Edge of Fangorn   Community Mail from Jimel: TC where you need a large group to enter and it has a huge number of elites with a nearly instant respawn rate.  I see people spamming for hours trying to get a group for that area with no success.  Seems once people have been in there they don't want to come back. If this is already becoming a hated area that no one wants to do in just a few weeks, there isn't much hope for those slower to level. Fishing quests are like hemorrhoids too. The dailies for the gold coins are very hard for light armor classes. There needs to be a npc to trade tokens for the ones you need.  I have over 100 Dol Amroth  90 library and 75 armory.  I still need rep for the bank and docks. Listen to your podcasts while walking my dog and enjoy you show very much.  Great work!   Letter from Kevin 7.0 Well, after the horrible bug that denied me my full platinum Deeping Wall raid, I was hesitant to give it another shot. But I was doing the Dol Amroth dailies when I saw a group for the raid being advertised in World Chat. Seeing that I would not be leading it, I was fine joining and just taking a back seat roll. But as soon as the raid was full, the leader expressed that he did not know it very well, and wished to transfer leadership to someone more familiar with it. Still not wanting to take leadership, I remained quiet. But a member of my kinship was also in the raid, and nominated me, and leadership was passed to me. I've attached two screenshots of the results of the raid. It was an amazing success! 3 first age symbols dropped, and two pieces of gold jewelry (one to me!) I now feel like I can relax the amount of HD instances I run. Since they were released, I've been only running them when it comes to instances. I've earned a platinum medal on almost everything, and now that I've gotten the raid, I really don't feel the need to run them nearly as much. Revenge is so, so sweet. And what are your thoughts on the music of Gondor? I am very pleased with it. It may even take the cake as my favorite of the entire game. I enjoy crafting in Dol Amroth just to hear the city music. Do you ever watch any of the other streamers personally? He sometimes watches MMO Reporter and LotRO Reporter. There are some guys who stream Infinite Crisis and he watches them sometimes. He is horrible at MOBAs, but he thinks that people who are really good at them are really amazing to watch, especially when you’re bad and you see someone who’s so good. They are two different items and cannot be stacked together. For the key that is bound to the character, the name and description for the key has been updated so that players can now see the two keys are different items. Soon has arrived.   Skirmishes The cost of all rewards and skirmish traits have been lowered between 20%-50%. Generally. The highest level rewards and traits have seen the greatest cost reduction Hobnanigans Prices for Red Chicken, Dorking Chicken, Scrapper Chicken, Black Chicken, and Blue Chicken cosmetic pets, housing items, and cosmetic items have been changed. The rare, colour-specific tokens alone can be used to barter for a corresponding item. Additionally, these items are also available for barter for a significant amount of the basic Hobnanigans Token. I really must hand it to the designers. Dol Amroth is insanely beautiful. Enough with the chit-chat. I want to lay upon you my worst nightmare: The Deeping Wall was busy with activity, as 12 of Windfola's finest warriors defended against hordes of Saruman's forces. The Eastern tower had already been saved with perfection, but now the culvert below was under attack! Wave after wave of orcs poured through the opening, but each wave was repelled. Even two elite trolls came through, but were quickly felled by our soldiers. 17 rocks were placed by the workers, only 1 to go, and another task completed perfectly! What's this? Too many rocks placed?? Oh, the humanity! A failure in our midst! To say it plainly, I would've ran a full Platinum run of the Deeping Wall raid, but Securing the Culvert bugged out on us. 19/18 rocks were placed, which caused the sidequest to never complete. The other two were platinum completions, and we lost no soldiers at all. I'd never been so upset with this game as I was that moment. On another note, with the news that we will be able to level up our legendary items with us now, I've heard that many people feel that the current LI system is "broken". Since I have never played any other MMO other than LOTRO, or any game even similar to it, how exactly is it broken? Any thoughts? I think it's fine, but then again, I have no clue if it's good, bad, or any reference to judge it against. Which he thinks is huge. They’re going to take that energy and reinvest it in updating and – daresay – fixing the LI system. Sapience – Asks Rowan what he means by fixing and updating. Rowan – What they found when they were looking at the level cap is that a lot of players were saying they’d love a level cap raise, but they don’t want to do it with LI as it is right now. So what they’re going to do instead is focus on fixing that pain point of “I have this item, I put all this time and energy into it, and when I come to the next level cap I want to build the exact same item and I have to destroy my old one, put all the pieces together and build a new one.” Instead they’re going to say that if we love our items so much and we want to lock in its abilities, we can imbue the item, lock it in and then it will just start to