 DC 114 – Hello Ravnica, Goodbye Mirrodin | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 33:17

Slightly later than originally scheduled due to the fact that the cure for the common cold hasn’t yet been invented, DC 114 is online! This week, I recap the pre-release for Return to Ravnica, including impressions I got while watching other people play on the Saturday, and my own impressions when I managed to play after that. Following that, I keep with DC tradition and go over 10 cards from Scars of Mirrodin block, which recently departed Standard. As always, pleas email show@deckconstruct.com with any feedback, and don’t forget to stop by the DC forums. You’ll also find DC on the socials at Twitter, Facebook, and YouTube and Twitch.  DC 113 – Before The Pre-release | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 20:29

This upcoming weekend is Return to Ravnica pre-release weekend! In light of this monumental MTG event (or not, depending on how much you’re looking forward to the set), this week’s show is about pre-releasing. I go over some tips on how to make your pre-release experience as smooth as possible, based on the experience of several pre-releases where things didn’t go smoothly all the time! The email doors are always open at show@deckconstruct.com, and the social wires are still buzzing at Twitter, Facebook, and YouTube and Twitch.  DC 112 – Spoiling The Return | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 40:35

Welcome to DeckConstruct Series 10! It’s good to be back, talking about all things MTG. This week’s cast kicks off with a few words about series 10 and a change or two I’ve made, mainly focusing on how often the cast comes out. I also go over what’ll be in the next few episodes. After that, it’s time to dive into Return to Ravnica spoilers! The set is shaping up to be one of the classics. I go over some cards that you should probably hang on to after your pre-release. Think of it as “Spoilers for Busy People” but with less kanji. As always, please feel free to send email to show@deckconstruct.com, and please join me on the social wires at Twitter, Facebook, and YouTube. Also, although there isn’t anything there yet, you might want to subscribe to DC’s Twitch channel, as I’ll be streaming there in the near future. Thanks for listening, and please don’t mind the slight background hum in this week’s show. It’ll disappear by the next show. Also, don’t forget that show 113 is out on September 23, not September 21! - DC City Guides Music Credits Intro: Komodo Sound – Clouds Series 10 Overview: Patterns in Plastic – Sleepyhead RTR Spoilers: n0x – untitle me Outro: Yinyues – Autumn The DeckConstruct podcast is produced under a Creative Commons Attribution-No Derivative Noncommercial licence.  DC 111 – That’s All | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 38:57

It only took nine months, almost to the day, but DC 111 is finally out! The British might be used to waiting and queueing, but that’s a bit excessive! In this episode, the last of a short series 9, I talk about the last nine months of Magic, life and everything. Included are some extremely short set recaps, some Legacy decks and some wargaming! If you’d like to get in touch via email, the old address is still the same: show@deckconstruct.com. The spam has been cleared out (oh my gosh was there a lot of it!), and the offers of money from far-off countries have been deleted. DC is also still on the socials at at Twitter, Facebook, and YouTube. Flickr is more of a “Why?” than a “Why not?” these days. Thanks for listening, and thanks for staying subscribed if you have. If all goes well, Series 10 — and DC’s 5th birthday celebrations — will start in the autumn. Watch the website and Twitter for updates on that! - DC, Looking At You, You Looking At Me Music Credits Intro: Galdson – Life is good Zendikar cards: Pau Viguer Trío – 37,5 KMS More Zendikar cards: Stefano Mocini – Rebirth Outro: Dave Imbernön – Nothing The DeckConstruct podcast is produced under a Creative Commons Attribution-No Derivative Noncommercial licence.  DC 110 – Looking Back | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 42:16

Finally, after a delay that would make a London bus driver envious, DC 110 is online! Apologies for the delay. This edition of the cast focuses on Zendikar block cards, looking back on some of my favourites from the block. You won’t find Jace 2.0 or Stoneforge Mystic in this selection, just a bunch of cards I found interesting from a fun or design (or both) perspective. As always please get in touch via show@deckconstruct.com, and check out the DC Forums, too. DC is also snoozing on the socials at Twitter, Facebook, YouTube and Flickr.  DC 109 – So I Throw My Cards On Your Table | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 26:33

