town" and wouldn't you know, Sam was spot on last week with Pat Venditte who received his call up to Scranton recently. The Minor League Report gets a new addition with a new Instagram account. Send us your pics @mlrpodcast and hashtag them with #mlrpodcast and we'll be sure to include them in our podcast posts.  The Minor League Report Episode 69 – Game Times and Historic Stadiums | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 41:39

It's pretty cool to see that Minor League Baseball will be coming to a television set near you. The CBS Sports Network has announced that they will be airing a Minor League Baseball Game of the Week on their network and it sounds like they'll be get to as many levels as they can. Now it will be easier to see some of the brightest stars from around Minor League Baseball from the comfort of your own couch! We discuss the potential and impending move of the Sand Gnats franchise and the shifting landscape of the South Atlantic League. Sam is fired up about the New York Penn League season getting closer and we miss Andrew Buchbinder due to an early morning game. Gotta love those education day games. Minor League Baseball has a new contest in Cap Madness and we chime in on some of the best minor league lids. Let us know what you think and why at feedback@mlrpodcast.com.