earn experience and level up, and each of the attributes, each of the legacies will level up and develop as well. So they’re going to change that system at cap, which is 100 right now. Sapience – So basically that’s going to become an advancement and progression method in and of itself. Rowan – It will be an advancement method all in itself, and it will give them opportunities later to do new things with it, like introduce new legacies that are only available to imbued items. Introduce new content or aspects of content where we can go back and use these imbued items and gain new abilities or new effects for them – advance them – by completing content. Really change up the game dramatically in terms of what we can do so that when we’re at cap we’re still advancing, we’re still developing a character but we’re doing it in different directions and in different ways.   Could we decide on making our Beorning level 50 or level 1? Rowan – Says their answer around Beornings is, they found for a number of reasons – including player feedback on the leveling experience and how much we enjoy the earlier Eriador zones – but also simply watching MadeOfLions trying to find reasons that Gandalf would accept us, that Frodo would want to talk to us, that all of these characters would want to interact with us when we are a level 50 Beorning who’d never talked to any of them before, that was painful. So they decided not to put MadeOfLions through that process of pain, and instead let us start at level one. We still can buy a Gift of the Valar and attach that to our Beorning and jump right to 50 and get going further if we want to, in fact they’ll probably offer a bundle around that to make it easier for us. But this gives us the choice. Sapience – Actually now that’s kind of true of any class. Rowan – Sure. Sapience – If players want they can roll up a warden and start at level 50 right outside Moria, or a hunter – it doesn’t have to be one of the ‘additional’ classes.   Group Content Why is there no new group content with U14? Sapience and Rowan – But there is. Rowan – There is an entirely new area, and all the feedback he’s been getting about that is that the quests are actually challenging, and for the most part require a balanced group. He recommends we gird up our grouping skills and make sure we have a healer and a tank and have a good time. Sapience – There are lots of questions about group content. Rowan – Says he’s not going to try to sidestep the base question that comes up, which is, “When are we getting new small group, large group content, when are we getting new raids, etc.?

I started on Elendilmir, and I have my largest clan of alts there, with several 95s.  It seemed that people had just about stopped playing on that server and I was very sad.  I even tried ESO, but it seemed rather a heartless game compared to LOTRO. Happily, several of my friends from Elendilmir have found new enthusiasm by either transferring characters or rolling up new ones on Brandywine.  Since I'm an altaholic, with little clans on Elendilmir, Landroval, Crickhollow and Brandywine, I was set and I'm happily leveling again.  We do skraid and skirm, but my first love is leveling.  I really like the idea of smaller, more frequent updates with new levels to earn, and new places to see.  Like many, I'm not a fan of Epic Battles. Sapience - He doesn't have the exact date in front of him. The concern is that it will be the last week in July and first week in August and he has a bad feeling that will make people unhappy. It will be after Update 14, that much he does know. He thinks last week of July and first week of August will at least encompass part of the festival. HoarseDev - Soon, once u14 is out the door. Some more information on swan pets. HoarseDev asked DEViled_Egg about the changes [Erika Ng, System Designer - Moochi]. According to them, new animations have been hooked up for the swan pets. They now waddle when walking and run whilst flapping if you run. Bare-chested dwarf on next run? No, he likes his Hauberk of the Mithril Guard. It is one of the old promo items he's trying to get new codes for, to make them possible to award again, through twitch, twitter, Facebook, and ExtraLife. Cloak of the Dark Halls and Cloak of the Raven Friend are a couple he already has in the works. Steed of the First Marshall he has request in for. Not in the next couple of weeks, anyway, because they have at least one, maybe 2 more Bullroarer builds coming before then. Question about why all the devs don’t chime in on threads for content/items they are working on Because they aren’t required to. The only person who is required to interact with us as part of their job is Sapience. Devs are required to work on the game, and that’s it. Participation in the forums is not a job requirement for them. Devs do read the forums, and they often will respond, but they have no obligation to do so. Quite often they do so by taking time out of their personal time at lunch, after hours or during a break, so we should try not to be too hard on them when they post things we don’t like. Have you ever talked about making cosmetic weapons or shields Yes, they have. And then they start looking at the technical issues, the costs, the difficulty and all of the challenges and they stop talking about it very very quickly. How do devs do all their research to make a new zone It’s not as complicated as we might think. They have people who are very well versed in the lore. They pretty much go off of