It’s unusually warm in London right now, and somewhere in the heat haze (yes, in October!) you’ll find DC 109. It’s a bit late because, well, “they” haven’t invented a way to add hours to the day! To kick off the cast, I talk about the Innistrad pre-release over in Richmond, Surrey. It was the usual chilled affair that is the hallmark of a good Richmond pre-release. I also discuss my impressions of the set, including Dual-Faced Cards (or DFCs to their friends). After that is the first listener question of the series! It was sent over by Viki Rosen, a familiar name around here. As always, please do get in touch at show@deckconstruct.com, and swing by the DC Forums, too. You’ll also find DC on the socials at Twitter, Facebook, YouTube and Flickr.  DC 108 – Time To Understand The Monster | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 50:36

It’s now Autumn, the nights are getting longer, and undead everywhere are already making plans for October 31. But, away from zombie social functions, show 108 is now online! Also, it's DeckConstruct's 4th birthday, so happy birthday podcast! This week, I take a look at Innistrad, the next big set that comes out later this month. I go through each colour, picking out cards that seem interesting or fun from a gaming or design perspective. After that is a discussion of the recent Banned and Restricted List announcement. As always, you’re more than welcome to shout at me at show@deckconstruct.com, or sway over to the DC Forums for a public natter about Magic. You’ll also find DC hanging around, like a gargoyle that forgot which building it’s meant to be posing on, at Twitter, Facebook, YouTube and Flickr.  DC 107 – Land Of Confusion | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 32:56

Slightly later than originally planned, but still earlier than a morning Underground train in London, show 107 is now up! This week I talk about lands and manabases, and what to think about when making one. To kick things off, I start with Limited and share a technique that might help you out when you’re staring at 25-odd cards and wondering how to make the mana fit. After that is a look at Constructed manabases, with examples of decks that have unusual land counts, and why that is. I also quickly touch on why fetchlands are a better first buy than dual lands. As always, please feel free to send an instant electronic telegraphical note at show@deckconstruct.com, and don’t forgot to check out the DC Forums, too.  DC 106 – We Still Kill The Old Way | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 58:23

It’s September, and that means it’s time for a brand new series of DC to hit the signalwebs! Welcome back! This week's show creeps dangerously close to the hour mark, and starts with the usual look at what went on during the podcast’s absence; quite a few things, as it turns out! Following that is a look at Pro Tour Philadephia, the first ever Modern format Pro Tour. Many combo cards were banned prior to the PT, but was that enough to stop combo? Survey says “Nuh uh”. I take a look at the meta and the decks that took enough turns to make it to the Top 8. As always, you’re welcome to get in touch via email at show@deckconstruct.com, and why not stop by for a natter at the DC Forums? You’ll also find DC mostly horizontal on the social sofas of Twitter, Facebook, YouTube and Flickr.  DC 105 – A Long Hot Summer | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 39:59

It’s Friday once again, and DC 105, the last show of series 8, is online! This week, the show is all about red. In the post-banning Standard starting on July 1, a lot more decks will become viable in the format. I think red in particular will be a driving force in Standard. So today I look at aggro, control and combo shades of red, and discuss cards and decks that may see play before Standard rotates on September 30. As always your email is much appreciated at show@deckconstruct.com, and don’t forget to visit the DC forums for much discussion about Magic. Also, DC will still be on the socials over the summer at Twitter, Facebook, YouTube and Flickr. Thanks for listening, and thanks for subscribing if you do!  DC 104 – Making An MTG Podcast Part 3 | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 28:43

It’s Wednesday, and the 2nd of the three shows that are coming out this week is the 3rd part of Making An MTG Podcast. In this episode, I talk about getting it all together and actually starting out on the podcasting road. Knowing about software, hardware and technques is fine, but how do you actually start? I also go over things like getting a website and audio file hosting, both of which can be done for free! As always if you have any comments, suggestions or just want to let me know about your new podcast, please shoot an email to show@deckconstruct.com. Also, crash over to the DC Forums for Magic-related chat and another place where you can tell everyone about your podcast! You’ll also find DC playing in the social stadium at Twitter, Facebook, YouTube and Flickr, and don’t forget to send in your audio question, comment or shoutout to audio@deckconstruct.com via Vocaroo.com or WeTransfer.  DC 103 – Breathe In The Air | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 30:43