the descriptions in the books as best they possibly can. They have members of the team who are going to Mythcon this year, a symposium for mythology fantasy writers at a local university, and they’re hosting a panel on taking the lore and world of Middle Earth and converting it into a game. So if you happen to be in the area… Someone mentions that Eldar is planning an event for later in the fall He reminds everyone that if we’re hosting an event, if we PM him with enough notice, he can often get us title codes, Turbine point codes for prizing, etc. He can’t always guarantee custom titles, especially for newer events or small events, but he can get the Celebratory or the Sociable. The /cpet command was put in solely as a temporary measure so that players would have the ability to rename their pets while a proper UI is being worked on. There are a lot of plans for cosmetic pets. It’s pretty cool and very interesting and he thinks we will like it a lot. Question about Osgiliath being considered for a PvMP zone He cautions that they consider a LOT of things. Do not ever mistake that for “We promise it’s coming.” They are being honest when they say they’ve discussed it, but what comes of it remains to be seen. It’s possible nothing will come of it. The bugfixes won’t be coming until U14, but we can still play the game and have some fun with it. Rowan – He introduces himself, says that he’s working on disrupting the things HoarseDev is working on, and adding new things (laughs). Says right now it’s all about U14 and getting the new spaces put together. Working on some limited but cool group content – small fellowship content that can go onto the landscape, and new attention and thought around U14 toward the end of the year. Questions in the chat about slotted gear HoarseDev – It’s been done before in other games, and for LotRO it’s a pretty big step in terms of letting players customize their own armour. It’s not going to be nearly as crazy or involved or grindy as legendary items, but it will allow us to choose, on certain pieces of armour, exactly which stats we want. So for example if we wanted more crit rating but we didn’t really care about vitality (he thinks that’s probably a bad example), we could just choose to slot what they’re calling essences – which are just the pure stats into the gear as we want to. There will be some tie-in to crafting, though not completely – there will be certain things that we can craft with the system, across all the professions, but they’ll also be dropping all sorts of nuggets of this system into skirmishes, into end game content, into big battles, even into festivals – little one-off things. We might be able to find something in the Treasure hunt, even just landscape kills. Question about how many updates we are getting this year Rowan – In terms of major new regions, they have U14 and U15. Both of those are in Gondor. And they’re also going to do an interlude between the two that is going to take us into the Dead Marshes. He got to see Paths of the Dead, and a run through of Belfalas and up to the gates of Dol Amroth. He thinks it’s the most beautiful region they’ve done to date. He has that backed up by the Art Director. It’s the most beautiful region he’s seen. He felt like he was in Greece. Rowan – Belfalas is the most beautiful region they’ve seen yet. You can see Dol Amroth in the distance and the region really comes alive.   When do we get U14 Rowan – Summertime. We’re a couple of months out.   What else, other than the new region, can we look forward to in U14 Sapience – Without spilling too many beans. Rowan – He has such a broad view of everything they’re working on that he has to think a bit to separate them out. Beorning work is coming along well. That’s not a U14 thing, that’s a later in the year thing. They’re doing a lot of work around cosmetic pets. There will be a new item system coming with U14 – a new way for us to build out and customize the items we want.   Could you share the size of Belfalas compared to other regions Rowan – Belfalas is only one of three areas in this update. And Paths of the Dead is pretty sizeable as well. Sapience – So these are not little bite-sized pieces. Rowan – What we saw in Fangorn recently is what they refer to as a mini-region. It was intended to be a very small place for a single piece of content and to illustrate some of the epic story. These will be more substantial. They’ve got the entire city of Dol Amroth. It’s rather large, actually. Sapience – Can you say if they are going to all be connected or if there are going to be ports? Rowan – It’s all contiguous landscape. You have to cross through the Paths of the Dead to get there. Sapience – So it’s not easy to get to. Rowan – No. And not all the oathbreakers have chosen to follow Aaragorn. Sapience – That sounds like it could be problematic for us as players.   Can you show us some of the concept art from the upcoming update Sapience – Says they’re too far out yet to be ready to share anything. Rowan – He’s talking to the Middle Earth people later this week, so they’re not quite there yet. Sapience – To clarify, by “Middle Earth” people, they’re referring to their licensor. The things players are asking for right now, they need to show to them first. A lot of people don’t realize, they come up with these great ideas and then they have to go to the licensor and say “we think these are great ideas.” And 99% of the time they say, “we think so too.” But they still have to go through the process.