DC 103 – Breathe In The Air By Alex Filed under: Shows Date: June 21st, 2011 Podcast: Download (21.9MB) It’s Monday, not Friday and DC 103 is out! I decided to delay this show to Monday because of a little announcement that was coming down the pipe. Also, apologies if this show sounds like it was put through a guitar amp with overdrive flicked on, I had a few technical hitches in getting this show recorded. The latest Banned and Restricted Announcement was made today, and all eyes were on DailyMTG.com to see what, if anything, would be banned in Standard. In the end, there were indeed bannings and in this show I talk about those bannings and what they mean for Standard. After that it’s time for another listener question. Noah in St. Louis, MO, has a question about playing competitive Magic nearby, and I do my best to answer. As always you can send your comments, suggestions and so on to show@deckconstruct.com, the DC Forums are open in the usual place, and you can send your voice to audio@deckconstruct.com via Vocaroo.com or WeTransfer (please check how it sounds before sending, though!).  DC 102 – A Day Of Metal And Poison | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 39:44

Friends, minions, and combo players, it’s time for another episode of DC to hit the netwaves! This one is out on a Monday because I wanted to talk about something that happened on Saturday. To kick things off, I talk about the New Phyrexia game day which took place on Saturday, June 11th 2011 (and on June 12 for some people). I played a rogue deck that didn’t do too badly, in a Standard field with a surprising lack of CawBlade, or any netdeck, really. After that is a look at some emails you guys sent in about how you got into Magic. Everyone gets into the game in a different way, so this is a selection of those different ways! As always I’d love to hear from you at show@deckconstruct.com, and don’t forget to check out the DC Forums for friendly Magic banter.  DC 101 – Overextension Attention | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 40:12

The Friday sun bears down again, and DC 101 is ready to go! This week’s show focuses on the first ever Tuesday Night Overextended, which happened on Magic Online this past Tuesday, May 31 2011. The event had a great turnout to kick off Overextended on MTGO, and some great decks emerged in a wide-open field. I discuss some of the decks in the top 16, including how they play and the cards they run. It was a fun night of MTG and well worth logging on for as TNO will be a regular Tuesday night event! As usual your comments, suggestions and suggestions for the ideal ice cream sauce are welcome at show@deckconstruct.com, and stop by the DC Forums for a natter about MTG. DC is also on the social sidewalks they call Twitter, Facebook, YouTube and Flickr, and why not record a question or shoutout and send it to audio@deckconstruct.com via Vocaroo.com or WeTransfer? Thanks for listening! - DC Starting Something Music Credits Intro: Jonathan Araldi – Sunrise (Funky Mix) Overextended part 1: 2Inventions – Adelaide (Silencegroove Remix) Overextended part 2: Nique – Purple Ocean Outro: Darth Phader – Supermulticorehyperbreakbeatdisco The DeckConstruct podcast is produced under a Creative Commons Attribution-No Derivative Noncommercial licence.  DC 100 – Begin Again From The Beginning | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 49:36

It took 3 years, 8 months and 1 week, but DC has finally reached the 100th episode! Huzzah! Drinks all round! There were many things I could’ve done for the big one-zero-zero, but in the end I decided to keep it simple and focus on two things: new and returning players, and new formats. The first part of the show is about advice I would give to a new player who is just taking their first steps into the wide world of MTG. I offer some bits of advice that you might not necessarily hear from your local store, things that you generally pick up from experience. After that is a look at Modern and Overextended, two new Eternal formats (well, I hope Modern is an Eternal format!) that may one day replace Extended. I talk about what each format is made up of and their banned lists, as well as how I feel about each one. As always, your email is much appreciated at show@deckconstruct.com (or hit the Contact link in the main menu), and why not stop b the DC Forums for some MTG-related public chat, too? DC is also still on the socials at Twitter, Facebook, YouTube and Flickr. Don’t forget you can get you on the show by sending your voice to audio@deckconstruct.com via Vocaroo.com or WeTransfer.
